Thank you for these videos! I've been studying for a couple years, getting my first two hives this week. So much useful information I subscribed as soon as I found you today! The picnic table: Love the hive stand idea, but if you do need table space plane the boards down and use stain or oil to preserve it. They don't make wood like that anymore! Recommending your channel to the other newbies in our local bee keeping organization!

Just got thru reading you and your wife book. Back yard bee keeping. I'm a beginner bee keeping there is a lot of good information in the book I suggest new bee keepers to read it. This video was also very informative. Now I will have a better understandin in what I am looking for when inspecting the hive. I now know the difference between capped honey, bee bread and capped brood. Also enjoyed coffee time. Thanks for the encouraging word. I confess I need to level up. l believe the bible tells us if we are slacking to level up.

1) Love the patriotic drone! 2) Please don't worry about the trains, it just adds character to the videos. 3) Suggestion for the table: raffle off the burn spots (we, your audience love them and think they're hilarious), and see if there are artists in the audience who could do some artwork on other pieces of the table for you to hang in the background of your videos

Thank you David for this great video. I commented only a few days ago about defining some of the more used and proper names and terms like bee bread, nectar, etc. So, even though you replied that just such a video was in the works, I was pleasantly surprised that you responded so soon! BTW, I live probably less than a quarter mile from the train tracks so I completely understand the frustration of the big freight trains and as well the, "City of New Orleans" passenger train that make daily runs and of course the subsequent noises. Anyway thanks a million.

Dave, Thank you for the time and effort you put into these videos. They are very informative and entertaining. I started beekeeping 9 years ago and it has been a learning curve to say the least. Partly because because of the time required to remain proficient in my career as and airline pilot, and partly because of a lack of comprehensive guidance. Thanks to your instruction, and my due diligence, I am becoming comfortable and skilled with handling bees...eight strong colonies and growing. Insect husbandry, as you have stated in your training videos. Your "Coffee Time" today relates to me directly. My career is waning with less than nine years left, and being a type A personality, I am looking for what I can do when I grow up :). Both my kids and I are musicians, with my daughter and son being competition singers. That said, I was thinking about starting a internet/RU-vid/Rumble show with them and there very talented friends. Maybe a modernized 1950s style variety show of sorts. Even if it didn't take off, it would be something cool to do with my family and would push me out of my comfort zone to "Level up" as you put it. Keep the videos coming. I look forward viewing them when I see them in the queue. Perhaps when I am on a long layover in Indianapolis, I could rent a car and pay you and you wife a visit... Mutts. There is no truly specific race of queens since they are Haplodiploidy genetics, it is nearly impossible to hold tight genetic lines. Seems like the best queens are the mutts.

Timing....isnt the train sort of consistant in same time of moving through? Maybe you are filming sort of same time each time? The train is wonderful to hear, and its a short time. I wouldn't worry much. Most of us newbies don't mind, we'd rather have your expertise and your teaching style than not because of a train, etc. Your videos are appreciated!!! Thank you 😊 💓! Oh and your coffee Bolgers made me laugh 😆 yes, grind your own and press, WAY better. I am considering the roasting 🤔.

David I am following your feeding guide 1-1 + pollen substitute ++ my question is to continue to grow the colony do I still need to add a pollen patty. Pollen patty to make bee bread and feed the brood. 1-1 to keep bees healthy and add to future resources???

Great video, I wanted to ask you for your opinion. I have two hives in my horizontal hive and the bees I caught are really expanding! When or should I consider getting another hive home for the bees. I'm new at this and don't want to make a mistake like loosing my bees in the winter, I'm located in Wisconsin. Thank you.

Kinda impossible to know without being there and inspecting your hive. As long as they do not swarm and have room to expand and mite levels are kept low, that's your best chance of getting through the winter. Feed, Feed, Feed this fall. You need lots of bees of winter physiology because summer bees only live 40 days. Bees of winter physiology live 4-6 months. Overwinter with summer bees doesn't work.

Follow the label. I assume you mean you will be putting the supers back on. The label will give specifics on this or checkout their website for safety.

@@beek Actually, I am new and didn’t know when to put a honey super on. My overly large hive has a lot of honey in the top box, of 3 deeps. After I treat those 3 deeps, I can not harvest any of that honey from those 3 deeps, correct?

Seems like I should say NO! But I have no data. Be safe and invest in a marking pen. In the old days we used model car paint and it was probably oil based.

It is so hot in Texas we have hive beetles and verroa mites. Do you have any problems up north

Compared to Texas, we do not have your kind of eat or beetle infestation but we do have both. I saw 3 beetles in one hive over the course of a few months, killed them and see no more 😃
