*BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1991) is BETTER than you REMEMBER! | (reaction/commentary/review) 

I’ll take this Belle over any of Disney’s more recent “adorkable” female characters. I wish Disney would get back to writing these kinds of more mature and sophisticated heroines.

About Gaston eating 5 dozen eggs, remember in the beginning song when that lady asked for six eggs and one guy responded “That’s too expensive!”? That means that Gaston most likely single-handedly inflated the price of eggs in this village.

I did a painting of Belle on a canvas using acrylics a couple of years ago. I then had the honor of meeting Paige O'Hara, (who is the voice of Belle in this movie), and had her autograph the painting. Apparently, she is also an artist in the Disney animation dept, and she absolutely loved my painting. Telling me how talented I was, and told me if I ever submitted a resume to work there, thar I could put her down as a reference! 😲 One of the greatest compliments I've ever received! 🥰🥀👸👹

This movie is living proof that Disney can create a quality timeless masterpiece when the people behind it have years to write the script, animate each frame with care and detail, and receive top notch voice acting and musical production. there is just so much to appreciate from this era when Disney wasn't just churning out films every ten months. This film is beautiful.

An important consideration with why the Beast was not improved by having good people around him, is that they were all servants, and thus subservient. His parents were the ones who 'ruined' him, a d they are now gone. Belle is the first person introduced as a potential equal. You even see the furniture becoming more bold in how they address the Beast with time as he changes and starts treating everyone better. First they are frightened by him entering the room. Then they are awkward while suggesting that he treat Belle nicer. Then they straight up tell him to control his temper. Then they have risen to the point where they can try to comfort him. Then when he says that they should let the people into the castle, they disobey him to protect the castle. I like to think it is the friendship with Belle that changed him, not necessarily the romantic aspect.

I think maybe Belle wasnt sure of her love for him until she was set free, and he wasnt sure what real love felt like until that point too. The quote " Staying means nothing unless you can leave." So her coming back when she didnt have to means something to him, and him saying he didnt want to control her and cares about what she cares about, and wants whats best for her is what matters to her. So it took some time for them to get to the point, and for Belle to realize, yup my love for him is real.

Tony Jay as Monsieur D'Arque the asylum keeper so impressed Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale that they chose for him for Frollo in Hunchback solely based off of the strength of his performance

One of the biggest things I love about this movie is the detail they put into beasts emotional transformation. Up until the wolf incident the is very much in the rut of playing the beast. Walking on all fours, limited to only standing on two, tattered pants, no shirt and a ragged cloak. After the wolf scene and as he’s recovering from the attack he is now dressing like a human, walking upright, making a effort to use utensils. His clothes are no longer in ruin but clean and mended, and as time passes the castle follows suit. Their little details but they say a lot about him and his mental and emotional state.

5:55 - as an equestrian myself.... Phillipe definitely should be trusted. As a rider, especially when you're not riding in a safe, enclosed area, it is very wise to trust the instincts of your mount. I was out on a trek with like 15 others and the mare I was on was being an absolute little shit (I'd already asked the paid staff to swap me with the customer that WAS on her because I sensed imminent danger.... basically yeah she would have decked someone less experienced).... however at one point despite how she'd acted up until that point, her body language changed and it was like she was tracking something. She was.... actually right. A mountain biker literally came flying down the mountainside and crashed into the ride. She'd heard or smelled him far sooner than anyone else and that gave me a couple of seconds to brace for the chaos that ensued. Listen to the horse. Most of the time they do know best.

Fun facts - "Beauty And The Beast" was the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The theme song "Beauty And The Beast" was originally going to be released with the version you hear in the film with the great Angela Lansbury singing it, but because of her age, they didn't think it was going to sell. So, they ask R&B star Peabo Bryson to team up with a then unknown French-Canadian singer to do another version that would be released to radio stations. That then-unknown singer was none other than superstar Celine Dion. The song made history when it became the first-ever song from any Disney movie to make it into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart (peaking at #9, though Peabo would go on to make more Disney history when he teamed up with Regina Belle for "A Whole New World" from "Aladdin," and that song will actually make it all the way to #1 and knocking out the song that, at the time, was spending the most amount of consecutive weeks at the top spot, 14 and that was Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" from the soundtrack of "The Bodyguard" - which you should watch and react to by the way).

God, I miss 2D disney. This is one of my favorites along with Great mouse Detective and The Rescuers.

The opening narration by David Odgen Stiers is unmatched. Coupled with that opening score...gets me every time. "For who could ever learn to love...a beast..."

This came out the year I was born. My parents took my older sister to see it in the theater and said it was the first time they had been to a movie where the audience stood up and clapped at the end. It's such a classic for so many reasons, but the one part I never, ever forgot was that prologue. The opening landscape, to telling the story through stained glass, to that BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL SCORE! 11/10. It's just exquisite!

The song "To Be Human Again" wasn't in the original movie, it's added on for the special edition of the movie.❤

Fun fact about the castle, all of the statues of gargoyles and monsters were repurposed old designs for the Beast.

The thing i love the most is that when the beast transforms back, Belle is unsure about him until she recognizes him by his blue eyes which she is shown to look into multi times during the film

Fun fact! Angela Lansbury wanted to redo her first take of singing "Beauty and the Beast" because she didn't think it was good enough, but they accepted the first take because it was absolutely perfect.

1:55 - "How old was he when he got cursed?" Me - The narrator said he'd be cursed until his 21st year (until he turned 21 years old), and Lumiere said they'd been there for 10 years, so he was cursed at 11 years old. If you watch Belle's Enchanted Christmas, it shows what happened with a bit more detail, instead of just stained glass.

I believe the back story for the Beast is that when his mother died his father who was not a loving man raised him with no love and the child was pretty much left to his own devices he grew up with no love in his heart nor compassion because that is how his father raised him and the people that lived in the castle did nothing to rectify this so in a way they contributed to this upbringing so when the enchantress cast the spell on him and all who lived in the castle it was a punishment to him and the people around him who allowed him to grow into what he was without guiding him properly as the only guiding adults they were partly to blame. Which is why now they intervene and try to guide him in this situation not only to end the enchantment but also because it was also their fault that he ending up like he did they felt guilty because they didn’t intervene when they should have during his father upbringing of him.

There is a drama series called "Once Upon A Time". Belle and the Beast still has cute relationship there, but it's also much darker sometimes. I love that series. All the Disney fairy tales are in it. 😊💖

My favorite Disney princess movie of them all. I love the story, the animation and the music. My favorite song, I would have to say is a tie between "Be Our Guest", "Human Again", "Something There", and "Beauty And The Beast". Also, Beast is technically what's known as a chimera in Greek mythology. He's got different animal features mixed into one character: The head and horns of a bison, the brow of a gorilla, the tusks of a wild boar, the body and front legs of a bear, and the hind legs and tail of a wolf.

30+ years later and still one of the best Disney movies of all time! 2 well deserved Academy Awards for Best Score and Best Song (Tale as Old as Time). 🏆 Belle is one of my all time favourite characters because her bibliophilic hobbies made me feel less alone. 🌹 Also thank you so much for this channel. I went through that thought process about the timing of the curse as a kid and came to the same conclusion. Also, Chip wouldn't have been born as a teacup! And thank you for seeing the positivity in this beautiful story, instead of the tired Stockholm syndrome charge.

My favorite Disney film ever made! Tho now I watch it with a bit of sadness knowing that Angela Lansbury who is the voice of Mrs. Potts in this version is no longer among the living. I cried when I found out she had passed away. Emma Thompson does a stellar job in her role as Mrs. Potts in the live action remake but Angela Lansbury will always be Mrs. Potts for me. And growing up I always had my nose buried in one book or another so seeing how much of a bibliophile Belle is helped me feel less alone and less like a weirdo because of my ADHD and OCD.

I was surprised to learn, when this first came out, that Robby Benson played the Beast. Long ago in the 1970s, he played a teen with a brain tumor in Death Be Not Proud, and then the love interest in both Ice Castles and Ode to Billy Joe. He also directed some episodes of Friends. He's not a huge star, but a talented and memorable actor. Thanks for reminding me of his career again.

30:06 I got to hear James Baxter talk about animating this scene at the Playgrounds festival in The Netherlands. They basically slaved away at it, iirc because there was no digital 3D camera back then. At least not an easily opperated one like we have now. While some stuff like the chandelier and ballroom background was 3D. Everything else, even the camera, is hand drawn animation during the dancing. I got to see a slide of the animation at the expo, a piece of paper of a frame during the dance sequence. It's so cleanly drawn! James said it was one of the hardest scenes he's ever animated in his career. Another movie that was trouble was 'Spirit, Stallion of Cimarron' (i prob didn't spell that right). Drawing horses is one if the hardest things for illustrators, now think of animating them and drawing them over and over. I have such respect for James Baxter, for all the work he's put in these timeless classics.

I forgot they added the “Human Again” song and the whole ‘teaching him to read’ part into the movie. The original version has a cut from the end of the snow day fun directly into the ballroom date.

I grew up with this movie on repeat…and my late cousin used to call me Belle because she said I was just like the character, especially with how much I’ve always loved to read…and Be Our Guest has always been my favourite song, so really, it’s no wonder that I loved Jerry Orbach so much from a young age.

I've always thought that if the beast really wanted to keep Belle out of the west wing, all he had to say was that that was where he stayed. Belle was avoiding him. She would have stayed far away from that part of the castle. Instead, the beast said it was forbidden, which piques the curiosity and the inner rebel.

I hope it will be "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" or "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" next time. ❤

that Beast was made up of the head of a buffalo, the mane of a lion, the tusks and nose of a wild boar, the brow of a gorilla and the bulky body of a bear... Everyone talks about how belle has Stockholm syndrome cause she falls for the beast aka her jailer, BUT papa out here gaslighting the horse, Philip wanted to go the good way and Papa said naw then once they were lost he's like where did you take us, like wait wait wait a minute!! 😮😮 Gaston is scary because obsession is a very real thing and it can be scary as heck!

This one is an underrated Disney Classic that is gorgeous all around. If I'm not mistaken though in the live action, the prince was indeed transformed as a boy while the rest of the castle was turned into objects to preserve their age, so to speak, while the Beast spends that time to try to break the curse. Funny enough, I just finished reading a Twisted Tale of Beauty and the Beast where Belle actually learned about the curse earlier on after stumbling on the fact that the Enchantress was her mother who had been missing for years. So it's spent on trying to solve the mystery together with some elements also taken from the live action movie.

Aww! This was my favorite as a child! Belle is the Patron Princess of all librarians. 😄 Which is why casting Hermione as Belle in the live-action version just made sense. 😂 You've got to watch that one next! It's my favorite Disney live action.

Sadly this special edition gets missed as It was a 2002 dvd Disney Platinum edition 2 Disc special edition release. (That was a mouth full). Tony Jay who voiced the creepy man who runs the asylum, he did that as his audition take, and they mailed him his check for that first scene. Then he was brought back of course, and then as a disney villain in Hunchback and a narrator in Treasure Planet.

"romantic interest helped him change" - kinda. The people in the castle work for him. It's an unbalanced power dynamic. Belle would be a peer. She was the only one to challenge him. His staff could encourage him to control his temper but he never received consequences for it until she left. He can't control her, so he had to leave his comfort zone and open up. Romance didn't take place until their friendship bloomed. On a side note...where is this dude's parents?

I consider the ballroom scene and the ensuing Beasts Lets Belle Go scene one of the most perfectly staged and executed bits of any movie I've seen. Not just any Disney movie or any kids' movie or any animated movie. Any movie. Of course, it's not like I watch every movie that gets made or anything. LOL. Still, I feel like I've seen enough that it's legitimately impressive.

The Beast was 11 when he got cursed - Lumiere says “ten years we’ve been rusting”, and the Rose will bloom until the Beast’s twenty first birthday, meaning *the Enchantress cursed an eleven year old child.*

There are several adaptations of this story. A french film that is amazing and a lot different. And the new Disney version of this story. Somehow the love story is always totally beautiful and captivating. However in this one, it is really the music that does it all. "Something new" is amazing and the background instrumental parts as well.

Thank you for watching one of my favorite films. Belle was a model for me growing up. As for the servants in the castle, their job determined the object they became, so maybe you Oscar would be a headset or microphone. Or if you want to keep to the Baroque theme, a musical instrument. Maybe a violin or clarinet:)

Disney may have started with Mickey and Snow White. And there are other princesses and films along the way But I think this is THE quintessential Disney film. It incorporates Everything that Disney is and should aspire to be. -the only criticism is that the Prince is cuter as the Beast

I think it was not necessarily Belle needing to say it out loud, but that the prospect of losing him- thinking she _had_ lost him- caused her to fully realize just how much he meant to her.

I am a die-hard movie reaction junkie because I LOVE the perspectives from different watcher’s’ observations that send my mind into new spirals of thought and consideration. Something you mentioned that I had NEVER heard mentioned before was how the town fed into Gaston’s ego like a cult, and that got me thinking about how the castle staff similarly fed into the Beast’s self-hatred by cowering in fear from him (important note, they were cowering from his temper and NOT from his beastly appearance, something that becomes apparent after Belle’s presence encourages more softness and that in turn earns more openness and comraderie from his employees - tldr; “wow… maybe people DIDN’T actually avoid me because I am a monster, but rather because I am an asshole!”) Wow… run-on sentences, am i right? 😂 Anyway, down the mental rabbit hole I went until I paused at the concept of “choice”, which is where I became fixated as soon as I heard you express your frustration over the Beast’s MANY other options at the end of the dance/mirror/“I release you” scene because, up until today, I completely agreed with you. But as I tossed around the word “choice” I began to think about how that word changed depending on Belle’s relationships with others in this movie. With Gaston, it’s obvious - he had no concept of her having a choice at all. “Look, Honey, aren’t you so lucky? I’m giving you everything you can ever dream of - ❤❤ME❤❤ - don’t waste your energy saying “yes” as we all know your answer already”. In his mind, Belle’s choice = whatever the f@!k his choice is. The town = “You… want… to… choose… something else??? I… I don’t get it.” We see in the opening “Provincial Town” scene exactly who a woman is supposed to be (wife juggling kids, ordering groceries and tending to the home) and what she’s supposed to want (to be beautiful [aka woman-with-wig] and to be with a handsome man [ie the Bimbettes]) and the fact that Belle actually HAS everything that a woman SHOULD want… yet she says she doesn’t want those things… is the core theme of that entire song. Ergo, you want choice? I mean sure… you get to choose between future A or future B. See? That’s two whole choices! Lucky you. Dad = oblivious to LITERALLY EVERYTHING OUTSIDE OF HIS OWN HEAD and thus choice is an illusion. “I’m not odd and so this my daughter cannot be odd. There. Problem solved. Oh, wait, you want a buddy to chat with? Hang on, let me dust off my societal norms handbook to figure out an answer for you… hmmm… alright, this says that Gaston should be the correct response!” The man loves his daughter endlessly, but any and all “choices” regarding him throughout the movie are about taking care of the adorable nincompoop. Which is a choice she makes happily every single time. But… it’s kind of… not a choice… right? Castle Staff = “We ABSOLUTELY are on board with you having your freedom of choice… now everyone act natural and friendly and - hey! Lumiere, make sure you keep the master busy and calm him down first while we fussy her up - and while we surely wouldn’t FORCE you to stay… any chance we can persuade you to? And possibly get together with our boss so we can escape the curse? But, like, ONLY if you want to! No pressure or anything!” While we’ll intentioned and genuinely endeared by Belle, they are all constantly balancing on the fine lines between what’s best for Belle and what’s best for them. So we’ll call this… “Freedom” of choice… with friendly (but heavy) persuasion to make the choice they ultimately want… And then there’s the Beast. To make a super SUPER long comment just a wee bit shorter, by the end of that dance scene when he gets to see first hand her heartbreak at seeing her father in distress… well, as far I can see, here is the VERY FIRST PERSON in Belle’s life that has truly given her absolute freedom to choose, even more than she ever realized. Because, again, she technically doesn’t know the terms of the curse. And while the castle has been pushing for the prince to “make his move” tonight… he ultimately chooses FOR HIMSELF to ignore them, the curse, and everything he wanted. He gave her no ultimatum, no explanation, and no obligation to return. Put not a single ounce of weight on her decision whatsoever. He just… released her… so she could choose her father (a not-so-subtle contrast to Gaston FORCING her to choose her father in just a few more screen time minutes). And SHE HAS ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION TO CHOOSE TO RETURN. That’s what really hit me today - if the Beast had asked her to return, or offered to fetch her father himself… how much of what followed would be genuinely volunteered? Did he offer to help only so she didn’t have to leave? For his own desire to keep her close or in hopes of still salvaging the cure for the curse? Would she stay out of love? Out of obligation? This “love” and “choice” shit is COMPLICATED, MAN! But instead… he tore away all of those strings… and just… took himself and his castle out of the picture so she could genuinely and honestly choose for herself what she wanted to do and when she wanted to do it. Now, tbf, movie plot would point out that she was then almost obligated to return due to Gaston’s temper tantrum… but the Beast still saw her returning ENTIRELY of her own accord, simply for the desire to see him and to see him safe. He was/is a prince. He was born to be served, but when had he ever been chosen? *steps off box of soap* ❤

A little funny detail that almost no one notices: the bear carpet under Gaston's armchair. You should rewatch that scene to notice the carpet keeps moving in every cut until it disappears entirely. The creators did that intentionally as a little joke.

A while back they actually figured out what book Belle was reading at the start of the film. Of course I forget what it is now. But it's not a Disney film. Honestly The Prince looked better as "A beast" than his human form. And the end dance was stolen from Sleeping beauty. Have you ever watched the 1988 Beauty and The Beast TV series with Linda Hamilton. It is really cool on so many levels.

Servants are bound to their duty in the royal realm. It's not that they can't influence a prince or the prince will never listen to the servants. It takes an outsider with a strong determined will to often break things up and make change. And as for age, modern times age doesn't really apply and you can see that they are both very young and one is quirky dreamer and the other has anger issues, both very teenage tendencies. If this was during the time of the French revolution, Beast's parents probably sent the young man away to a holiday castle for safety and that's why the prince didn't rule the town and the town didn't know the castle was occupied nor did you see Beast's parents.

This is literally one of the best films ever in Disney history. I remember doing the musical adaptation in school, I was Maurice, and it holds so much memories for me. I really do recommend you check out the live action, there’s a lot more details to the story, and the songs as well as the new ones are amazing. I also do recommend you to check out these two films that are similar Beauty and Beast stories. Penelope, starring Christina Ricci, Catherine O’Hara, and James McAvoy, tells the story of a girl of noble birth who was cursed due to the actions of her ancestors. Beastly, starring Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Mary Kate Olsen, and Neil Patrick Harris, is a modern take on Beauty and the Beast. 💛💙🥀

If you're doing Disney animated, I would love for you to do Sleeping Beauty. I don't know why, but I have always loved this movie. The use of the Tchaikovsky score, the incredible animation especially the background details. The movie is one of a kind. And Eleanor Audley is something else as Maleficent

Lumiere was Jerry Orbach from Law & Order as well as the father in Dirty Dancing. I good one to watch if you haven't seen it is Annie (1984) it has a all star cast.

Cogsworth's line "There's flowers, chocolate, promises you don't intend to keep." was improvised by David Odgen-Stiers.

Just commented on your reaction to The Hunchback of Notre Dame's intro. And for both you said "this intro gives me goosebumps". These are one of my three favorite animated intros. Hunchback, The Prince of Egypt, and Beauty and the Beast

Fun fact, the voice actor for Belle also did the voice work for the three blondes, and the voice of Cogsworth did the intro. Also, Belle is absolutely my favorite princess!!❤ Also, also, Beauty and the Beast is written in the style of a Broadway musical, and when the opening sequence was shown to critics (unfinished), everyone actually cheered and clapped at the end.

The reason this is a Special Edition is that they added in Human Again, which was planned to be used originally but because of a couple of references that a lot of time pass (which got in the way of long Maurice is lost in the woods, the directors even joked in the audio commentary that you saw the pyramids of Giza and you hear him yell "Belle?!") but because the song was added in the Broadway version of the movie, that made the directors adding the scene in a 2001 re-release on VSH and DVD, especially when they decide to cut away those time references, making it show that Belle stayed there at least three or four months (as winter starts when she first stay at the castle and it ends when she gets back after helping her dad). The original cast such as Paige O'Hara and Robiie Benson, even returned to record the new lines. A couple of shots were altered such as The Beast's room has been cleaned up and the fruniture not smashed anymore. It is messed up again later when The Beasts tells Mrs. Potts to let the invaders come, because after Belle left, he got so angered and depressed that he trasched the place.

Something of interesting note: Originally Gaston was supposed to survive his fall with plans to come back and kill the beast, but then those wolves would once again show up, this time they would be successful, and we would pan out just to hear Gaston screams of death. This death was decided to be too graphic but when the Lion King came out, this death was repurposed for Scar’s death. It was not seen as graphic with animals attacking each other as it would have been a human being attacked.

Monsieure D'Arque is voiced by the late Tony Jay. He did all his lines in his audition and since he did them so well. the directors Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise decided not to re-record them but just use them in the movie, so they decided to send him a paycheck. When they made The Hunchback of Notre Dame, they remembered Tony Jay's preformance and reached out to him to voice Frollo, hence how he got the part.

One thing that I love is the moment when the Beast is holding Gaston by his neck and Gstons starts begging not to hurt him. You can hear the Enchantress theme playing in the background. I feel like the Beast really saw himself in Gaston at that moment and decided to show him mercy, something he wished he had received when he was in Gaston's place.

My favorite Disney movie character. This was the first and only time that a character that was so much like me showed up on the screen and I was in love. Fueled a lifelong obsession with animation. At age 14 I got to see the animators working on this during a trip to Disney before this came out.

I got the feeling that the servants turned into tools related to their jobs. Like you said, the maids turned into dusters, while the cook turned into a stove, Mrs Potts (head houskeeper?) turned to a teapot (kind of related to her job anyway), the majordomo turned into a clock, head butler turned into a candlestick (again, sort of related to his job).

I love that when Belle is reading at the fountain in the beginning, the story she is reading is "Beauty and the Beast". I can tell because the picture it shows is one I've seen in an old book of fairy tales I read. And the book she takes back to the bookshop is probably "Jack and the Beanstock"

"I love how open that barrel is" It's called a blunderbuss. Essentially the forefather of shotguns; the trumpet shaped barrel helped guide the buckshot into a cone pattern to increase the hit area, as well as being able to fit larger loads to begin with compared to a musket. It was mostly for bird hunting and comedic effect in cartoons :D

James Baxter’s animation in the song “Beauty and the Beast” is some of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. It’s so smooth and awesome to look at. He was also the supervising director responsible for syncing the character animation to the 3D background

I love the subtle color psychology in this movie. Belle is the only person in the village who wears blue. Both Gaston and the Beast start out wearing red. As time goes on the Beast graduates to wearing purple and by the dance scene (when he is in love with her) he’s wearing blue as well. He ends up wearing red when Belle leaves and he is fighting Gaston (who is also wearing red) so he “seems” to be back on the same level in some way. This subconsciously makes his letting Gaston live even more meaningful since it kind of enhanced that he has changed despite the fact that he looks the same. Belle and Beast are the only two characters who wear blue in the movie, thus showing us that they belong together.

I'll let you know this special information, for everyone who thinks that Beast turning human again is "bad". I'll try to explain why actually it's alright how it ended. Beauty and the Beast has been inspired by Eros and Psyche Greek myth. (I recommend you to read it) Psiche is the name of the girl, but her name actually means "Soul". Speaking of Beauty and the Beast, the word "Beauty" isn't meant being beautiful outside, but on the inside; your soul, in fact. Beast since the start was revealed to be a monster, right? And that's why the Enchantress punished him, so that he could learn the lesson, or be doomed forever for what he did. Remember when there's a scene which Beast says that he's awful, meanwhile Belle is beautiful, so it would be impossibile to be loved by her. Mrs Bric says "You must help her to see past all that." And he replies "I don't know how." What Mrs Bric was referring to was in fact Beast's soul. She wanted him to understand that it doesn't matter the looks, but it's inside yourself what really values. Your Psiche. In the end, Beast fights against Gaston, who he really was the monster from the start. He looked beautiful outside, sure, but Belle didn't care about that. Gaston in fact is the opposite of what Beast was going to turn into, even if he was a beautiful prince before transforming into a beast. Once Beast turned human again Belle looked at Beast's eyes, and she said "It really is you!" That was meant about him being the nice, kind, gentle, loving person she fell in love with. She wasn't meaning to his looks, but his soul. "The eyes are the mirror of the soul". The animators did an awesome job with this movie, everything is just perfect, especially these little details like that. I'm so sad that not many people could understand, or notice these. I hope I was able to make you understand why the ending is actually amazing for Adam by turning human again. Also: Glen Keane was inspired by Michelangelo statues to make Adam human's body turning human in the transformation.

This is my favorite Disney movie when I was a kid. If not this then hunchback of Notre Dame. The only flaw to this movie is pointing out the age of the beast.❤ 28:39. He's actually human so yeah. He just looks like this

Yeah, if the narrator had just said “which would bloom until his 31st year”, that would’ve made a lot more sense and there wouldn’t be all this confusion about how old he was when he was cursed, because in “Be Our Guest” Lumiere sings about how “10 years we’ve been rusting”. If we take “21st year” and subtract 10 curse years, Princey would’ve still been just a kid! But “31st year” minus 10 equals 21, much more believable

"I use antlers in all of my decorating" is my favorite line from this whole movie. I quote it literally every time I'm decorating a new apartment. lol

I remember going to see this in theaters with my grandparents (I was about 6) and being completely blown away. As an adult, it absolutely holds up, and it's still one of my very favorite Disney movies.

Thank you for voicing the age physics at the end. That's how I always understood it, but when they did the live-action one, they saw the age thing as a major weird plothole, so they changed the story a bit for that. This was a great reaction. Thank you for this.

Don't listen to the haters: I loved this reaction. Animation is just as valid as the action flicks. I hope that you'll venture outside of Disney as well. I know you've enjoyed DreamWorks. I think you would love the Don Bluth studio productions (former Disney animator). Anastasia, An American Tail, and The Secret of Nimh are particularly gorgeous and well told stories.

The song 'Human Again' was not in the original theatrical (nor home video) release, but was produced and added later. Some people believe that lyricist Howard Ashman, who was stricken with AIDS at the time, expressed his yearning to feel well and human again in this song. Ashman passed away months after the film's release, and it is dedicated to his memory.

Absolutely love watching your reactions anyway but when I saw you had done this one I literally put it straight on because it's such a special film for me! Please react to the live action version because I think they did it so well!!!!!

Fun fact Prince Adam was 11 years old when he was cursed. During 'Be Our Guest' we hear : "10 years we've been rusting" from Lumier. Giving us a timeline.

And if you pay attention to the bimbettes what they’re called the three girls the blondes each scene their hair is different. They’re like switching hairstyles each scene. Gaston is honestly my favorite villain. I don’t know why I just really like him specially in the live action. I love how nervous you were when clockwork was going to tell the beast she wasn’t coming. You’re like prepared for him to scream.

grew up watching it and love it

I was in grad school when this movie came out and a buddy and I (both enthusiastic artists) went to see it opening weekend. We were both floored by how amazingly beautiful it was. The next weekend I was able to spend thanksgiving at my fiance's house and took her to see this movie. It was supposed to be a romantic callback to our very first "date" for which our friends dragged us to the Little Mermaid and then engineered the two of us sitting together. I took her to Beauty and the Beast and then to her favorite restaurant. It did NOT go well. Right behind us sat a young woman with a boy about age seven and a girl who was, maybe, four. The boy was ENGROSSED. He particularly enjoyed the big battle between all the castle furniture and the townsfolk. The little girl was squirmy. Then Gaston shoots the Beast with his bow. The girl screamed in horror and her screaming did not get below 105 decibels for the rest. of. the. movie. I don't know how or when she breathed. The young mom did not want to drag her totally engrossed son out of the theater (lest he start screaming, too) to get her her squalling daughter away from the rest of the audience (who were now missing the climax of the movie to glare at the poor woman and her screeching daughter), nor did she want to leave the six or seven year old boy alone in the theater. So, she she vainly tried to mollify and quiet her daughter. The Beast turning back into the prince only made her keep screaming, because he wasn't the furry, lovable Beast anymore. As far as she was concerned, the Beast had died and Belle was now dancing around with a complete stranger, and she kept up her wailing until the end credits were rolling and the harried mom could hurry her still-crying little daughter (and son) out of the theater. My wife STILL doesn't like to watch Beauty and the Beast with me because of how that poor little girl -ruined- -wrecked- nuked our date over thirty years ago now.

Glen Keane’s animation on the transformation sequence (and his interview about how he prepared and worked for that sequence) is simply wonderful. If you haven’t seen his raw animation roughs, they are SO worth looking up.

The beast is a chimera with the head of a buffalo, eyebrows of a gorilla, body of a bear, jaws and mane of a lion, tusks of a boar, and legs and tail of a wolf.
