I can still recall clearly, walking home with my copy of 'New York Mining Disaster 1941'. I'd heard it once on the radio and went straight out and ordered it at my local record shop. Of course, in those days you rarely heard 'B' sides on the radio; and, so, when I got home, I put it on - 'A'-side first, of course. Fantastic, marvellous. A lot of 'B' sides were not very good, if one is honest; but, when I turned it over, we were presented with the superb 'I Can't See Nobody'. Surely, at least in my opinion, one of their very best songs, in a catalogue of great music.

@@generationgapreacts Hello, Ladies. Glad you liked my little walk down memory lane. I'm lucky that I have a very good recollection of things 50-60 years ago - just don't ask me what happened last year!! If I might suggest another wonderful 'B' side - the dreamy 'Got a Feeling' c/w the exquisite 'Monday, Monday' from The Mamas & The Papas. Using YT parlance, TMATP are a wonderful rabbit hole to fall down. Try 'Dancing Bear' - it is a not very well-known masterpiece. If you've ever visualized warm chocolate being drizzled over you, may I suggest the wonderful Pearl Bailey singing 'Hit the Road to Dreamland' from 1956, Gloria deHaven from 1950 (portraying her own mother) in the 1950 biopic 'Three Little Words' singing 'Who's Sorry Now'. Her mother passed away only weeks after the film premiered. And, another great song from the 40s-50s - a 22-year-old Peggy Lee singing with Benny Goodman and his Orchestra in the 1942 film, 'Stage Door Canteen' - 'Why Don't You Do Right'. Understated brilliance. Lots of wonderful mines to be tapped that don't often get reacted to.

Another Bee Gees 60s classic ! .. Aside from conveying emotion so well, the other word that always comes to mind with Robin's singing is "haunting" .. Even when the lyrics aren't about something sad, tragic, or bittersweet, he still has that quality in his voice .. Truly unique !

Robin's "I don't know what voice" was angelic. Sadly it was on loan to us humans way too briefly. Nobody before or since has sounded like he did, and as Barry said, he did it with no effort. When he passed he had accolades from people like McCartney, Tim Rice (of musical theater fame), Brian May of Queen and Roger Daltry of the Who who said "It was like he wore his heart on the outside"! That held note @4:57 was pretty amazing! When the fan got on the stage he never missed a beat. The Midnight Special version is also superb and just a little different. Do watch for your own enjoyment. Barry and Mo's powerful harmonies....to die for! BTW, love you two. What a lovely mother/daughter duo! 🙂 No offense but I loved Robin even more.

You are right about being under a spell. Robin was especially spectacular in this performance. This Melbourne concert is so great, and Mo is quite pesky in the medley trying to get his brothers to crack up. This is from the "Mr. Natural" tour. About a year later "Main Course" changed the course of their career. That might be a "not so subtle" wink about delving a little farther into that piece of magnificence. How about "Come On Over?" Their voices are so in sync you have to listen hard to hear Robin and Barry hand off the vocals. The chorus harmony is crazy good, even by Bee Gee standards, and the way Barry pronounces the word "body" still gives me shivers. Oh...and who doesn't love a little steel guitar and country vibe?

@Zeathree
@Zeathree Год назад
We don't have a definitive answer to what happened to make Robin smile and the audience laugh during the song. One explanation I heard was the overzealous fan trying to get on the stage. Not sure if Robin would be smiling about that however. He was tackled on stage by some drunk chick in New Zealand in 1969 while he was a solo artist and the whole experience left him a bit shaken up. The other explanation I heard was that the arena had posted they had a song place well on the charts. I don't know if that would account for the audience laughing. I have nothing to back up this next theory, but streaking was becoming a fad around this time. Maybe they had a streaker? Whatever it was, when they go back to a wide shot you can see both Maurice and Barry looking off to that side a couple of times, as if to make sure that things are ok. If you have ever watched any of the concert medleys from the 60's and 70's or live performances of "Morning of My Life" you will see Mo cutting up. Robin has great concentration and Mo rarely makes him crack a smile, so I think it had to be something extraordinary to grab Robin's attention and basically have him break character while he's singing. Its also extraordinary that whatever happened that caught him off guard, he never missed a note! While this is a love song it is a sad love song about love lost and he sings it with great expression and heartfelt emotion. If you check out the full length Midnight Special version of this song you can see how he owns all the emotions when he sings it.
@generationgapreacts

Another one I would like to recommend is "High Civilization" (they trade leads with Barry in that one) - but man, it is so different! Different beat, different sound, totally different instrumental arrangement, different feel - almost industrial, very tense and hard, and with a very socially charged meaning which sound almost prophetic now, over 30 years later!.. I always love watching your reactions. I have 2 suggestions for more Bee Gees if you are interested. Bee Gees - Medley One For All live 1989. This one is good because there is only voices and no music other than guitar. Maurice goofs around a little bit as well. Lastly. A song that was sung solo by Maurice is called Lay It On Me.

You should do a reaction to Wings of Pegasus’s videos of each of the Gibb brothers and how on pitch they are.

My Brain has been Bee-Geedified, an unusual predicament. I heard them say surgery may be needed to extricate the damaged brain matter. *-I just hope that while they're in there they blow out all the accumulated Dirt, and for goodness sake, do not touch any of those wild Ideas I got brewing in there.

I was a huge fan of 60s Bee Gees, not so much the disco era.

If you see the concert a girl in a white blouse crossed in front of the stage and then tried to get on the stage. Mo was looking at her too.

Robin was looking at Maurice and laughed because when Robin sings, " when I had a brain " Maurice made a gesture or said something like you still don't have a brain.
