I thought everyone understood that we had no offensive line and the kid wouldnt play this year because the team is still a draft away from being able to play
@tonystarks7722 nor will they be with an offensive line with so little talent and experience. Yet these mouth breathers in the media kept telling everyone we need this reciever or that. They are a bottom 3 team again, as is Normal in a rebuild year 1.
Bedard’s take on Maye makes no sense. How can you say going into a draft pick that a kid is a project and then freak out about him “not being ready” on August 13th? He’s saying he doesn’t think he’ll be ready by mid-season to start, well again, he’s a developmental QB and the team’s O-line is brutal. There’s absolutely no reason to throw the kid out there this year if he’s raw.
He literally said he thinks they mis-evaluated HOW FAR away he is. As in they saw him as a project but after tearing down the first wall they found mold and leaking pipes and now it's a MUCH BIGGER project. It is completely valid to react to that and have an opinion. This is why myself and others were citing the hit rate of top 10 QBs as very very very low in April and pleading the team to take Alt or Harrison.
@@donywahlberg Exactly! Opposite of someone like Mahommes. Also thought to be a project, then they saw him in practice & knew they struck gold and could accelerate.
Also bragged over the summer "I said they were bad when they were winning superbowls" as if that somehow makes him right. He is the perfect Felger guest and a massive cvnt
What's scary is that Bedard had similar takes during the MattyP as OC era. And we all thought he was blowing it outta proportion. But he was 100% accurate on his assessment. And now this. Well....on the bright side, we can look forward to a top 5 pick in the draft now. Wonder if its gonna be an OL or Shedeur Sanders. 😀
Everyone knew he was a project going into this . Why are they shocked he's not ready . Let him sit for a year a learn . The offensive line sucks and that will hold everything back especially developing a ne QB . It's the preseason...give it time .
i know, they change their minds every minute. makes you appreciate tom brady and belichick being able to tune them out. cause if you react to everything these clowns say they'd be spinning circles
@yohanonshine4664 I don't know why zappe is here ,it could be just a showcase to trade him or an insurance in case Jacobi gets hurt in the preseason 🤔 but idk . But to call Milton, the potential best qb is very premature
Years experience in their role with the Patriots: Head Coach 0 years, Offensive Coordinator 0 years, QB coach 0 years, Offensive Line coach 0 years, GM 0 years. They shopped the discount shelf for coaches, players, and personnel. What exactly are the expectations?
What part of the OL is terrible do yall not fucking understand??? It doesn't matter how good Drake is when he won't even have time to throw the ball...
Jim stick to music. We all agreed the offense line needed lots of help going into the draft! They tried to middle it by taking Polk at 34. Once you took Maye your next pick had to be a left tackle. Maye should sit all year and take a left tackle in next years draft! We are rebuilding!
Yup! We knew this year we had 3 big holes to fill; and likely couldn't fill all 3 in 1 year. We drafted QB, WR, then 2 O-linemen; trying to address all 3 areas. We have a promising QB (someday), promising WRs, and we still need O-line help. If they'd taken Joe Alt in R1, or not taken a WR till the 3rd round; these guys would be screaming "Why didn't they get any weapons?"
Why is this shocking? We all knew that Phillys front 7 is arguably the best in the league... plus, they added Byrce Huff from the Jets, who adds another layer of defensive playmaking. We couldn't do anything last season against them.
@@JohnnySack16hard for me to believe Jacoby will only win 3/17 even with a bad o line, he will win you a couple more. Obviously he’s not great by any standards albeit, solid journeyman.
We’re in this place offensively because of Bill. Defense is not the problem. Defense was the only thing Bill was good at. Tom Brady had to leave the Patriots because of Bill’s attitude toward the offense. Keep that offensive cancer away from this anemic offense.
The guys say they are professionals and cannot understand that the reconstruction process will be long and painful. It will take at least two more years for us to be competitive. A playoff in the best case scenario in just 5 years and if drafted correctly with minimal error. The process is long.
Doesn't have to be. Two years is plenty to flip a roster. Problem is the Pats just keep going backwards and making the same mistakes. So at the current rate of improvement the timetable is like 100 years-never.
I mean, it's a bad season by his standards, but Brady still passed for 4,000+ yds, 20+ TDs, and led the team to a 12-4 record. If that's a bad season, then there are a lot of QBs who have bad seasons currently starting.
...like a very good NFL quarterback who was way better than he had any business being at age 42? IDK what point you thought you were making here. You really think any of the QBs on the current roster are gonna look anything like 2019 Brady?
@@yourfellowman11 It was one of Tom's weaker seasons, and actually the defense was carrying most of the load during 2019. They were snuffing out bad teams left and right, but the offense didn't have the firepower and protection to beat good teams and advance in the playoffs. I don't blame Brady for wanting to leave.
This is how bad 98.5 is. 3 different shows had totally different views of today's practice. People don't worry until the real games begin. Seems like the only people that forgot that they're in a rebuild. Is Boston sports media radio.
Where is Alan Iverson when you need him. Are we talking about practice? What didnt we know after this practice that we didnt know before? Great reporting....
I know NE wanted to get a pair of WR's but they needed the O-line for anyone to get the damn ball. Not to mention why are they chasing trades like BA when I'm sure there's a couple of linemen they could make a deal for, especially if you want to trade Judon
@@tonytheg6612 Hey! Not just looking at the team, but the schedule as well, I don't see them winning more than four or five games. It blows my mind this is the third year in a row they have not taken care of the O-line. I think the offense will be better-guess it would have to be-and I think had they kept Jones he'd have been better this year, but too much taint on him here. I like Jacoby, he's not the best, but he balls. I think Maye is going to be okay, these guys like to hate on everything. Let's see....Oh, and trade Judon, he's too old to be part of the future, he's a distraction, trade for a pick and stock up for next draft
The offensive line currenly doesn’t have an nfl starting caliber tackle on either side and the skill players are still a bunch of 2s and 3s except Stevenson whose arguably a top 10 to 15 back and they’re criticizing Maye for struggling the situation he’s in now is terrific and it’s only been one preseason game and they had a joint practice against one of the best defenses in the nfl people need to slow their roll and give the kid time develop he’s still just 21 years old and has made some highlight plays throughout practice give the kid some time and we’ll see what we have in him
The issue with the offense is in my opinion that it’s the offensive line. It’s been the main issue for years and the moves the previous GM made haven’t helped either. They cldnt all be fixed in one off-season. Shld they have done more absolutely. But my guess is they really address it in the 2025
This shit is so entertaining I love hearing all the panic every day and people losing their minds they don’t know what it’s like to be a regular nfl football team. The reaction on this show makes up for the Patriots being bad it’s pure comedy. You guys better buckle up.
Think about this the top two players on the offensive line are an undrafted center in David Andrews (2015) and Mike Onwenu 6th round pick (2020). So in nearly a decade they have only been able to hit on 2 yes 2 players on the offensive line. Sidy Sow may work out, and Mafi is looking like he maybe on his way out. Hopefully Wallace and Robinson pan out but thats to show how bad of a position the o-line has been in for some time. Hopefully Wolf can start to get this O-line some talent next year and possibly add some pieces during roster cut down. But its shaping up to be a long season.
Bedard drank the Kool-Aid appearing with the two most blood thirsty, negative talking heads covering the Pats. Then tries to pull it back on his show with Cattles. Love the calm, analytic Greg Bedard reviewing tape and analyzing players. That guy was not on Felgar and Mazz. Lazar absolutely smoked Bedard expressing the negative but giving context and rational. That riff Bedard went on suggesting Maye was a mistake may have made Felgar happy but was both pre mature and uncalled for.
Gotta gear up and be patient - no free agents are coming to the Patriots for a bit - they will have to overpay for marginal players. So the patriots need to hit on some draft picks and try & protect Maye
I think it’s fair to criticize the team - ideally they should have grabbed Alt at 3 and known they’d be bad next year for a QB …but who knows next year’s class. I’d sell everything outside the rookies for future picks and maybe a couple defensive pieces - just try and get as many lottery tickets as possible
I had mixed feelings about Belichick leaving. The defense was still top 10 and he was doing well with drafting and scheme on that side of the ball. He needed to be kept away from the offense though. His draft picks on offense were abysmal, his pickups in free agency were more misses than hits, and his coaching staff decisions were embarrassing. If it were possible to take away his GM role and have him focus on coaching things might have been salvaged. Oh well, on to the Mayo era.
I was ok with Bill leaving. Sometimes change is needed. I just didn't think Kraft would gift the team to a bunch of bozos that have no idea what they're doing. I thought Kraft would actually find a good HC for the team and not just his buddy. It is what it is. He deserves whatever trash this team puts out from now going forward.
@@_sweetchuck_ The Patriots will definitely suck this year and Mayo won't get fired over it. I do agree that it would have been better to have a bigger change at HC. The Patriots have been using in house guys for 20+ years now with virtually no upper level coaching positions being filled by people from outside the organization at all until this year's addition of Van Pelt at OC. Mayo is a "Player's coach" while Belichick was a disciplinarian, but other than that they supposedly share the same defensive focus and principles as Mayo learned his craft from Belichick and other in house guys like Matt Patricia, Steve Belichick etc. A problem with finding and landing a hyped up and coming coach from another organization is that a lot of guys don't want to be Head Coach in New England. The roster is weak with a bad offense, huge question mark at QB, and Kraft is notoriously stingy with the checkbook so landing a big time free agent becomes less likely. Why would an up and coming HC prospect or veteran HC want to come to New England just to lose, get fired in two years, and tarnish his reputation all at the same time?
As in, “be careful about improving offense”… Its only more clear that Bill was seriously neglecting the offense. Easier and easier to see why Brady left as the years went on. I couldn’t be more happy he’s gone. Without a 1 in a million offensive savant(TB12) to lean on Bill is just glorified DC with way too much power.
You can't rebuild a offensive line in one offseason. I have no clue how they're going to accomplish fixing this line for Maye to start in a year or two.
Belichick let Thuney/Mason walk...? needs to be asked...Are the Patriots Ownership/Mgmt intentionally destroying the franchise? What gives you any indication otherwise...
We just did a tank last year. O Line wasn't much last year. Could have drafted a top left tackle after Marvin Harrison at #3. There O line is worse now? And we have four QB's who aren't going to start anywhere....so we're going to tank again? No QB, no o line....should've kept Mac, he would've gotten us 4 wins.
The Patriots knew this offensive line was dead last a year ago instead of getting a tackle in the 2nd rd they drafted a wr. Owenu is the only one a top ten player at his position the tackles are rejects cast off from other teams. Chris Simms, J.T. O'Sullivan, and Kurt Warner all said Maye was a project with physical tools he's going to need time
We’re in year 1 of a complete rebuild TF do you expect. I can’t even listen to these guys anymore. We are practicing against a Super Bowl caliber team offense and defense. We have alot of young player. Be patient everyone, we got spoiled for 20 years. Dose of reality if you don’t like it go be a fan of someother teams
It irritates the shit outta me that we wasted a 3rd overall pick on a kid who absolutely sucks when the Pats are gonna have a better pick next year. The least they could do was get whatever QB they draft in 25 some fuckin help.
Fangio defense is death for guys like Drake who Can struggle to come off his pre-snap read when the picture changes on him post-snap. That is Fangio’s defense.
It is good Maye is getting reps with the 1st team and his play is no surprise to NFL analysts who had concerns about him ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c2kcSTMQ2Ts.html. As to Bedard questioning the pick, he was part of the group shutting down the idea of the Pats picking JJ McCarthy when Wolf brought him in for interviews. Perry was leading the charge on this one with Curran backing him up along with Bedard, Nonetheless as a Pats fan, I hope Maye gets reps against the Eagles in the Thursday practice, or game. Hopefully he shows he can do it, If not, need to focus attention on Milton getting reps in the 2nd half of the Eagles game and the last pre-season game. The line up for the season is going to be Brissetts to start followed by Zappe and Milton & Maye relegated as the 4th QB, assuming Maye plays terribly the remainder of the week.
The New Jersey Jets are in the Division failing a Sign & trade with H. Reddick. NEP will win games. Good time to start early, looking at possible J. Moore OL Award Winners like W. Campbell (LSU), K. Banks (Texas) or T. Ratledge (UGA).
How does a guy who is "miles away" in his NFL development get drafted so much higher than, say, a JJ McCarthy taken 10th, and looked so good and comfortable in his game, or a Bo Nix who was the 6th QB taken at #12 and seems to have it all figured out? How was Drake's assessment coming out of college screaming No. 3 Pick!? so wrong?
Jacoby will not want anything to do with that mess. He faked a hammy last year to avoid playing the last 2 games. As a Commanders fan I completely support his business decision.
its almost as if they shouldve signed and drafted some OL instead of spending no money on the O line and wasted mid round picks on those randoms who dont even start
I cannot fucking fathom how we are still having these same discussions about the oline. Moving this guy here, this guy out here, maybe try this guy here😤.... YEARS!!!!! WE HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS CONVERSATION FOR FUCKING YEARS NOW!!!! HEY! how about instead of moving bad offensive linemen to every position and trying them, while handicapping your decent linemen..... Just FIX THE FUCKING PROBLEM and sign/draft some ACTUAL fucking TACKLES 🤔🤔🤔 YEARS.
So far, it looks like they have another defensive minded HC who has no idea what to do on the offensive side of the ball. It's disappointing that they didn't seem to be anywhere near as aggressive in looking for O-linemen as they were with WRs. So, as we saw last week, at least if Mays is on the bench, they won't ruin another QB.
This would all be worrisome. But. We did draft our future franchise qb this year. It just wasn’t 3rd overall pick drake maye and that’s gonna take these fools a second to let that sink in 🍻
The problem is literally everything from top to bottom. They would have been better off keeping belichick for one more year and having Mayo as assistant head coach or something
@deaconlambeaux2716 Mayo has been the assistant. You couldn't have Bill come back as the coach and GM again. The damage done to the offense is going to take a while to fix he went years ignoring skill players at WR and tried to get WRs on the cheap and missing on Tackles
Hey bedard should we just forget you didnt approve of drafting rob gronkowski? How can we listen to you and think its a professional opinion after a miss that huge???
this is why I said, take the additional picks or take the best wide receiver in the draft. instead they took the 3rd best QB with the third pick. think about that. and judging by how they treated belichick I think they just wanted Maye and didn't do the evaluation. Bill never would have done that. he'd had taken multi picks this year and next. You aren't one pick away you are picks away. drafts away. they learned nothing by watching bill for decades. I think they really believe that tom Brady was coaching the team.
It's mind blowing. Throughout NFL history, how many times has the 3rd QB picked become a franchise player? There's 1983 and 2004...not sure if there's anything else. I'd get it if all the Pats needed was a QB, but with pick #3 the respective best player at several other key positions is still on the board.
I was there. This guy is being over dramatic to the max. It was hard to tell who did good/bad. Most of the practice they were working on presnap/adjustments. Most athletic players on the field were all on the Pats.
