Harbor Freight sells 7 and 9 mil nitrile gloves. They’re thicker than the nitrile or latex gloves typically found at grocery stores or at WallyWorld. They even have slightly longer gauntlets that can stay under or even over the sleeve of a bed jacket.

I'm going to have to try those. I've heard them mentioned several times.

These aren’t sting proof, to be sure, but the bee has to really want to sting you.

@@MerlinspopTBH I have been using 6mil nitrile gloves from Napa (Challenger) and really like that they don't stick to the propolis and the bees have never stung through them and I have had bees hit my hands with a vengeance while wearing them but they don't hold up very well. I have had them rip wide open just moving frames around. It could be that I bought them so they would fit snug for the dexterity. Didn't want gloves with slack to get caught under and between frames. My hands are soaked when I pull them off but that is no big deal, unless the sweat from my hands is what is causing them to fail.

I use them too! Personally I believe the issue with the leather gloves was multiple stings caused saturation with pheromones. I use the thinner gloves from HF over my goatskin gloves if the bees are being defensive, thinking that it would keep the propolis and pheromones down on the leather.

You can use a glove liner for the rubber gloves . just like electricians use for rubber gloves for arc flash. Makes it easy to take off.

Excellent video! So true what you said...if gloves fit well then they are usually too tight to bend your hand/fingers...however if loose/comfortable then too they usually end up too bulky to manipulate hive parts. Very frustrating! I end up going a little tight (fit well) to have dexterity. Also agree that the ventilation "ring" on gloves is of negligible difference in cooling (I cant tell the difference).

I’m glad you’re doing videos that teach and instruct show different pieces of equipment. I have a question I have a hive with a screen bottom born and it appears to have more bees under the bottom board then in the hive what should I do

I had tried disposables and didn’t like them, so I returned to the standard issue leather bee gloves. But I find them too clumsy for me. By the time I’m into my third hive I’ve ticked off my bees and they are starting to let me hear about it. I bought the yellow ones you mentioned. I cut them to be a bit shorter and they worked amazing. I have the thickness of the leather but the dexterity of the reusable. Thanks for all the tips.

Hey David, my name is Dowaine Anderson from Jamaica. I've just received a pair of the yellow gloves which I bought from the Amazon link. I tried them on and I love the feel of it, I'm gonna try working my hives with them and give my feedback on them.

I've more or less settled on 7 mil, long cuff, nitrile gloves. They offer some protection but preserve finger dexterity. The girls can and occasionally do sting through them, but as you pointed out, you won't catch a full venom sac full.

Great info. I have been thinking about getting a suit and gloves, I have only been using a hat and veil. But I am leaning on the side of caution, I have heard you many times say to keep you PPE close by. Thank You for your subtle push to help us all be more safe, and to become better beekeepers. Have a blessed day.

My state beekeeping inspector wears neoprene gloves. I asked if they are sting proof and he said he had never been stung with them. Well half an hour later he got his first sting in my hives. LOL

1:30 That happened to me but it was a jack-jumper ant. At first I thought I was getting bee stings through the glove then realised it was happening inside the glove. Had a sore spot for months afterwards.

To move a wild hive located in a next door neighbor's boat about 25 yards to my house in a brand new box, should I bring the comb and put it in the box to keep the bees there?

Hi David - I also use the ChemRest gloves and they are my favorite beekeeping gloves. One thing I have noticed is after several hours of use, they start to stink BAD. Have you ever tried washing yours?
@beek

I've never noticed a bad smell. No I have not tried washing them. Probably fine, just don't throw them in the dryer.

Hi David, I am hoping you can help me by answering a question. The question is, is it possible to have two queens in a hive? Long story short I live in upstate New York this is my first colony, I purchased a nucleus in the spring, I lost the queen, I purchased a new queen. The old queen was an Italian the new queen is a Carniolan, that’s all they had left. It’s been about five weeks since I’ve introduced the queen. All signs point to a healthy colony, I have lots of eggs, lots of larva, all different stages, and capped brood, all in abundance. I saw what believe to be the queen, looked more like the Italian queen, she was more golden, larger than the worker bees or nurse bees and a shiny thorax, and then I saw the marked queen I purchased on another frame all in the upper brood box. I’ll see if I can attach a picture of the unmarked mystery queen, or could it be just a larger Italian worker bee, I don’t know what to think.

Maybe the pheromone left by the bee stinging the gloves causes more bees to sting the gloves?
