I hate it. My brother-in-law and his girlfriend got ducks and let them go in a pond near their house. She thinks they flew away and he secretly thinks they were eaten by an animal (I forgot what kind of animal but I think it was a mountain lion or something). Which makes me sad because I even suggested to my husband that we should offer to take them, if they didn't want to keep them. I love my ducks and would've happily taken in two more, whether they got along with mine or not, I would've gave them their own space, if they couldn't integrate. From what I understand, though, they can't stay afloat for very long. Waterfowl have oils on their feathers that makes them repel water. Without the oil, feathers become clogged and drag the bird down. So chickens can stay afloat only for as long as it takes for their feathers to lose their pocket of air and absorb water.
