Totally understand about acrylics damaging your nail. I was like that too when I went to the salon. However, since COVID I have been doing my own nails and came to the realization that it was NOT the acrylics ruining my nails...it was improper removal. Since doing my own, never had an issue with nail breakage or thinning. I do acrylics or hard gel on my natural nail and then dip or apply gel polish over it. I use peel base under my colors so that when I want to switch, I can without causing damage to the acrylic or gel underneath. While it did take a month of trial and error for me to get it right, it was worth it. Watched videos on RU-vid..... Marla Kriss is a good one

Just a note on the Olaplex shampoo and any other shampoo that is high in pH: The reason they are that high is so the cuticle of the hair can open a bit to enable the ingredients to better penetrate the hair. It's much more important to have a conditioner or final rinse that is pH balanced rather than the shampoo. That's why a vinegar water rinse is so popular, because it closes the cuticle back up. At any rate, you have a gorgeous head of hair so you must be doing something right. And your hairdresser is fire! Perfect color!

In terms of the OLAPLEX shampoo, 6-6.5 is definitely a higher pH than human hair’s natural pH level, but as long as you’re following up with a good conditioner, which will, by design, lower the hair’s pH to its optimal level, you’re really not going to run into any long term issues with your hair. It would be more of an issue if you were shampooing and just skipping the conditioning step entirely.

@V yes, conditioner still maintains the hairs ideal pH for the most part, even after rinsing it out. That’s why your hair still feels slippery and detangled even after rinsing out the product. It also depends on the performance of the specific conditioner you’re using. If there is any sort of pH disruption, a good leave-in conditioner will be beneficial as well.

The water that you use to rinse your hair is ph 7 though..🙈 Olaplex shampoo is around pH6 - which is perfectly fine & will NOT harm your hair (espc the "blonde enhancing" shampoo - is between pH5.8 & 6.2..💫) I suspect the original Olaplex shampoo is more between those 2 figures, but they used to round it up to 6 bc - in the real world etc..) Yes your scalp is pH is approx 5.5..& the hair prob rests at around pH 4.5 - 5.5 itself - but that shampoo is "pH balanced" to be optimally effective for use, it must be "effective enough" to remove what it's meant to remove - & it undergoes rigorous tests - if it wasn't "suitable" for bleached hair - they wouldn't bottle the shampoo & sell it as part of that Olaplex system - & unless you've figured out a way to change the pH of the water you use to wash your hair in - ie make it "more acidic" - no ppl, don't go adding lemon juice to your rinse..🙈 (& hard water areas are worse than ever, re alkalinity) - you hv more to worry about with the water. (I would point out the the irony of ppl bleaching their hair blonde at a pH of (anybody's guess; certainly highly alkaline) - then deciding that a pH difference of about 0.5 is going to make a huge difference. (Suspect much of this is for the other brand's shampoo - to "get one over" olaplex - which is the industry standard💫 that evbdy else has copied - they hv decided to use influencer fronted pseudo science, to say "Oh, ours will be 0.5 pH different, so it's "better." bc your scalp is pH5.5 - so if your shampoo is between 5.8/6.2 - well ouf, that will damage it...(!)🙄Not really. Note that Olaplex shampoo, is optimally designed to use with its products, & is SLS/sulphates free💡- which rlly matters - but! - a co wash of a different kind may not remove everything it should, when shampooing 💡 & that's a) bad for your hair & b) any buildup will go a way to "ruin" a blonde shade, & 💡may stop the conditioner doing its job💡 but, most importantly, the Olaplex conditioner that you apply next - is pH 4.5 - 5.0; & so all will be well..💡 (Tbh, this is why none scientist) types shd not hv access to these stats - bc unless they're qualified to know what they're reading💡.. you know?! I suspect it sounds good when an influencer tells a bunch of none professionals, oh the pH is better on this shampoo than Olaplex shampoo - but in the real world..hm..Not really🙏💜(I could be less kind..) NB; I should be getting paid for my expertise here..🙄 - mine are science based though, I'm not actually a hairstylist/colour specialist. (& the Revlon one-step dryer⭐ - millions sold around the world every minute - bc it's very very good, used properly it rlly works - & is relatively inexpensive, too. (The Dyson dryer - good but expensive, the Dyson air wrap - still needs work yet.) Stick with the Revlon, yet, ppl🙏

There's a very big misconception about deoderant (natural or not) versus antiperspirant. Deoderant only works on odor, it will not prevent perspiration which is why you still sweat and feel damp. Enter anti perspire ent . This stops you from sweating at all. That's the equivalent of using conditioner in your hair, when you want a shampoo. They do 2 different things. I had to switch back to antiperspirant as well, I just couldn't find a deoderant that controlled the odor (I gave it a year), so if you use something that doesn't allow you too sweat, bacteria (which is what causes the smell) doesn't have a chance to form.
@csinc182
@csinc182 2 года назад
I went on natural deodorant band wagon too but found after awhile it was ineffective at controlling odour. The best thing I’ve used so far is actually a benzoyl peroxide cleanser that I used as an underarm mask in the shower. I leave it on for a couple of minutes and pretty much can get away with not using anything else. I would recommend however that you find one that is less than 5% as 5% can be a bit irritating. As well, switch to white towels as the peroxide will leave bleach stains on a coloured towel.

@@TheBeautybound Things like tretinoin are often prescribed by GPs. And even if you don't have one and use a sliding scale clinic for basic healthcare those doctors can prescribe it as well. @TheBeautybound
@TheBeautybound 2 года назад
@@ajae... I appreciate what you are sharing, Good Rx is great and it is helpful for you to bring it to people's attention, but I guess it just depends on the doctors and the systems in your area. Most GPs won't write a prescription for trentinoin for aging concerns, only for medical conditions. Many plans, even free ones, typically require a referral for a specialist and that typically requires a medical issue as well. I'm just saying, if you want it expressly for anti-aging, it is cheaper to go the subscription route for many people. Also, a lot less hoops. If you have acne or medical issues with your skin, it is absolutely a good idea to go the medical route if that option is available to you. Medical coverage, availability to care and insurance plans vary WIDELY.
@ajae...
@ajae... 2 года назад
@@TheBeautybound That's a good distinction to make. I once had a GP give me a prescription for Tazorac for my acne even though my insurance didn't cover it even with a prior authorization. It's coverd for psoriasis, so she went that route. At the time it was the most effective for me, and she took care of me. I'm not above some underhanded tactics to get what I need. I don't know if you're capable of getting pimples, but how about slathering your face with vaseline or whatever breaks you out a few days before you see your GP. If it's just one pimple then freak out like it's the end of the world, and you might get your prescription. You could also say you just experienced a breakout, but it cleared up over the weekend and you don't want another. I'm kidding. But not really. Capitalism uses dirty tricks support insurance companies, so why not use them too? Or you could just use Agency if it actually is less expensive and you don't want to scam your doctor.

As an esthetician it’s exhausting constantly working to counteract alot of the miseducation people see on a tiktok, Facebook post or in advertisement disguised as educational. What a lot of people also don’t realize that sourcing natural ingredients is so much more taxing on the environment and then the products either aren’t effecting or go bad so quickly because of marketing propaganda claiming preservatives aren’t safe. I’m not knocking anyone for what they choose to use, I’m simply in the business of what’s safest and gives the best results. There was a time when I couldn’t decipher and ingredient list and relied mostly on marketing to dictate where my money went. We’re all learning and growing, including myself. Not trying to spark any heated discussion, the research speaks for itself- just wanted to show my support.

Word. I've been using it for over a decade. I even have one called "Wolfthorn" that smells very different, like yummy gummy worms! 😅 (It does take me a really long time to go through deodorant though, so I'm not sure what scents are available rn.) Mainly I started using Old Spice because many years ago it was nearly impossible to find a "women's deodorant" that wasn't an antiperspirant (antiperspirant simply = sweatgland-blocking aluminum). Old Spice was a reliable/easy option that was always readily available at any store, and it didn't include the insane mark-up that the rare "natural" brands had at the time. But now, since the industry has acknowledged a greater demand for simple deodorant-only options, I may explore some of those when I'm due to restock. 😊 Note: I do actually keep an antiperspirant on-hand for special circumstances, but I use it so rarely that I've had the same stick for seeeveral years.

I want the healthiest one for my hair but it’s a little confusing with ions or non-ionic and everyone pushes the Dyson… I’ve been using the Revlon one step since my old blow dryer died but I agree with you, I feel like it’s not healthy for my hair. A review on budget friendly, mid range and high end blow dryers and what Ionic means would be awesome! Would also love an updated styling/after shower routine for your hair. 😊

honestly the hair oils and rice water comparison doesn’t make sense at all. the reason you may have experienced breakage could be due to the starch present in the rice water. oils have no starch, and changing 100% oil to a combination of different oils would probably do no difference at all since hair is dead tissue and has no reparative properties eg. you can’t expect much from hair products besides some silkiness and shine (this don’t apply to scalp, but scalp is skin, not hair).

Question about Agency. I've used Curology for almost 3 years. Back then, Curology was used for anti-aging or acne. I don't have any dark spots, which is what I'm always hearing others talk about for their reason to switch to Agency. They want the ingredient to lighten those dark spots. I have to disagree on the switch from Curology. My curology formula is Tretinoin, azelaic acid, and niacinamide. I see no reason to pay more money for the same thing with agency, especially when a lot of derms suggest not using more than 3 actives at a time. Not to mention I just saw that Curology has a dark spot formula as well that can have hydroquinone in it, just like Agency but the Curology one is cheaper. Whatever causes that must be what causes my severe knots. I have very slight wavy hair but yet the density is low due to shedding and breakage, and it between fine and normal. No matter what conditioner, hair mask, or detangler that I use it still does this. It's just so weird! Crystal stick deodorants have always been the best to control odor in my opinion, but everyone’s body chemistry is different. There’s also a BAD purging period when switching from antiperspirants to non-antiperspirants, usually around two weeks, but it can vary. You smell. You’ll sweat. Like NEVER before. Then *usually* (key word) one day you just stop (if you’ve found what works for you. I will say even now, sometimes my body says it needs a break from the Crystal / salt rock (never smelly, just not as great), then it starts working at optimal level. i can assure you that argan oil and marula oil will not do anything bad to your hair unless you have abnormally greasy hair (but they are too precious to use on hair despite what people do; you can have the same effect from an olive oil mask). they're just vegetable oils made of essential fatty acids (~99%) and a tiny amount of anti-oxidants etc. squalane won't damage your hair either, but it's not made for hair masks. it's a tiny fraction of olive oil that was extracted and that has a dry-touch that allows you to use it in cosmetic formulation to have less greasy finishes in face and hair serums. you can use it as a a styling product mixed with other oils that you love.

Shmidts, Tom's of Maine, Salt Rock, Each & Every, Little Seed Farm, Lume, etc. All those are just sort of like cover up air freshners for your pits. Whereas Kosas has low amounts of skincare acids that truly kill the smelly bacteria with no residue on your clothes in a convenient rollerball delivery system and a clear fragrance free option. Never had any breakage like this or hair loss in the shower or out of the brush. Ive had weft hair extensions and been silver before. No issues, with this before using Olaplex. I recently, a month ago had my normal follow up with my Dr. All labs were normal, including with hormones, etc. I don't take any medications and have no health issues. Only new thing introduced was the Olaplex. My hair stylist was even shocked this last time I went in for a tone at how much I was shedding and loosing while brushing my hair. She was thinking maybe the olaplex was adding to much protein or bonding my hair too much which was causing the breakage. I only wash my hair once a week because I have naturally really thick curly hair. Just started using Ouai and Im hoping the hair loss and breakage stops soon. My friend uses Olaplex with no issues, so it might just happen randomly depending on your hair texture, chemicals, etc.

Olaplex felt like it helped my hair the first wash or two, but then after that... nothing. It doesn't make sense to continue spending that kind of money on it. I'm fine with my carefully selected drugstore shampoos and conditioners that cost ~$10 or so. They work for me. I have nothing against pricier brands, but I honestly think a lot of the time you're just paying for a name and not a product. I get good results with products that contain good ingredients regardless of the name on the label - or the price tag. Same thing with clean beauty. People are buying it because of the word "clean" and not because of what is ACTUALLY in it. That said, the only miracle product I've ever discovered for hair is the L'Oreal Lamellar Water. Olaplex shampoo is drying out my coarse hair...What to use instead? I haven't found anything yet that doesn't make my hair worse!! And I'm 51 now. I'm beginning to despair.🤪

Personally, I rotate between a natural deodorant and a regular deodorant. I had really good luck with Lume (though I prefer the cream/lotion in a tube over the stick) for my natural deodorant. Granted, I don't sweat a lot. But if it's hot/humid out, I do go with a regular deodorant (either Secret or Dove).

I’m very open to trying “clean” beauty products, but I agree that sometimes brands use scare tactics that aren’t backed by good research. I have very sensitive skin and almost all of the products I’ve reacted to have been “clean.” I love that they work for many people, but I need products that are fragrance-free and more gentle. Thanks for keeping it real!

Speaking of natural nails,have you tried IBX system?Couple months usually fixes my nails and I also frequently change my nail colors (natural nails with builder and gel polish,peel off base are great for changing colors)

So I’ve recently started losing my hair, which I believe is covid related, so your videos and recommendations are on a completely different level right now!! Can’t thank you enough!!!🥰

I’m curious, do you think Covid caused your hair to thin? That’s a new one. I hope everything is back to normal. Covid is taking so much… the hair is one bridge too far!

about olaplex shampoo, she said that it hight ph but isn't a ph balanced product even highter since it a 7? Our hair is acidic (ph=4.5/5) and it loves acidic procucts and that's why we should never use baby shampoos cuz they are alkaline and doctors recommand hair friendly shampoos (acidic shampoos)

Same for me on acrylics kept doing it over and over now nails have permanent ridges, but I agree they do look so nice. And agree on Deodorant too I don’t care what kind of natural one I chose, I smelled a little to “natural” 😖 Great video, it was my first time watching

No deodorant is going to stop the natural occurrence of sweating lol deodorants are just designed to mask the gross smell of BO. So if you sweat despite using deodorant, don’t panic it’s not a big deal. ✌️

Deodorant are not antiperspirants….. they won’t help with dampness. Ughhhh

Perhaps she is quite aware of that. She just can't handle the sweatiness she experiences with all-natural deodorants any longer and has decided to switch back. That's what I took from what she said. I didn't get that she didn't understand the difference.

NYX makes a cheaper, identical pencil to the Arches and Halos one, and it has a lot more product in it so you might want to give that one a try sometime. I've seen one from e.l.f. that looks pretty much the same, too, and it's only $5. I haven't tried that one. Maybe you could do a comparison video with all of them sometime🤷‍♀ Anyway, Happy New Year!

I bought The Ordinary oil for fullness based on your swear by statement. I used the link in your video so you got paid.. now you’re coming out against The Ordinary oil.. what game are you pulling here???
@inamuri6006
@inamuri6006 2 года назад
I'm sorry but the logic behind stopping the 3 The Ordinary oils does not make sense haha - there is nothing inherently wrong with using pure products on your hair, what went wrong with the rice water was the over application of protein to hair that tended towards protein over moisture imbalance, that is an issue specific to that one "product" (though rice water isn't exactly a product, more of a DYI solution). I think the lesson you should have taken from that was to ease into new products or DYI "products" and be moderate in your approach instead of tending towards a heavier handed approach. The lesson should not be to stop using single ingredient products all together.

You should understand the whole concept of something before coming to a conclusion. Just because a ph is a tad higher doesn’t mean it’s bad.. it’s actually necessary. Please do more research before making dumb claims.

Natural deodorants are just that. Deodorants. They're not antiperspirants, which keep you dry. There are studies showing a link between the aluminum used in antiperspirant and breast cancer. But, everyone has to make their own decisions. I personally have used Native for years. I find it lasts longer than any other deodorant-antiperspirant I've ever used, and that's been a lot...hahaa

Natural deodorants definitely don't work for me. I need antiperspirant with aluminum in it. My sweat doesn't smell that much, but I easily get rings under my arms if I wear a t-shirt. So annoying.

I love natural deodorants. The baking soda ones are the only that that work for me. Better than the clinical antiperspirants too! I also don't have to feel guilty about using aluminum 🥰
