I haven’t seen this repeated anything as much as “Little Britain”, but it still raises a chuckle with the Walliams & Lucas combo aided and abetted by Steve Furst. Jamie steps out of the straightforward interviewer role as Matt and Steve already provide that foil to David’s regal, caricature.

It's a very apt reference to the infamous Clive Anderson interview in which because the middle one [don't know his name] argued with Clive, famously saying "you're the tosser, mate !" and left, the others who didn't really have any problem with Clive still left because, as they said "they'd never done an interview without him" - thereby suggesting they can't speak without their brother's permission. Pretty funny, really.

This is one of a series of sketch shows called 'Rock Profiles' Jamie Theakston always doing the interviewing and Lucas, Walliams etc doing the pop stars. They did Elton John, MJ, Annie Lennox, Wham, The Prodigy and loads more. Most of them are on RU-vid. Check out the MJ and Elton John ones......... HILARIOUS. This show should have been a bigger hit.

Love this episode and all the other rock profiles . People who comment saying that it's a insult to the Bee Gees Rock Profile and other send ups are meant to portray the celebrities in a funny light and with characteristics that are not associated with them at all other wise why would it be funny. Robin Gibb once said in a interview imitations are the best form of flattery so I doubt the Bee Gees would of found this offensive

See Anderson Bee Gees for original. What really struck the nerve was Anderson suggesting they sold out by introducing the horrendous falsetto. Anderson was wrong as they never had any musical principals to sell out, they were always pop music chancers who hit on a formula that perfectly suited the nightmare world of 'disco'. Talking of nightmares, and hinted at re 'ego' issues, and always convinced of his greatness, what a joy number one son must have been for his siblings.
@shokk40

Nightmare world of disco, wtf are you even talking abou?
@gvgv3515
@gvgv3515 2 года назад
I admit disco started out as fun upbeat music that sort of fused rock and funk and r&b. Bands like Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, KC and the Sunshine Band come to mind. But then, Saturday Night Fever came out ( A GREAT SOUNDTRACK BTW), and it seemed like everyone was jumping on the bandwagon. Donna Summer, Michael Jackson, The Commodores,Commodore, The Ojays. By then any recordi g artist or wannabe was doing disco. For God's sake Ethel Merman?? Rod Stewart,Elton John, Doctoer Hook, Van Halen ( Dancing in the Streets), EDDIE MURPHY?? The Eagles,KISS??? WTF there!!! Countless 1 hit wonders, okay the Village People had 2. So I can assume that's what they mean by nightmare of disco.

@billywhitewolf Clive used a vulgar swear-word term by spelling it - adding an s in front of the word 'hit.' Do not try to excuse that. No matter what the BGs had said b4 that, nothing excused that. Sometimes people who r comedians get too used to being th center of attention & 'anything' for a laugh & all of that, but if they're trying 2 b a talk show host at th same time, they have 2 realize it's not all about THEM anymore & their little jokes & half-jokes. 'Anything for a laugh' is NOT okay.

@romeosdistress nah i'll disagree. i think it shows unity in the brothers. clive wasn't insulting the middle one (the older brother don't know his name). he was insulting the bee gees. so if one of them felt insulted enough to leave, then it was only right that all followed suite. how awkward would it have been if the third guy actually remained behind to finish the rest of the interview. the exit and the last line "i dont do impressions" was really undeniably sophisticated.

@zenalaus Clive's said a lot worse to many people and the subject has taken it in with a pinch of salt and in spirit of the show. Everyone knows it's not serious - jesus, it's a cheap gag. I mean, for goodness sake, what the hell did the Bee Gees expect going on the Clive Anderson show? It was stupid and petty to walk off, but absolutely ignorant in the first place not to realise what the tone might be.

@aldhous I understand if a particular comic is known 2 b a particular way on a regular basis then thats what a person who is familiar w/them would know theyre getting if they appear w/that comic. But arent u assuming the BGs have 2 have been tuned in 2 most of Clive's shows previously & have to've been totally familiar w/his previous material? There r tons of shows & who can b that familiar w/all of it? Especially if thats not their field. Unless u'r a politician u arent 'managed' That closely.

@romeosdistress No one's a bigger BGs fan than me (of not just th music but th Gibbs family also) & I think this comedy skit is funny. It's not as if it could do them any harm. If someone thought it could they're sadly mistaken. The BGs place in history, in th music world & in people's hearts is 4EVER. Nothing can touch that. As far as Barry's brothers walking off 2, more power 2 them. It's called loyalty. Th entire walkoff thing was just a split-second blip- they had better things 2 get on to.

But u seem 2 think Barry owed Clive something & would have to put up w/anything & everything. Wrong. Everyones got a point where they say 'enough.' Even if u're British, u dont speak 4 all British people. Please don't say "it's what we do" as if all British people or all British comedians wouldve gone as far as Clive did. They wouldnt. I'm sure Clive's a nice guy who made a mistake. :)

I've never seen Barry treat his brothers like they are saying. just so irritating to see those shows..The Gibb Brothers are very humble and give each one their own time. I've watch many interviews and it's not like that at all. Clive was jerk and this interview was all over the place and then he didn't even give them a chnce to answer b/cause he thought himself was so wonderful.. Yuck yuck yuck. love and blessings to the beegees
@beeharbour

Barry consistently talked over the twins and when Barry shut up for a few seconds Maurice talked over Robin. Robin always did a little jump like he was startled when he was interrupted which I assume was just to amuse himself because in a 50 year career with his brothers he only ever completed a total 17 sentences in an interview when they were both present.

@zenalaus The fact that my initial statement has 16 approvals and is flagged at the top suggests that people tend to agree with me, wouldn't you say? The Bee Gees spent a lot of time in the States. That would explain why their sense of humour had whittled away by the time of this hilarious piece of Elton John-esque hissy-fitting. I'm sure they were right bouncy geezers, always up for a jest and jappery when they first burst onto the scene as Les Tossers. I bet their antics were legendary. ;-/
@zenalaus
@zenalaus 14 лет назад
@aldhous Thanks. & I picked up another expression now - 'for your ref' - I like that one. :) Well, I don't hate Mr. Anderson. There are all kinds of people in the world & I don't do the hate thing much at all, so if I saw him I'd just leave him be. Or leave him 'Bee'? (Okay,I'm not a comedian so I probably shouldn't try to crack jokes much.) Take care over there in the land of Shakespeare, The Beatles, and excellent tea! :)
@zenalaus
@zenalaus 14 лет назад
@aldhous Well I knew someone would say that in response 2 what I said but that would b the managers'/agents'/publicists'/reps' fault not the brothers Gibb themselves. My biggest point really is everyone on the whole planet makes mistakes- everyone. Even Bono says he could make things smoother for himself w/more advance people setting things up perfectly 4 him- things like making reservations at restaurants ahead of time instead of trying his luck- but he's human. Perfect is reserved 4 concerts.

@aldhous Sometimes when people tend 2 agree w/something its still not right. Like I said Clives probably a nice guy to know. And I'm sure hes a talented humorist. We all make a mistake sooner or later. Not a person alive on this planet can say "I've never made a mistake." I'd think Clive himself might realize he simply went 2 far that day. There's such a thing as 2 far. Anyhow,btw I grew up watching Monty Pythons Flying Circus & loving it. Also 2 other shows.I understand the difference in humor.
@zenalaus
@zenalaus 14 лет назад
@aldhous We Do get tv, cable & satellite here in the US. I've been exposed 2 British humor 4 decades & no one has a better appreciation of it than me. Humor is humor, even if it has some differences in different countries. Thats the point. Some things transcend all boundaries & r just plain right or wrong. Theres a line in the sand thats not 2 b crossed Anywhere- a common-sense line thats agreed-upon in Civilization anywhere. Clive crossed it. I'm in law too. Anyone in ANY field can b ignorant.
