Very good point about checking your sources to check you're not just watching marketing material. I agree that finding out the cons of a career is absolutely vital. I went into teaching despite people warning me of the stress. Wow, they were not wrong, and the stress and long hours was in fact a million times worse than I imagined and I burmt out very fast which took years to recover from. I wish I'd never wasted time and money training to teach. Career research, work experience, work shadowing, honest conversations with yourself, journaling etc will all help us figure out the best career match for ourselves.

I also have a psych degree! And thinking of getting into UX. Everything you said resonated with me. I love psych but not enough to continue my education in it. I lovee technology, and honestly the more I look into UX design the more I’m interested. But I hear that the interviews are insanely long! I hate presentations lol But I’ll learn to get over my fear. At least for school projects where I had to present I found that being overly prepared for presentations is key! Helps one be a bit less nervous. After my degree I didn’t do anything related to psych. 2 yrs later I went back to school for marketing. Went for 2 semesters and then realized it wasn’t for me. But I took some helpful classes. Also I was able to Improve my presentation skills as every single one of my classes required students to do at least 3 presentations for each class! Anyway I’m not looking to go back to school again. Because I’m also a hermit lol definitely signing up for a bootcamp. This video was so helpful!! Do you have a video on what you do in a day as a UX designer ?

@holymason7
@holymason7 2 года назад
I think you got the job becasue you at least have a degree. A degree in psychology is still very useful for UX. This is because UX is still a young and new industry that there really is no degree made for it, except for human computer interaction which is not readily available in most colleges. Also for the average college dropout, you will be risking the idea of promotions as well. Often times, companies like to promote those with college degree. All in all, it took 4 years to realize this after dropping out, and i regret it.

Hi, could you tell me what kind of opportunities and skillsets being a UX designer could carry into the general field of design, for example physical product design?
@chadwickdewey
@chadwickdewey 2 года назад
Physical design would be something like Industrial Design. They both have UX design elements however industrial design is allot more technical and focused on manufacturing, human ergonomics, sketching, model making and allot of hard skills beyond ux but the fundamental human center design, design thinking and experience design aspect are transferable. I was formerly educated in industrial design and have worked in both fields without an issue hoping back and forth. But I do know allot of the hard skills of industrial design took me my full 4 year degree before I felt super confident in my skill set. But it’s not impossible to transfer without a degree. I know allot of interior designed and architects working in ID.
