Ok, so we got some juicy backstory to my art life going on here, as well as LOTS of old art on display. I lie, it's not juicy, but it's so convoluted that it's a miracle I ended up here!
Main takeaway from this video is follow the dream, even if it takes you decades to get there. I'd love to know if anyone else has experienced the same sort of "revelations" that I have!

i’ll be turning 28 in july and this is the video i needed to become more serious about my art. as a child, i looooved drawing. i studied interior design in college and took several art classes, which i enjoyed but life got in the way and now i find myself in a regular office job that i absolutely hate. i need more art in my life and will strive to make it my job for life. i found your videos because i got procreate and needed some tutorials but this video has made me subscribe. thank you!!

Life has this funny way of keeping our passions dormant whilst we focus on more traditional responsibilities. I've always found it interesting that the first thing I would cut out of my life to "make space" was my art, despite the fact it's the thing that kept me the happiest? It's like an itch that needs to be scratched though: it becomes more and more unbearable the longer you hold out, until you give in and realise "why didn't I just do this sooner?" You clearly know exactly what you want, which is amazing; because not many people are sure, or are too scared to take the leap of faith. Set your mind to it, and this WILL be your job for life. I'm really glad this video was helpful, and thank you very much for subscribing!

I'm about to turn 32 in July and I resonate with your story so much; specially the part about being impatient and wanting to draw what you want instead of doing fundamentals first. I'm so happy for you that you made this decision and I wish you all the success in your future career 😊

Thank you so much for this! I think the older you start at something, the more you feel like you don’t have as much time (hence the impatience). It’s a tough mindset to break since time can only move forward!

Thank you for this talk! Your Pedro looks amazing I really like him too ❤ I'm almost 40 years old and I'm trying to learn how to draw in digital, it's taking forever and also I don't have a tablet so I do it with a mouse and in my spare time because I'm a mother too, I do my best 😂 xo
@lornakelleherart
@lornakelleherart Год назад
He's just an ANGEL. And thank you, I just love drawing him...like, all the time. It's hard to learn with a mouse, and I guess not all that intuitive since it's not mimicking the natural drawing movement! Beginner digital tablets these days are extremely affordable compared to 10+ years ago, and if it's something you can invest in; I would highly suggest it. You'll see huge improvements very quickly at the beginning. As for the spare time part due to motherhood...I feel that too! There's only so many hours in the day, right? You're doing a great job, mamma; don't let the passion for drawing die

Thanks for making this video. I’m in my early 40s and just now trying to get back into art. I’m truly afraid of putting my work out there because of all the unnecessary hate on the internet. You do beautiful work. Keep bringing your positivity to our community. 😊

I’m really happy to hear that you’ve gone back to art! It’s one of those things that you can never get too old for! I understand what you mean about being afraid, but even if you’re drawing just for you: that’s a win. Thank you for this wonderful comment, and I’ll strive to keep doing my best! ❤️

@@hugoamorim7151 You're still very young, Hugo. If I look at the art I was making at 22 (I wasn't, but I know my skill level around then); I also would have thought back then that I wasn't good enough, and that's the thing that held me back. That's 15 years ago for me! I think, deep in your heart and your gut; you'll know if it is something that you can make a go of: if you have the determination.

I'm 33 rn but I decided to keep art as a hobby because I don't think I'd be able to support myself. Freelance isn't really my thing. Also, as a side note, you might want to look up hyperfixating, special interests and ADHD if you haven't before because a lot of what you described is something I related to

Dear Lorna, found your account few days ago and fall in love 😍 With your art and you as person. I feel sooo much all you said in this video. I‘m a little bit older 46 and quit my job too, because I want improve my art skills, find my style and someday make money as an artist. It took me so long to allow myself to call myself an artist, but now I’m more comfortable with this. My problem is my fear… my fear for failing, to be not good enough, don’t find my style and so on… I know it’s irrational, but the fear is still there. I started on Instagram 2013 (after blogging for 6 or 7 years) as a creative handmade stuff account and have grown very fast. It was and amazing time to grow. All work a few years up I closed my small business because I was so burned out of doing the wrong thing in my life. Then I was going to work for 5 years in a travel agency and burned out a second time (of course 🙄🙈) My hubby was worried more and more and told me to quit my job. This was definitely the right decision, but in the meantime, more and more months are flowing, I feel more pressure to improve faster. I think you know what I mean. I absolutely don’t know where to go with my art. Don’t know who I want to be as an artist, and of course I lost followers on Instagram, 7K I think… because the followers want see my „old stuff“… Now Instagram rated my postings so low, so it doesn’t feel good. I‘m thinking about starting over again, here on RU-vid maybe with a small channel. But long story short, thank you so much for this video. It flows directly into my heart ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It can be SO difficult to take that leap of faith when you are a certain age, because of course there's usually a lot more responsibilities that comes along with it. It's so important to remember though that life is far too short; the more we're worrying, the less time we spend enjoying doing the things we love (in terms of life in general, as well as career choice). Even though you might be feeling a little unsure of yourself right now; especially with your following, you're obviously still sure that this is what you want to do with your life as a career. Making that decision is always the hardest part, and you've done that! Just take things day by day and see how it goes, once I started thinking that way, I felt so much happier and I've blossomed. You luckily (like me), have your husband's support, so this is the perfect opportunity to find yourself: give yourself the time and grace to figure it all out, and it will happen. When you do what you love, it'll show through in your art, and the rest will follow. :)
