Placing the bedside commode within one step of a patient's bed is a great way to prevent falls at night when urgency hits. This is so much better than risking a slip by walking to the bathroom. Most people are groggy when waking at night anyway, let alone after they've had a stroke which can change midline orientation and equilibrium. Make sure they turn on a lamp, as well, not just use a night light. Poor lighting is also a contributor to falls.
