We glass bedded the action on the Savage Model 11. We only glass bedded around the front lug since the rest of the action was bedded once before with the old lug and barrel. Using the York's wax worked much better then the blue stuff that comes in the kit from Brownell's. I would recommend using it.

About a hundred years ago I bought an Accuglas kit and bedded my Remington 700 in .30-06. It worked really well and made a market improvement in the grouping. A dollar bill still slides easily between the barrel and fore end after 45 years.

Looks like the wax works a lot better than the release agent lol . I once used shoe 👞 polish that worked a treat .I’m looking forward to the load development and accuracy testing 😀. Cheers 🍻

Joe Rhea suggested I check your channel out. Glad I did. I don’t do any long distance shooting at all, just a little 22lr with a 1941 Winchester 74. The rifle is pretty accurate but always looking for tips to learn something new. Thanks.

Hey Vaughn! I've be using DevCon 10110 as an alternative to ArcaGlas when I ran out. I've since not looked back less the client wants to match color. It's really easy to work with and the results look great. Paired with a strip of rubber pipe tape on the barrel to keep 1/4 inch barrel float. If you have experience with DevCon, would love to here it

Great video where do you remove the wood from The recoil area in a stock would it be in the front part or the rear do you have to go deeper also with a new recoil lug. thank you in advance hope to hear from you soon keep up the good work on your videos. Thanks ahead of time.

Wow, that was risky. I would have tested it on something to throw away. Brownell's release compound is good stuff. Never had a problem.

Would you recommend pillar bedding the Boyd’s stock or skip it and just glass bed it? I have one on the way now but I’m on the fence about pillar bedding it as well. It doesn’t add much to the cost and shouldn’t take much more time but I don’t want to do it if it adds expense with hardly any benefits.
@vaughnprecision
@vaughnprecision 3 года назад
I would only pillar the stock if your shooting a magnum like a 7mm REM MAG or a 300 Win Mag
@devenzang9550
@devenzang9550 3 года назад
Thanks for the advice! I’ll plan to pillar bed it as well! It’s a 7mm RM that may end up a 300 someday!

Do you use tape on the recoil lug to leave a little clearance, or just release agent for a tighter fit?
@vaughnprecision
@vaughnprecision 4 месяца назад
I’ve done it both ways. If the lug has a tapper on the edges then I don’t typically use tape.

With a 50/550 mix. It is not until you use most of one pot you realize how bad your guess is. Can be as much as 20% difference. A lot of waste.

This is an off-topic question do you have any experience with reloading the 300 Remington ultra mag? Because of the high pressures I am concerned with how many times you can reload a case should you full size or just next size? It has so much pressure that even the store-bought ammunition is flattening the primers anyways if you have any experience I would love to hear some feedback thank you

With new brass and full house loads two is the maximum. The primer pockets become loose. This brass is then used for reduced loads.

Good video, easy to follow along for anyone who doesn’t know how to re bed. I don’t understand what the purpose of the comment about “no petroleum product or any of that bad stuff”. I had really hoped our firearm community was still spared from the fear mongering of petroleum products in our business. I suppose it’s time to stop using gun oil/solvents and switch to ear wax and vinegar to clean that gun? Wax on cheese, petroleum product. Baby oil that millions use on their babies every day, petroleum product. It’s amazing how uneducated people are towards petroleum products. There is nothing wrong with them when used accordingly. Sugar kills more people and oil does and it’s funny because oil doesn’t kill the environment, people do.. I apologize for the rant but with the direction your president is taking you guys, it’s going to be one heck of a sad ride, especially for firearm owners.

I feel bad for a negative comment, it’s just this stuff has been bugging me lately. Small comments like this is what our governments feed off of and we lose our freedoms one by one.
@vaughnprecision

Petroleum isn’t bad, but I’ve found it can discolor wood and in some cases make a mess out of wood finishes. I use petroleum products to clean my guns all the time. But I’m very careful about what I use on wood.

Most petroleum based products also have an adverse effect on rubber. That is to say, it liquifies it. So if you had rubber grips or recoil pads or whatever, you won't for long.
