This gives me hope that we can be who we want to be! Just put in the work and keep grinding and someday, we’ll get there and we’ll be surprised that we actually made it!
I love it. This is one of the greatest things I've seen recently. You're demystifying this process soooo nicely! Also, showing how to get started without shame from any level and charge for your work, while I'm getting crazy perfectionist with my progress and not allowing myself to gain money and clients, because // according to myself // I'm not GOOD ENOUGH yet. Dzięki Asia! :)
I'm the one who asked about the visual metaphors :D Thank you Matthew for giving the practical advice, but Joanna answer was great - do it from your own experience! I didn't get it right away, but then I looked through her drawings on Instagram and it was 100% clear what she meant. Her posts are all visual metaphors - it looks as she is making a visual diary - every post has a symbol and a little story with it. And I love how raw and honest it is and it's a great way to practice representing different topics. I was searching for a way to practice that and now I found it, thank you both very much! The Futur did it again :D I have ideas for my next drawings already!
found this in my recommendations and clicked because the topic is very interesting to me was SO HYPED to see Matthew!! i love him for his organizing videos and didn't know he hosts streams!!)
really really appreciate this interview !!! Doing same thing again and again needs a certain kind of restrain on mind and it is indeed difficult...the clarity of your process is amazing ! thanks once again ! also, the interviewer is also very very impressive !! thank you to him as well.
I love how authentic and transparent you are!!! I am a self-taught illustrator and you inspire me so much to follow my dream and make it my career! Love your work! Stay awesome ♥️
This interview is quite inspirational and helpful for anyone who wants to make a career shift or wants to learn but is afraid to move forward. Thank you so!!!!
Soo helpful for aspiring illustrators! This has inspired me to keep on going and not focus on perfection from the beginning. Much love from South Africa
Loved your honesty and realness, thank you for making me not doubt myself and many others out there, I basically do the same in things i cant draw well, trace then apply my own vision and touch to it, and it makes me deliver what i have in mind, and by time one learns a few tricks and so on! Thank u, I really enjoyed watching this session :D
I really relate to this video. I am also trying to become an illustrator and a mental health advocate. Have been watching your videos all week Matthew and have learnt so much already - thank you so much :)
Wow guys thanks so much! You both are amazing, in creating such a warm and authentic athmosphere! So much to learn here on many levels. I totally agree on Joana having genius potential, and I think it´s because you allow to " feel into" things as you said. It seems you feel into sth and bring the intuitive wisdom into words , shapes and colors. Yay
This was a beyond impressive video !! there's so much amazing content that one video doesn't make justice !!! I love Joanna and her amazing personality that brings so much to her work but also you guys for putting all this content out there !! Really makes a difference and your guys are really changing lives! Thank you
the fact that shes make it so easy. makes me feel want to illustrate. but in the reality is really hard to join the industry when you dont have any graphic background. what should i do? ive been drawing and posting on socmed but is disheartening when there is no feedback
@The Futur Academy @Joanna How do you prepare the client illustration if they want to do prints of it? Do you do the illustration on CMYK file on Procreate? what about resolution if the client wants to do Huge prints of the illustration?
Good question. Yes you can start with CMYK. Procreate allows you artboard as big as A2. If you need something bigger then you will have to draw each element separately and put it together in Photoshop.
Thank you for taking time to answering questions. I have another question. Have any of your clients asked you for an illustration in vector format? If so how do you approach it? And in cmyk projects have you had any problems if clients ask you to use pantons?
@@gecko6212 FOr CMYK you can set it up in Procreate. You could then pick the right Pantone colors for it manually if you have the Pantone book. I don't have one so I would just be candid with my client that they will need to double-check with the printer. I was also commissioned vector work that was used for animation. I drew it in Procreate and then tried to convert it to vectors. It took me 4 hours and I promised myself, never again! I am not good at it and I don't enjoy it. Next time, I drew it in Procreate and paid 20$ on UpWork to have someone draw it with a pen tool for me over my illustrations. Everyone was happy :) You could also try Illustrator for iPad or a free app Vectornator to draw right away in vector format.
if something is made taking parts from different earlier designs, will it be illegal? even if nothing new is added into it, just customizing the different parts from the other disigns
If you just reuse someone else's work as it is, yes it is illegal. As an alternative, you could ask the artist if it is OK to use those parts and give the credit.
Hey Matthew, love the video! But, your microphone is mounted backwards making it hard to hear you. The knobs on the Blue microphone should be facing you, just a suggestion for your audio guys.
Any chance that you could learn how to do webcasts and, move the microphone out of view. It's blocking half of the screen!! And removing your headphones would also be good. It just doesn't look very competent/professional.
