Rock rake's done a good job...👌 I often wondered about the ''why not put them thru' a crusher...?'' reasons... All you can do is keep bringing them upto the surface, clear them off & do a few final passes with a tractor & rock picker for the smaller stuff.
Yee-Haw..! We asked for it and Jeff is giving us it, a video on the new rake. Thank you sir. Oooohh boy Jeff, regarding installing the rip-rap on your property and waiting for the river to come to it. The statement, “there’s nothing they can do about it”…, well stand-by, I see some governmental over regulation coming your way… Great video, thank you for that little driving tour of the landscape. Thank you sir.
Good video! Enjoyed the geology tour and the political tour. We've got the same environmental "problems" along the South Platte River. And as a farmer I cringe at the thought of farming that ground. My moldboard plow has shear pins and I've peeled them off many times on shale rock.
2013 we had a slow moving "flood". It was interesting to watch the movement down the Platte River. We were in Sterling at the time and the water stuck around for about a week if I remember right... I think it was caused by snow melt and rain just like you had.
we have always used a rake mounted on the dozer blade. Always worked for us then we used a rock roller then just a rock bucket on the loader to pick up the wind rows
Time to trade the thumb in for a better spaced one. Like the crusher idea, rewelding the thumb spacing doesn't pencil out. If you change the thumb spacing does that screw up the thumb/bucket teeth match? Maybe you get a matched thumb for the rake that is wider to load more rock per swing...
Very nice and it looks to be made very well but that sucks your thumb hits. I’m looking for one right now for my machine but my machine is a bit smaller just a bit Volvo 140 Lol. I’m looking for a 6’ wide. I’m just curious why you didn’t go a lot wider on that big bastard.?
In like Flynn. Man are you really trying to date us old codgers. How many people have ever seen that movie in this day and age? It was a great movie as a kid.
At the end of the video when you walked up to the rake. It appears the top of thumb,at the pivot, would hit if the teeth did not??? Plus the shape of your thumb isn't much of a match to the shape of the rock rake. I dont feel a lot would be gained by teeth possible off setting. I assume their thumbs are a perfect match. It sure appears to be a well built attachment and you will soon be kicking yourself for not getting one sooner. 👍👍
There are a lot of geology uploads on RU-vid. "Snake River Idaho Geology" uploads by Shawn Willsey of Eastern Washington University (and others) explain gravel, rocks etc. of Southern Idaho.
How is that Bedrock rack holding up? I Was looking at a thumb from them for new Cat 317 I am buying. They are an exact copy of Cat thumbs. Was just curious of the quality of them? I have never seen one in person. They 1/2 the cost of a cat thumb..
Yup you needed to mention the thumb to the attachment company…super engineer guy would of crunched the numbers and..boom!…perfect fit!…sell it back and get the right one made up…worth talking to them about it.
Just be aware using rake with tilt ram completly puts a lot of leverage on the linkage and ram piston and internal end of spear. It has no protection of hydraulic bypass. It's almost like the linkage is not quite quite optimized for a rake.
G'day Jeff... Another cool vid, Sure looks like a lot of hard work picking all those rocks out , the new attachment seems to make the job a little easier for you . Respect....!
What would it cost to take to buy another thumb Indy engineer it and build a thumb the compliments The Rock rake they would close in between and is just as wide if not a little wider
I wonder how long it will take them to 'correct' the process you mentioned at 12:45. I swear they are looking for opportunities to add more bureaucrats and stifle work.
Jeff wins.... I think this investment is well worth its weight in rock. You may find yourself using it on things other then just rock. Stacking brush piles hehe just a idea
I just spent $400.00 for 4 landscape boulders that weighed 3500 pounds together. Can't find decent size boulders in NE Texas. We bring them in from other states. Grrrrrrrr.
😏 GREAT piece of equipment !!! Jeff, it looks as though the rocks you are working in are ( JUST A TAD "too small") ??? I ??THINK?? if the claw teeth did mate between, it might not make a big deal, IF those rock were a little larger ?? Then the thumb doesn't need to close that far??? ./... OR ... Do they sell a MATCHING thumb also??? LOOKS like a disaster waiting to happen, }GOOD LORD WILLING AND THE CREEKS DON'T RISE{ ( GLOBAL WARMING) THANKS FOR THE RIDE ALONG, and geology lesson. GOD BLESS 😍😍😍😍😍
I would think a skid steer with a closer spaced bucket/double thumb would be the quickest. Cheapest would be to make a set up for the backhoe you currently have.
@@TheSubatomicCheese As he stated, he's looking for a cost effective option. Sure, 5 guys with excavators with stair step sized rock buckets would do it with ease but who has that kind of money? They normally have 2 men with their set up from what I have seen. once it's loosened up by their excavator having something else pushing forward with a rock rake with a clam shell would not be that bad from my experience. If money is no object to you, sure you can find better options but doesn't work in the real world of small business.
r u f@#$%%@ng serious! rip rap 1for 3 administration?! what a sham!! r we heading in the right compass direction?! seems like you win again! appreciate it anderson construction team! well jeff i guess u inherited the video skills from dad!
There is a device called a power box rake or Harley Rake run by a skid steer or track machine to separate the rest of the rocks. It’ll leave it slicked of like a golf course.
