First time listening to your channel, I needed to hear this today to give me reassurance in our plan which is similar to yours. Less than a year to launch, selling house now. None of family will understand our plan and think it’s crazy to be “homeless”.

It's OK to be crazy! Thanks for watching. Hope we meet you on the road.

As an old Navy officer and federal service academy grad, I too have logged the miles. Delivered a yacht to Spain in 1980 and living offshore since that decade. The beauty of those early years offshore was the strong dollar. Arriving Puerto Banus in 1980 I went to the bar, Salduba, for a glass of wine. In pesetas, it cost 55 cents US. When I sold my home there in 2002 the same glass of wine was now 5$. Following Seas

Isn't hiking and talking about retirement fun! Brian and I spent countless hours planning on the trail. We were so excited to have a plan and then be working towards it (it was a 7 year developing plan), discussing books we read (including yours), vlogs, blogs, etc. All that came to fruition this past fall and we have been full-time nomadic travelers for 6 months. Loving it!!

Your story is inspirational! I was able to retire early in December 2022 and am waiting for my younger kid to finish high school next year before setting out. In the meantime, I've sold my house and moved into a rental, and got rid of a lot of stuff in the process. I still have a lot more downsizing to do though. The wrinkle on the horizon is that my partner wants to have a condo in our metro area and just go on 3-week trips a few times a year because he's concerned about being able to get enough exercise and about losing touch with friends here. I, in contrast, keep picturing my boredom between trips and anxiousness to get back out and continue exploring the world. As far as exercise is concerned, I've explained that we'd be doing a lot of walking and that we could join a gym for a month at a time with each monthly stay. But maintaining friendships is harder to address. I figure that we could come back here for holidays and school breaks, but rent an AirBnB so we're not responsible for a place (and house plants) while away. If we're back at Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Year's, spring break, and a good deal of the summer, it seems like we should be able to keep friendships going. Plus we could sometimes stay in a different part of the US and thereby see more of friends who live in a different part of the country from where we are now. Do you have any advice on maintaining friendships and/or could you share how that went? (Perhaps this would be a good topic for a future video.) Sorry the complexities of the situation made for such a long comment!

Good comments. We've been able to maintain some old friends, but our interests have changed and we've made many new friends around the world. I think you have a good plan. Can't wait to hear about your travels!

@@EatWalkLearn If only my partner also thought that I have a good plan for maintaining friendships while traveling. He's not yet convinced. I'll keep trying though. I like the idea I've seen of using Facebook and Meetup to connect with ex-pats in different locations around the world as a way of making new friends along the way.
