You inspired me to buy this knife . Had a big branch break off our tree recently and the BK9 made short work of it , my hatchet stayed in its sheath . Very impressed with this knife , thank you for bringing it to my attention .

BTW...BK7s and BK9s sharpen up EASY with a standard Worksharp Knife and Tool Sharpener and the 25 degree guide. A must have item for knife-girl maintenance.

You're not crazy Chris, I have this knife also and stripped and modified it myself. This is one hell of a capable knife in the right hands period, still holds a razor edge and I have used it for everything from processing wood for fire, shelter building etc... Highly recommended!

Ahhh... I bought this knife largely because of what you presented in this video. I have a lot more knives now but everything you said rang very true for me over a couple years. Just finally ordered handle scales and will strip coating now, feel it will be possibly my all time favourite knife now. Brilliant video thankyou

Been trying and collecting several "large" type survival knives including the CS Trailmaster, and the Esee Junglass none of which feels as comfortable as a long use blade as the BK9. I've had the Bk7 myself for years as a Marine Infantryman for my go to knife. Now as an avid outdoorsman in the back woods of Missouri the Bk9 and Bk7 duo is always strapped to my person and or pack. Thanks for the suggestion Preparedmind 101.

Hey Chris, thanks for the tip. Got a BK-9 and stripped it. Took it camping, split wood, chopped, made hot dog sticks, baton split some wood for the wood stove, used it a bunch and still razor sharp. Does everything a knife or hatchet can do, best knife I own, even better than the $350 pieces. Doesn't feel big, thought it would, feels like part of your hand and very agile. Great sales pitch, you sold me and couldn't be happier. Thanks, rock on, keep prepared. Best knife I've ever seen.

I’ve had this knife for 5 years now thanks to your channel and I put it threw hell, this is a great knife I process wood with it, and even do food prep with it, cut tomatoes and things like that, all my friends laugh, they say your going to prep food with that. And at the end this knife does it all.. great review.

Chris, Thank You for introducing me to the Becker BK9. Everytime I hear about this knife it reminds me of your videos!! I finally decided to get one and I like it but I decided to keep it as is and figure out modifications for it later. Your videos are the very first ones I saw on the BK9. I can't wait to use it this summer!!! Thanks Bro.

Yea, I got hammered on my video reply on the BK9 when mine broke, just trying to prove how tough of a knife it was. It’s a great knife and handles great. Just like you mentioned it feels like an extension of your hand. Thanks for your reviews as you introduced me to one great knife.

I just got mine yesterday and it's way better in person, its feel light but strong it is super dupper sharp out of the box. I just love it, 3 hours later I was at the hospital getting 3 stitches in my right hand, Now we are Bond by Blood and inmidiately became my Favorite knife. I'm Extremely Impress!

Thanks for your video. I have to totally agree with you about the BK9. I feel the same about it. With the motorbike love to go to Sweden. A few days in the woods. Hanging out in the hammock. For me the BK 9 is still the best. Had also a few different ones but to be honest they didn't even came close to the usefullness of the BK 9. And maybe what you are saying is thrue and that it comes down to muscle memory because it was my first bigger knife. But chopping some firewood it doesn't want to come back and hit me in the face. All the force goes directly into the cut while it won't hurt my hand or forearm. Be safe out there when you are alone. Greeting from the other side of the big pond.💪

I bought one Chris ! What a great knife, came hair shaving sharp out of it's box. I have used the Jassco spray to remove about 99% of the coating, and I am thinking of not sanding it. The steel grey look is kinda cool to me. I may do the shiny thing later on . I bought a WorkSharp too ! You are costing me a lot of money.

Love my BK-9 and even added a bottle opener with a grind on the spine and the 90* for fire steels ! A little heavy , but it is a heavy duty knife and would not trade MINE for a new one ! I still use the cloth sheath and even ordered a cloth sheath for my BK - 2 :) Marine Sgt. Vet from the 70's and this would have been my goto field knife ! OOOHH RRAAA !

You talked into buying both the bk 7 and 9 and I love them both. The bk 9 has become my main field knife and I absolutely love it. Sure it's not a one tool for all solutions blade but when pared up the the bk14 I have not found a task that they were not up to in the field from processing wood to butchering a dear or wild hog.The bk9 is a beast but handles like a much smaller knife.

Hey Chris i thought that you should know about something called the skate mate. It is primarily for sharpening hockey skates to a 90 degree angle. It is $20 on amazon and i really think that you should check it out. I have tried it on a couple of my crappy fixed blades and was not displeased. It leaves an edge perfect for striking ferro rods. On the inside it is just simply two adjustable sharpening stones and it is also very small and compact.

Hey Chris.. never commented on your vids before.. but i very much enjoy them. With that being said. Although the bk9 is not my fav knife. And btw it is one of them though. It is by far the sharpest knife out of the box ive ever felt... too sharp almost. I kid you not.... it was so sharp out of the box i could pop hair off my arm without even pressing the blade against my skin... the rigidity of the hair was all it needed. Ive never ever seen a blade so sharp. Not even my razor does that without tugging.

If Becky and Jessica work for you it is the right choice, you match the knife to the person not the person to the knife. I have Trailmaster's and an RTAKII both are good knives but i prefer to use the CS Recon Scout it just feels right in my hand. If i get the chance to pick up a secondhand BK9 or BK7 i will, if it suits me i'll keep if not i'll trade or sell it. Thanks you fr all the time and effort you put into your videos and review work, take care God Bless.

I dont like full flat grinds either except in the kitchen. Its good for slicing tomatoes and is good for cutting meat but not for wood . All the knives I carry in the field are scandi saber or convex and if I want a skinning knife that slices extremely well I get a hollow grind . Machetes are an exeption if its for shrubs and grass

I have the BK7 and 9 and I love them both very much so. I have a complete Bug out bag that weighs only 10-13 pounds. I ALWAYS have my BK9 attached to the big pocket on the back and I carry my BK7 on my belt which I strictly use for utility and cutting purposes only, I know it can Baton wood and everything but that's why I carry my BK9 because it does the heavy work like batoning and chopping big branches. I laugh at guys who only use their one knife for everything! That's how you end up with a broken or dull knife, in a survival situation you can't afford to do that. I also have a Mora in my bag as well along with my Surge. I also carry a Gerber Freeman folder too for a lot of quick utility purposes in the small pocket of my bag. I also carry a Case 365-5 SS Hunter for only my food slicing needs and it rocks. I love the Becker knives because they are light and manageable to carry and are pretty much indestructible. My knives stay sharp because they all have their own duties they perform efficiently, rather than rely on one knife to do it all which is STUPID!!!!
@madgurkha3687

Fantastic I would say it is better than my trailmaster in o-1 but I would also say that my trailmaster bites a bit better on chopping and I would say probably a tie on splitting power because the coating on the bk9 slows u down and so does the ffg but the trailmaster kills batons much much much faster on the trailmaster I've honestly broken both knives and had them sent in for warranty and both companies gave me new knives after using the hell out of them so great experience. I'd go with the bk9 over trailmaster just because it doesn't have a guard that is just a bit cumbersome at time... Oh yeah and like a $40-$50 price difference

Good to see Becky again but it reminded me that you where going to do a long term review on the Tahoma Field Knife. I know you covered it in BBOB2 and your purchase of the un-sharpened swedge model but I haven't seen that one out and about in while. Maybe do a comparison with the Becky? And btw, the segment you did on the SP50 is the reason I did not pick up any of the Ontario GenII blades, love the steel (5160) but if the handle isn't (ain't for those in the south) right then the knife not worth a purchase...Thanks for keeping me from an expensive mistake!

The nice thing about the BK9, is that it is a large knife that chops well, but still feels more like a knife than a chopper. The balance of the knife is nearer the hand than a lo of the BK9's competitors.

My two favorite shtf knives are my bk7 and my bk9...the sheaths that came with them blow old donkey Shlong so I had azwelke make taco style kydex sheaths for both..the bk9 I carry on my belt behind me in a scout carry method...the bk7 I carry with the hybrid kydex and leather belt loop in a traditional belt carry method...I trust my life to both these blades....in a non gun, hand to hand combat or self defense situation the other guy is screwed...so far for the price,there is nothing on the market better i have found for the money that fit the survival,hunting, Bushcraft,and combat situation than the becker knifes...I have many years of experience with knives...if you are on the fence about getting one of these beautiful and super customizable blades...don't hesitate...you will find that if it came down to shtf...your other blades would be a memory....if there could only be one...for me it's a Becker.

I have a BK9 and I think it's a great knife. The only thing I don't care for are the handles. I even have a set of micarta handles and the biggest complaint I still have is that I can't have a forward lanyard hole. I like a forward lanyard hole on my big knives as I feel it gives me more control. If the BK9 had a forward lanyard hole it would probably be in my top 5 big knives.
@MichaelMixson
@MichaelMixson 10 лет назад
take a look at the tops silent hero then grind the handles away from the little drop down part then you can drill out that little "nipple" and bingo there is your forward lanyard hole if you take it to a machine shop they could do it in a matter of minutes and probably wouldn't charge you more than 20 bucks just have a good picture of what you want!!!!

I had a few Beckers fail here in Alaska. Sorry to say I actually do use my knives for a serious amount of time. Not a RU-vid video or something you had to modify to make it what you consider a worthy knife. I will stick with Swamp Rats or other customs I have. I do not like Cold Steel or Tops knives. They also have failed miserably. Glad you like your knife ... I have had good luck with Halfbreed blades as well. No way would I ever turn back to another failure about to happen named after Becker.

PREPAREDMIND101 I agree haha My 9 has taken much more then the 7 has but overall I also think it's my fav large fixed blade for the price and quality you can not beat it

Brandon Sweere I had two hands full of paper cuts after wrapping the handle on my BK9 and its so sharp I didn't realize it was happening till I saw little blood spots on the key board that and breaking batons is how Beast got his name!!!

Agree with full flat grind blades for chopping. I just don't trust it. Saber grind on knives longer than 7" in my opinion. I have the BK9 and the Ontario SP51 which unfortunately is discontinued. However, the SP51 is a beast. The saber grind, 5160 steel and 1/4" thickness is pretty hard to beat. The only downside to the SP51 is that it doesn't have the full width handle tang like the BK9 has. But I also don't like the skeletonized handle they did on the BK9 and they should have kept it a slab like the Ontario RD6 and RD7. That stripped look is pretty nice. Does it rust easily? I mean it shouldn't matter, I guess, because all of my knives have a coating of mineral oil all the time.

I would still go with the Bk9! The steel 1095 Cro-Van is a better choice for knives that 1070 that Condor uses!It just is a well rounded multi functional knife! And it damn looks good!

When I got my bk9 it was shaving sharp out of the box. After chopping a bunch of wood it was still shaving hair off my arm.

Same thing with my Ontario SP-50. Although I'm starting to think the hollow grind might be a better splitter - my 50 ain't leaving me.

I prefer the Junglas myself. I'll admit to never owning a BK9, but when I handled one I didn't like the handle. Much prefer the ESEE handle. Of course, just my opinions. And you know what they say about those.

What's the advantage of putting a full 90-degree spine on as opposed to just flat notching a spot for using a fire steel?

Great vid as always man. Love my BK9. It's even grippier with the optional micarta scales. It feels like a shorter knife when I use it, just because it's that comfortable and well designed. I'll never get rid of mine.

totally agree about full flat grinds. they tend to want to slice rather than chop. they just don't send the wood flying like the becker. i'm thinking also that full flat grinds would bind up more when batonning because their spine is the fattest part of the blade. i think Nutnfancy needs so much wd40 because he always uses full flat grind knives.
