This is just a little appreciation comment for Maureen and to CF. You truly broke down UX and UI in such a way that my paid Udemy courses could not. It truly gave me a foundation so that I feel a little bit more comfortable as I learn about the processes and figure out how to structure my learning :)

I'm studying ux design because I think it can allow me to have better income and secondly because I see the impact that the products created by this discipline have on the world. However, I think it does not fit with my more planning, orderly personality and that fact that I don't feel comfortable with uncertainty. Now I'm taking steps day by day to practice and improve the minimum details of the UX design process specially in research, ideation and testing which I think can match with me. Thank you very much for the video, it's really good.

It is an interesting topic, as for me, and perhaps for many other people UX design can be not good from the beginning. But after spending a time with current UX design of many popular products, you can start thinking - I can do much better, and it is true. So before deciding if UX design for you, think if you're satisfied with UX design of products you use a lot. And if you are not happy with UX design them, then UX design is for you.

Great video. Quick questions- do you think the industry is becoming over-saturated with workers in UX/UI? As over saturation increases competition, it makes it harder for current designers to find work, do you think now is a good time to start in the industry? Noticed just through general knowledge, peers, social media, that as of the last couple years, there’s been a BIG burst of people who have made a career change into UX.

I think the industry has seen a boom in junior/entry level designers in the past years, making the market more competitive. UX Designers will only be needed more in the future, which is also confirmed when you check job openings for more advanced designers. There's a huge demand for that. When you're trying to break into the field today, you'll need to navigate that competition and be aware of that. You need to make sure you stand out in the market. How you can do that, is what this video tells you. The market might be quite intense for juniors now, but has plenty of opportunity once you've gained some more experience.

Hi, I have been working as a graphic designer for more than 20 years. I have done 2 short courses and 2 projects of ux design. In this case do I need one year to become a ux designer? As of now I don't have any hands on ux design experience, and that's why no one is entertaining me.
@maureenherben

What I hope you take from this video, is that becoming a UX designer does not come with a set timeline. Some need 3 months, others need 3 years. What is more important is to focus on your craft and attaining and practicing skills you need for the job - if you feel you're not there yet, then you might profit from investing some more time in that :)

I have been researching jobs and companies that are hiring junior designers. It feels a lot of links are saying that the UX market is over saturated. Any thoughts on this?
@maureenherben
@maureenherben 2 года назад
Good question! The UX industry is booming and thus more and more people are interested in this field. That also means that there are more juniors hitting the jobmarket, so also more competition. I believe there will be an increasing need for UX designers in the future, as many companies are still really low in UX maturity (this means in how far they adapted and live design practices). The reason juniors find it difficult to find a job nowadays, is because even though there are many juniors designers, there are not that many that really stand out in the market. Many juniors follow the same standard case studies the bootcamps offer, which leads to portfolios looking the same. So to answer your question: is the UX market oversaturated? No. But for those who want to hit the market today, a cookiecutter portfolio is not enough anymore. You'll need to bring in perseverance, additional skills, well reflected case studies and a strong and unique portfolio.

You don't need to have a designing degree for this. All you need is to learn ux, ui design and built a good portfolio from scratch.
@uaskcred
@uaskcred 2 года назад
I really think you ought to stop calling yourself a product designer when all you can do is websites. "Product Design" is the profession of creating Products. Products are not only digital. For example, can you design a new type of ketchup? could you help a brand develop merchandise? Do you know the stages of 3D printing? Can you do a 3D model? Can you make a manufacturing process more efficient? If you answered "No" to any of these questions then you are just a UX designer which is not the same as being a product designer.
@careerfoundry
@careerfoundry 2 года назад
Hey and thanks for taking the time to comment. We'd agree that not all products are (or need to be) digital, but all digital products are still products. Product design relates to far more than websites, there are applications, services, and more, as product designers are usually involved in more over-arching business requirements such as marketing and delivery. To quote the article linked below "Despite the fact that both jobs require a high level of design skill, we can see that there is a higher level of decision making and business acumen required in the product designer job spec." We have an article on our blog where more of this is laid out: careerfoundry.com/en/blog/ux-design/what-is-the-difference-between-a-ux-designer-and-a-product-designer/
@uaskcred
@uaskcred 2 года назад
@@careerfoundry That's a very reductive view of "Product Design". Your definition is diminishing the work of great product designers who train for decades learning manufacturing processes beyond the simplicity of making an app or a website. Any airhead nowadays can call themselves a product designer when they are not. You lot are UX designers and you should keep it that way
@maureenherben
@maureenherben 2 года назад
@@uaskcred Hey there! Thanks for your comment - I can understand it's confusing, now that product design is both used in the context of physical products and as well as digital products. There are definitely differences and different skillsets required for physical vs. digital product design. In the context of this video, we focus on digital product design. In terms of job titles, I found that there are many different titles that refer to similar roles and responsibilities. For example, my jobtitles have been UX Designer, Service Designer and in my current company "Product Designer" though the tasks and responsibilities differ minimally. I think that also adds to the confusion.
