You definitely steered me towards the Bk7. I like knives for combat and can be used for yard work, and it definitely fits the bill. Used to have the Ka-bar USMC but I returned it, paid a bit more and got the 7. I'm very happy with it. Got it ready for camping with micarta scales, a Survivorcord lanyard and a skull bead. It makes a great pair with my modified Cold Steel Trail Hawk. I keep a Mora 612 Classic in my pack for the more delicate applications.

I like the knife. I did some mods on my BK9. Changed out the handle. Added a choil. And cut a piece of 1095 to fit in the back handle space so I can drill a bow drill socket. But I also ordered some 1/2 round steel stock. So I may weld a piece of that to the 1095 insert for a bowdrill socket and fit the handle to the socket. Idk. I'm still modifying it. Oh and I profiled the edge back to 15%. And I leather strop it to a mirror polish. I'm cutting the Thanksgiving Turkey with mine!

I finally purchased a BK7 due to my discontent with my other knives. I added Micarta scales and have a "Kryptek Mandrake Kydex Sheath" By C4 Industries. Killer, feature rich, sheath by the way. Thanks for the recommendation! This knife is what I was looking for. I have been thinking about grinding off that thumb ramp but its not really in my way at this point.

1. thank you for the video. 2. I have a unit somewhere. 3. The usual challenge is to find a knife that: a. is sharp enough out of the box; b. has a sheath that doesn't rate throwing away; c. does not have to be modified to be functional. Especially for a person who does not know how to sharpen or modify a knife. That describes most people, and not myself. There actually are very few on the market. Moreover, if the knife is too big, it will not be carried. Such is why you recommend knives in the 4 inch to 5 inch blade length. Such is why I recommend knives in the 5 - 5.5 inch blade length, although I have a pile in the 4-5 inch blade length.

If that “thumb ramp” was backed up an inch or so, where it’s suppose to be. And if the handle scales covered it’s sides. It would be a proper thumb crotch support. To prevent painters cramps in men. Because our anatomy is different than women when it comes to the thumb. Specifically the movement of the carpal bone and ligaments. Putting it in its correct position will help with comfortability, and long term use. Schrade got that rite with the Schf 36,37,38. The Schf3N, Schf 51,52. And my favorite handle. The Schf9

Please do the tutorial series! :) You're really getting me into BK knives, but they are so overpriced here in Europe :( would you still recommend the BK7 and BK9 for a price equivalent of roughly $150? By the way, I think yours is one of the best survival stuff channels on youtube. You are confident but you don't take yourself too seriously, and I really like that. Greetings from Italy! :)
@preparedmind101
@preparedmind101 9 лет назад
You have to consider: The 1095CV Kabar uses in these knives is basically the exact same steel that was called "Carbon-V" back in the day when Cold Steel's reputation was at it's peak. It's tough stuff. I've been using this knife for 6 years and it's taken everything I have thrown at it. So is it worth it? I think so. What matters is how does it work? How does it feel/how comfortable is it to use? How trustworthy is the steel? And because it is highly modifiable and there are loads of aftermarket handles and sheaths for it you can make yours however you want it. Get bored, and you can swap out a different set of handles or something.
@TheVillain_ITA
@TheVillain_ITA 9 лет назад
PREPAREDMIND101 that's great to know, I actually thought 1095CV was just regular 1095 with a "marketing pass" on it. I'm just getting into survival and wilderness stuff and there's a lot I have to learn :) Thanks for your answer!

an hour or so of armwork with a hacksaw will take off the thumb ramp and the extended guard. OR you could get an angle grinder for like, 10 bucks at harbor freight (though with that you need to be careful not to muss up your temper) and cut down that time to like, 20 minutes. To get a straight spine, chock it up somewhere level and secure and take the angle grinder to the spin to square it off, or get yourself a good sharp file and draw file it flat. In case of the hacksaw/file, your expenses are about, 3 bucks if you already have the saw, if you go with the grinder, it's about 10-15. Throw in some sandpaper to clean it all up and you're golden yo. Hope that helps.
@buckeyebunnyhunter

You're thereason, they sold ol these BK7 till this day. You made this knife famous and you are right, it is one of the best knives on that size. I would easily compare it to a Chris Reeve Pacific, since they make them with super stainless steels and that removes the abilities of toughness and ease of sharpening , that the BK 7 has. That's enough as a reason, to compare it with pricier knives.
@samsmith8870
@samsmith8870 6 лет назад
Very cool but I'll stick with "Natasha" lol AKA the ESEE 6. At roughly 35 bucks more (now anyway) I just think it's a better all around value right out of the box. Comes with a better handle, sheath, coating, does finite work, and chops nearly as well despite being over an inch shorter. Plus it comes with an unconditional lifetime warranty to protect your investment. The only mod I felt it needed was to the spine because, as we all know, starting a fire with a knife is just freakin cool lol. That's just my opinion and we all have one :)
@preparedmind101
@preparedmind101 6 лет назад
People generally fall on one side of the ESEE/Becker line or the other. Personally, I can't stand the ESEE-6. I couldn't sell it fast enough. To each their own. That's the older style one. I think they've improved the handle ergos a lot. But I don't like full flats on most knives, especially the medium to large knives.
@samsmith8870
@samsmith8870 6 лет назад
I did the opposite and sold my BK7 to my brother who pimped it out and really likes it. It's just personal taste. The BK is a sweet piece of metal, just really wasn't what I was looking for and I didn't want to put the time and money into tweeting it to my liking. Yours looks great but you seem to enjoy doing all that. It's funny though, grown men naming their knives lol. Nice to know it's not just me :)

I don't know what they used to be like but the handle fits my hand well and it's grippy. A lot of people replace them with the G10 but I never saw a need. Could just be I have little Trump hands, who knows.
