Beef Mechado Recipe | Beef Stew | Mechadong Baka | Easy to Follow Recipe

Beef Mechado is on the Filipino version of Beef Stew. Serve with steamed rice.
Ingredients :
1 1/2 kilos of Beef Chunks
1/2 cup of soy sauce
juice of half lemon
Freshly ground black pepper
3 tbsp cooking oil
3 potatoes cut in quarters
1 carrot cut diagonally
3 bay leaves
1 medium size onion diced
2-3 cloves of garlic minced
2 tomatoes diced
1 tablespoon fish sauce (optional)
1 cup tomato sauce
3 tablespoon tomato paste
3 cups beef broth
1 red belle pepper cut
Salt and Pepper to Taste

When I was a young girl oh so so many moons ago, I went to a boarding school where I remember being served dish called beefsteak. I have been searching for a recipe but have only found the typical calamansi + soy sauce recipe. I remember the beefsteak of my youth had vegetables, green peas etc etc. Looking at your video, the mechado looks very much like the recipe I have been searching for. I wonder why my dish was called beefsteak when I looked like it was the mechado. But of course I can only rely on my memory and as we know our sense perception is unreliable, especially when it comes to childhood memory. But thank you for the recipe, I shall try cooking and I do so hope that the taste would be similar to my childhood beefsteak recipe. Sorry for the long and rambling comment. Thanks again ❤

I tried this 2 night go and oh boy it was just perfect, I put few drops of churacha just for the kick since my son loves chili food and I can’t. The beef wasn’t a lot but my son said the sauce and the potatoes are enough to eat it again for dinner with plain boiled rice. Thanks for the recipe.
