You made me cry. I think you said it so well. We all want to be pretty. Cosmetic surgery has been around since before color TV. If you legitimately had something that you REALLY wanted or needed to have fixed, you could find a way. But it wasn’t accessible or accepted or EXPECTED in our day like it is now. We were told to learn to love ourselves the way we were. We learned to play up our best features and be unique. Now, everyone just takes the easy way out, and ends up looking the same.

@@JenPhelps Yep. As I recall, from the 70s to the 90s, procedures of various kinds were more for models, actors, and actresses - people who made a living with their faces. The exception might be braces although given how expensive they were (and are), I'd guess they were mostly for correcting bite issues. I think the wedge in the crack was breast implants which became more of a thing for normal people in the 90s.

Did you know 'plastic surgery' has been around for centuries, and the first 'plastic surgeons' were butchers. As punishment, people had Noses and ears cut off, it was the butchers who sewed it back on (if family grabbed it) or reshaped some more skin to give them a nose or ear... but the biggest advance was in WW2, when men were horribly burned but survived in fighter planes. Doctors invented all sorts of amazing surgeries, they even had a group called 'the Guinea Pig Club' as they really were used as experiments to save their lives and to give them faces back

Someone called them "muppet eyelashes" which I think is a good description. I don't mind false eyelashes that look close to natural, especially if it is just a few individual ones added to the outer corners -- that usually looks good. Second on my list would be contouring and highlighting the nose, with the bright white glowy powder on the tip, so it looks like the tin man's nose in the Wizard of Oz.

I was going to say exactly the same as @COgirl394. I've never followed a trend in my life. Only accidentally, when berets were suddenly in fashion a few years ago, and I all of a sudden was 'in' when I wore one of them (I have a big collection of berets, fascinator, vintage fascinators, and vintage hats from the 20s, 40s, 50s and early 60, and have had that for over 15yrs). I did the natural look when it wasn't in and will keep doing so when it isn't. I'll do a dramatic look when I feel like it, in a style I'm comfy with. Just embrace yourself and what you love most. It's freeing and really helps you feel your best. Eff all those trends. It might be a bit harder to find the type of products you need when trends change (as I had to shop in Korea before that was normal because I couldn't find enough cream and liquid products that looked much better on me), but as you have a large collection, you'll not have to worry about that. At least not for a long while 😉. Enjoy your maximal look as long as you want 😘.

If people make hurtful comments just to be hurtful, can't you block them? I've been thinking about trends and aging and stuff lately. I'm old enough to be your mother. Let's just get that out of the way, I'm old. What I hate to see happening is that videos are made to "help" us conform, not to inform us. I set my own trends. Sometimes I'm demure, or playful or dramatic. Sometimes I really don't care or want to put on makeup. So that's how I do it. Eyeshadow is for old ladies? Great! Watch me wear it and love it! Why should the kids tell the adults what looks good? They don't have the right to. They haven't gained enough maturity to know what actually looks good. Our youth driven society has lost respect of others and worships young, androgynous perfection. This is a sad version of reality. You ARE beautiful! You are gentle and sensitive and caring. Your face reflects that. I often think/comment about your beauty. It's those minor things that make us special among all the rest of the world. They aren't flaws. They are "beauty marks"! Thanks for being real and informative. Love your channel.
@20thcenturyrelic
@20thcenturyrelic Месяц назад
The "eye shadow is for old ladies" thing is a way for the younger people to differentiate themselves from us. (I'm 62.) Just like we had our things back in the day. It's a trend and will pass. The difference is, there will be documentation of their rebellion. Yes, there was of ours, but embarrassing old photos can have "accidents" or be lost. 😉 The Internet is forever! I think that, as younger girls and women move into the workforce, they'll want a more sophisticated look and will go back to eye shadow.
@rondawiebe1505
@rondawiebe1505 Месяц назад
@20thcenturyrelic I agree that this is what is happening often and you're right that every generation does it in some way. I just don't like it that women are feeling pushed to look younger all their adult lives. I want the kids to look up to the elders and aspire to be more mature and poised. We "old ladies" are beautiful and have so much to offer to the young-uns. We have learned what works for us and I vote for everyone appreciating the age they are. As an artist, my taste has changed and mellowed. I'm still very different from other women but I'm not trying to prove anything by using a certain look, or trying to look younger. I worked hard to get here and I'm content. I hope others can join me.

Fake eyelashes are too heavy for me too. Many women around me have huge lashes and it detracts from their beauty in my opinion. We are all being sold things and I’ve been influenced to buy things too many times that didn’t add up to the hype. It’s one of the reasons I love your channel.
