A colony of honeybees built their hive in a backyard compost bin and I was called to remove them! Here's the 1-minute clip of this bee removal that went mega viral!
"Hey Fred, have you checked out Texas Beeworks?" Yes, now I can say that I have indeed. Wonderful video and excellent honey bee handling! I'll stop back when I get caught up around here. Wishing you all the best with your bees! Thanks for setting an excellent example for others.
imagine not recognising frederick dunn, one of the cornerstones of youtubee :/ have you checked out her other videos? she has some really fascinating removals. wishing you well!
I only saw a video of yours by chance and man I'm impressed. You're a wonderful person saving bees the way you do. I hope you have continued success. I also love how soothing your videos are.
I'm allergic to bees but I'm trying to teach my kids to not fear and run from harmless creatures and this short video was very helpful for that so thank you!! I have to make sure they know the difference between bees and wasps though!
I have watched numerous videos of Bee Keepers and by far you are the best. During relocating the combs you keep them in the same position, the way you handle the bees and your knowledge of bee behavior. You are truly the 🐝 best friend.
This is the video I saw on twitter some time ago that got me really into watching beekeeping videos, thank you for helping me discover my love for bees
Thank you for following along! It's been reposted so many times in so many places-I wanted to post it here on my YoutTube channel so that folks would know that it's my content and I'm the beekeeper in the video!
So cool you do this! My grandfather lives in Mesquite Texas and saved many bee Colonies in my life time. I have many Memories of bees swarming in his backyard on his peach trees. He knew just what to do with them.
I just had bees move into my compost bin today. Learning how to manage/remove them is why I'm here. I'd love to keep them but my wife is not as enthusiastic.
Fuck TV. This is a great example of why YT is better than TV ever was. Individual people with one camera doing something ACTUALLY interesting trumps 200 people, 10 cameras, and weeks to shoot, and the product is actually BETTER.
@@canieatthatdonut7798 PR people make decisions from a economic standpoint, not an ideological one. And…”woke” doesn’t mean anything. It’s a lazy way of saying “I disagree with a set of ideas, theories, and philosophical concepts but I lack the intellect or ingeniousness to state why, specifically, I am bothered by these things”.
I admire your work and what you do for the bees! We need to save all these bees. They are so important for the pollination of plants. Thank you for saving them.
Imagine if you were a queen bee living a peaceful life and this gurl comes up and starts taking away your hive and puts you in a clip I would be ANGERY
Please do more removal / relocation videos!!! I’m so glad I discovered your channel- educational and fascinating. Can you please do more? Thanks for teaching people how to be respectful towards honeybees.
My colleagues gave me the nickname of "St Francis of the bees", because I was forever reviving bees with sugar water. It is just so satisfying to see them rev up, fly away and go back home.
Hi Erica, I live Bees and respect them highly. There was a Bush at my entrance to my apartment. I'd tell kids to not touch the bush. Go about their biz. 1 curious little girl did not listen and got chased. My kids never got stung nor I. They are amazing. It was as though they got to know we belonged there too.
Hi, have you ever had to deal with Africanized Honey Bees? I saw a video recently that showed they’re in Texas, so I was wondering how you deal with them?
Amazing work. Where I live there is not much bees, so I am so happy if I see one or 2 flying over the orange Jasmine. But I am afraid to get close to them. 🌱 looking forward to more of your work 😍❤
One of the reasons I say, “Black and Yellow is terrifying, but always check what type it is.” If it’s a wasp I run away, get away, or do the unlucky thing and help put it out of its misery because my cat tore off its wing. If I find a bee in the house I’d much rather figure out how to get it outside ASAP. One of the reasons I’m less scared of bees is that they usually don’t sting people. Wasps tend to (so far as I know) in the fall since they’ve pretty much run out of their main food source and become fairly aggravated. Basically: Bees tend to get hangrier less predictably than wasps do. The only way I know of that you’ll know a bee is hangry is if there’s no flowers or *specifically* their hive around. Then things become more threatening.
Can you do an update on all the bee homes you saved? Like how their hive is doing if they are still in their newish hives, how the queen is doing, the brood, and how big they have gotten over time. Like the hive that was in the shed walls.
YOU blow mw away ! I've seen an unbelievable amount of strange/outré things, the most amazing being (kinda of-course) , the most either extreme r dangerous r, terrifying. I'm talkin' about a 1 in a trillion life, (insofar as pushing the envelope etc... ) , but YOU! What you're evolved in , is right up there in my ultimate respect classification ! You totally rock , rrr, the list just goes on & on & on ...Realizing how crucial bees are, [respect], the mettle to carry out the endeavor,[respect], the empowerment you illustrate (fortifies no-doubt by intentional investigation) by there never being anything akin to fear,[respect+awe], and on and on. Yer doing an awesome job, and educating the masses like a pro! {sorry but I have to ...}, As if all that's not enough...your also stunning visually and your voice...is the wind travelling through an aeolian wind harp !! HEY, don't worry, yer in Texis, I'm in Vancouver Canada. There's no stalking here! Just HAD to let you know how terrific you are/hope I haven't freaked you out ! bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzciao!
I hope this isn't a dumb question but when they put their bums down, it kinda looks like they're trying to sting you. How do you know they're not? Or what is that behavior?
ur great with the bees! ur doin a great job for nature...and BTW, u are stunningly beautiful....u like single divorced firefighters from NJ? lol...keep up the great work
I wondered as you walked off with the hive how many disoriented bees are left behind. I hope they find or follow u to the truck. No bee left behind. Ha.
Many things... first and foremost the temperament of the bees. If they’re exhibiting aggressive behavior (trying to sting, pinging me as the fly, etc), I put on PPE. Size of the hive also matters. A smaller colony has less resources to defend and tends to be less aggressive. However, this was a large colony that was very gentle. Also temperature outside. I did this removal on an August afternoon in Austin and it was 100 + degrees outside.
@@paulgarcia3524 not sure if thats a ironic comment or not. Byt I'm sure if you Google "bees threatened" you'll find a bunch of articles on the subject. I was merely interested if Texas beeworks had any interesting info about their experiences.
Almost 1/3 of a colony are forage bees and are outside the hive during day. If you move a hive during day, all these bees die if there is no other colony close, where they can get asylum. Normally you have to wait until it starts getting dark so all bees are in the colony, you close the entrance and move them.
Thank you, Jeff! I actually don’t take 2nd story or higher removals or removals that require extensive ladder work-to minimize risk but also since I work by myself and removals on ladders take three times as long. I’ve known too many great and very experienced beekeepers who have gotten hurt from a misstep on a ladder. I just can’t afford to be out of commission from an injury. Maybe one day I’ll invest in a scaffold, but I’m just fine on the ground or low ladders until then! Bee well!
I luv when you save bees. The bees are probably like 'and then this lady saved us'. Where can I get a sticker? Can I go with you on the next rescue? I can hold the camera. :D I'm a fan.
