My wife said she was going to leave me if I didn't stop listening to this song. Long story short, she got the house, car and custody of the kid. But I got two turntables and a microphone, so it's all good.
+Kevin-Ate-Nine as well as Soundgarden and RATM. They also had Stone Temple Pilots, but that bothers me slightly since that game takes place before Core was released.
'90s Beck was some of the most funky, fun music. The man went everywhere... rock, psych, hip hop, country, disco, pop, lo-fi, electronic, folk, funk, you name it.
I did not appreciate Beck's subversive sound and videos as a child but I do now. This guy was taking the fork in the road in the 90s and I respect him for it. The music is timeless.
More than 20 years later, I still laugh a lot with the guy with the oranges appearing from out of nothing! Beck's videoclips are deliciously crazy, as well as his songs. Love this guy!
He also the guy on the roof ,in "LOSER"!!! Already thought he was weird back then, with his guitar and mirrored sunglasses!! Thats when i said to myself:"Whats next, ..Oranges or something??!" And there you go...It's f#ckin insanity, sir!!☝️🥸
Beck is one of the most talented musicians. Ever. He goes into every corner, dusts things off, and brings them out into the light and re-introduces us to sounds, sights and motions we forgot about for awhile. He’s a great, great musician but also a great music historian and visual artist. Long may he reign.
@@singthebluesifiwant_4848 - He put on a really great show with fantastic production, lights, sound, and a top-notch band. He was super engaging with the audience, too, which was a nice surprise to me. Enjoy the concert!
@@singthebluesifiwant_4848 - Cage also played at the Beck concert I saw (third time for me seeing Cage). They are one of the best bands to see live, hands down. Matt Schultz is a Jaggeresque genius of a frontman -- right up there with the best ever. I love both artists.
If We had a time machine .....what and where would you go back to? I'm 42 from Dandridge TN.....I'd go back to 2001. Last time saw my dad..........but I lost my baby brother. Life lesson.......Memories
This song will always have a special place in my heart and ears. In 1997 I volunteered at my local college radio station, this was always the first song I'd play every shift. Being a small and falling apart station we were equipped with, you guessed it, two turntables and a microphone. And a CD player, but that's irrelevant to the story 😁
@@patrickhayes3099 KTEQ, back before the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology got changed to "South Dakota Mines". I'm not bitter about the change 😂 The channel was down for a while due to somehow forgetting to renew with the FCC for years, but they're back and online as well now.
@Trippie Chris Man I was so broke back then. No, wouldn't go back. Want to live like that? Go low information (quit watching the news) and low tech (no smart phone, no internet, no social media, buy magazines). Buy a watch. Only shop the local stores. You'll be the Amish living among the modern folks. Not a bad life though. The 1980s and 1990s were good to me after high school. High school sucked.
Free trade was removing opportunities and the internet had not yet replaced them. Gen X got screwed up but no one cared as I watched myself and everyone around me fall through the cracks of low and no and under employment. And worse. The prevailing musical talent tended to die.
I'll never forget the looks on all the faces at the 2014 Grammys when he beat out Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Pharrell for Album of the Year. 'Stunned' is an understatement. 😅😅😅
This would play all the time on MTV after school when I was in 6th grade. Couldn't wait to become an adult, but now I'd give anything to go back. The world is a fucked up place and I've lost too many family members over the years.
I remember seeing the music video on MTV in 1996 when I was a 10-year old kid,I'm now 35 and looking at it again after many years puts a smile on my face!
Thats definitely not an organ dude, its a wurlitser 200a ! Like the one supertramp and so many other artists use. Probably the most common keyboard sound
@@charleebrown7188 Haha I remember tweeting (before I deactivated my account) something like that Beck is when you cross indie folk with alt hip hop, country, lofi, garage rock, two turn tables & a microphone
One of the best times of my life! Seeing Beck live and watching my daughter light up, singing, screaming the lyrics,on time! BECK is one of a zillion gifted, hard working, true musicians I've ever seen, live!
Gigan For President Well, my friend said "You heard of Beck? He just won a music award." I was like "Is this the same Beck from the 90's?" And he's like "No, this is a recent artist"
Same here. Whenever it pops into my head it makes me laugh. I can't think of many songs which contain lyrics reviewing the previous few seconds of music 😂
I love the juxtaposition of the happy, beautiful couple in the field with Beck screaming over that. And then the scene with the three Becks talking over each other, including a drunk Beck? Brilliant. The leftmost line dancers at 2:55 are really where it's at!
I cannot believe this shit is almost 20 years old. When I hear that intro to this day, I can't think of anything but the hot summer days of the mid/late-90s. My biggest worry at the time was if I was going to get an N64 for my birthday. Fuck getting old.
Nothin' like it! Genius! This video and song just make me laugh at how seriously human beings take life. Thanks for reminding me Beck. The meaning of life is that it stops. Keep on movin' folks, keep on movin' don't stop.
Still remember watching this on Pop-Up Video in the 90s. He won a Grammy for this as well for Best Male Vocal. The following year he was SPIN Magazine's artist of the year. You know, back when pop music wasn't shyte. Sorry to hear all of the people hating on him are so out of touch.
It drives my kids crazy when I answer random questions with “two turntables & a microphone” liiiike “what’s for dinner?” 😂 or “do you know where ___ is?” Nope. But I got 2 turntables…. & a microphone 😏 when they groan I toss in a “let’s make it ooooout baby” I’d like to thank Beck for these special moments with my children. 😬
true story, beck deserved it. Everyone always wants the poo star or the more famous name to win...but if you actually listened to the albums of all the artists. Beck was the best. I'm glad the Grammy's aren't the VMAs... Daft punk, arcade fire would never win album of the year at the VMAs. Kanye storming the stage was a joke. Look, Beyonce has accomplished a lot. Beck has been a solo act for the better part of three decades and writes all his stuff...Beyonce has needed 4 vocalists, countless songwriters and a marriage to one of the greatest rappers ever to enjoy moderate success. I'll take beck any day, thank you.
daft punk & arcade fire put out very non-VMA albums. random access memories was an old school dance and funk record, and arcade fire put out a folky indie rock record not unlike morning phase. there were better records you could've picked to make ur point
jamalgwapoderrick I said that daft punk and arcade fire would NEVER win VMA album of the year. So yes, I did choose artists to make my point. They would only be accepted at an actual musical award show like the Grammy's. Loved that funk album by daft punk, trust me...I love funk...thought it deserved to win. Im saying it ridiculous how a VMA guy like kanye disses an actual artist like beck. Kanye was ranting about Beyonce making the best music videos last night. Its about music, not videos.
Beck does has the coolest line in song: I have two two turntables and a microphone. Where it's at? I want to see them for sure! I just love that line for sure! Does put a smile on my face all the time!
