I have been trying to spread the word about honey bees being on the endangered species list and how they need to be protected so I've been advising people to grow flowers and vegetables not only to help themselves but the bees and to lay out bowls of rocks that break the surface of the water so the bees don't have to rely on pool water and such
Grew up in Carlinville, Il. and I've moved to Georgia. I do want to start a hive in my backyard for the garden. I see lots of bees in the summertime and thinking of a Flowhive. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you! Didn't realize she laid that many eggs. That's truly GOD working miracles!
I just discovered this channel and I'm blown away! I was wondering...would planting thyme around honey bee hives reduce the likelihood of a honey bee hive getting mites and other pests?
I just bought my first bee package. I havea top bar hive. I live in NewBern, North Carolina. Nobody uses topbar hives in Craven County and the local bee keepers association wont respond. Where or who can I communicate with for top bar replacement stuff, cheese cloth for 5 gal bucket and divider or stop bar?
HI Clay. Top bar beekeeping hit the market several years ago and we even manufactured and sold them but it never gained traction. Other bee companies backed off from lack of sales. There is still a somewhat loyal following. It is such a specialty hive that it's difficult to find a group local to you to join.
everyone talks about equipment and in depth stuff about the box but the BIGEEST thing i had trouble with was WHERE THE HELL to get a starter group of Queen/colony bees
I run a non-profit animal shelter in the Philippines. I moved here almost 8 years ago to get away from Canadian winters. Philippines is tropical so it's summer all year around. We have a 1000sq m property and I'd like to get into beekeeping to add one more element that the shelter has to make itself self-sustaining. We already have some fruit trees and a garden, so it would also be helpful for pollination. I've never kept bees before so I don't have any experience. Thanks for this video, I subscribed.
Dude I just found your channel the other day and I absolutely love what you do and what you put out. It is very helpful and I am learning a lot. I plan on starting to bee keep next season and am studying as much as I can and I keep coming back to your videos. Thanks man. And what you do with coffee time is cool. No one takes that personal time anymore. But you do and that’s what makes the difference!
I wish that I could thank all of the honey bees on Earth for all of the incredibly hard work that they do and tell them how much I appreciate them pollinating all of the plants and especially giving us that delicious, nutritious honey with all its multiple uses! 🐝🍯
Thanks David, great video, you have a natural knack for teaching. After watching 4-5 beginner videos, yours was by far the most comprehensive, thorough, and easy to follow.
Thank you J! I spent so much time putting together my online video courses a few years ago. They turned out to be a big help when covid19 closed down all beekeeping classes. Glad you are enjoying them!
I want to do this because my late father in law was passionate about it. Never realized all that goes into it. We raise most all 2-4 legged animals, but never considered bees! I look forward to watching and learning from your experience. Thanks for your info.
Thank you very much for this video!! I had complete zero knowledge about beekeeping. This was fantastic first overview, i now know where to even begin. And once more - education is the first step. Thank you for emphasizing this.
I've been looking for a video exactly like this for a long time! thank you so much you've answered so many questions I've had in just this one video. thank you again and I look fwd to checking out more of your stuff
VERY informative video. I’m sold! I am planning to take my time in thoroughly learning about beekeeping & bees in general before I make the choice to take on this endeavor. This video was extremely helpful. You’ve given me a lot to think about with this. You gained a new subscriber today. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge & experience with us.
Thank you, David. I’m purchasing a home this winter and the seller has a setup very similar and since she’s moving out of state she is leaving them with me, and I had no idea how to take care of bees! This definitely helped me understand a little more and I will be watching a lot more of your videos before I move!
What a great video to find right as I'm researching Beekeeping. I live in California and I'm looking into beekeeping for pollination services around the local Almond farms. Thank you for taking the time to put out this content and help educate your viewers.
I recently had the honor to help my mother in law add a brute box to one of her hives. First time I've ever done anything like that. I look forward to learning more.
I recently began gardening and have been over researching everything. That lead me to check into bee keeping, obviously. Your intro kept my attention through the whole video which is rare for me. Well done sir, and thank you for taking the time.
Thanks for a great beginners overview! First video I've ever watched on bee keeping as I imagine a homesteading life someday, and I really enjoyed it. Will bee (🐝) checking out more on your channel!🍁
I have just had a beautiful first successful summer. I did a lot of pre-research and I found a wonderful and lovely hobby for my retirement. I live in the beautiful lush countryside of Belgium. After much thought, I decided I would go with FlowHive. I’m now planning at least 2 or more hives. One subject I never read or hear beekeepers talk about is how each and every frame has a very different and distinct flavour of honey. One never hears or sees beekeepers telling us to not make the unforgivable mistake of creating a mishmash honey soup but to speak up about keeping and bottling each frames flavourful honey bounty separately.
I have just signed up for a beginner's beekeeping course with my local beekeeping society. It is a winter course so classroom-based before the practical course in the spring/summer. This video was really useful while I am still in the deciding phase of whether or not beekeeping is right for me...or if I am right for beekeeping!
Dave I really like your info on beekeeping it's very helpful and I really love your videos I live a mile east of Red Hill State Park in Lawrence County Illinois I sure would love to get into bees two or three hives I would really love to help the bee population I have 6 Acres ought to be plenty of acreage for my bees when I get them started thanks again Dave
Wow, how awesome is your work. Thank you so much for the information. Even though I’m not a bee keeper, I’m certainly thankful for those who are. I absolutely enjoy watching the busy bees.❤️
Great video, by the way, you explain things so clearly. I did have one question, and forgive me if I misunderstood, but I was wondering: wouldn't freezing the green panel with the drones to kill the mites also kill the drones? Or is the loss of them worth killing off the mites? Thanks again, I'm learning a lot especially with this video. Keep it up!
Thank you for your kind comments. You are correct. The loss of drones to reduce mites is an acceptable loss because usually they have other drone comb through out the hive.
Really good info David. Im a new beekeeper starting my first colony this spring 2022 and found this really helpful. Will check back for some of your other vids. I am signed on for classes from Canadas department of agriculture. Im in the Vancouver area.
Great to hear Les. I've got specific online courses if you need additional help after taking your on site classes. www.honeybeesonline.com/online-beekeeping-academy/
I was just given a bee hive from a friend that’s moving. This was a great introduction for me! I live in the northern western Washington state so I will be getting ready for beekeeping by next year.
This was a very informative and easy to follow video on beekeeping. Thank you for sharing. I also really love your enthusiasm and passion for it, it's so great to see. Thank you for sharing these great tips.
I am thinking about starting a hive?! I live on an acre my neighbors have much more land plus woods in the back. I am thinking about a flow give as well.
Great Video. I am wanting to start a beehive and am wondering the timing. I live in south Texas, the Rio Grande Valley. Think southern most border of Mexico and Texas. Is it too late to start this year?
Been thinking about beekeeping once I graduate college for a bit. I love gardening and beekeeping seems like a great hobby to add to that. Live in Missouri so similar weather here.
Never wanted to keep bees but i they took up house in my old pigeon boxes. Had a hive relocated 2 years ago. Now I got another one. They sure love my old pigeon boxes!
David, I am a Beekeeper/ From Reno Nevada, I was trained by Jo Muncy the Last World Master Beekeeper, he has since passed away. I am currently living in the Philippines as a Disabled Veteran and am thinking of getting back into beekeeping again ! I ran 25 hives in Reno at a squash farm which I left my hives there on the farm, it was a good deal back then. I started with 5 hives then did splits to 10, then 20 & I bought 5 more. I wanted to get up to 250 and hopefully get an Almond Orchard Contract, but that never worked out! I really enjoyed watching your video, thank you for making it! Wishing you a Great Year, Regards Rob Pecchenino.
I live out in the c ou country in North FL and I'm thinking about having a few bee hives as well. It would make s ok me really good money and some really sweet honey for my family to enjoy and maybe sell to the neighbors where we live at
Hi, new subscriber here. informative video. I've recently been interested in beekeeping and other self-sustaining hobbies and I would like to ask if you would recommend someone young "21-22 yo" to pursue beekeeping as a hobby. like would it take much time in my day to where it would affect my study? and would it bother neighbors close to the property "small property "? would like to see your opinion about it. thanks.
Many people start beekeeping bees at very young ages. It depends more on the skill and ability to learn fast. It can be a problem with neighbors so it would be good to talk with them first. Also make sure you are not allergic to bee and wear protective gear.
It's funny how some people would watch the video till it ends... Use the ideas that was said and still click the thumbs 👎 button. You'll not nice It's very informative.
Can we just acknowledge for a moment how special and amazing bees are! I love bees and they are so important for our ecosystem. God bless the bees and the bee keepers!
I probably wont be able to beekeep for another 2-3 years, but im extremely invested in beekeeping and i'd like to make it my career if im able to when im out of highschool (and college if i decide to go) All your videos on your channel have helped me understand more and more and im still super excited to do my best and try my best to make it work! Im gonna make sure to take enough classes for how ever long is recommended before i start, thank you for giving all this amazing information for free :D
I’m actually allergic to honey bees but I have absolutely always wanted to start bee keeping with a small hive I live just above Boston Massachusetts your video is amazing I can’t wait to start. Thank you so much for sharing.
Hi Dave, just found you on this very video and I’m excited to get to explore all you have to offer regarding beekeeping. When I heard your intro information providing the fact that you’ve been doing this a long time I was somewhat shocked to hear the poor sound quality of your video. What I am suggesting may already be in place as a whole but for what ever reason not on this video. Professional microphones that are very user-friendly are not that expensive these days. It will change the whole dynamic of the quality of your video. I hope that you receive this suggestion well as it is intended. Looking forward to exploring your video library now that I have found it.
Thanks Ralph, not offended and appreciate the help. Yup, I did struggle with sound forever, but I think I've finally figured it out and have been able to purchase some better mics. Thanks. Take a look at this recent video where my wife and I both have mics on and I think the sound is good. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s6Ku-UZ8dqE.html
I just started I got one hive at present so I'm on here and happy to be 👍 thanks for the knowledge sir . Also to everyone else on here starting or wish to start bee keeping, good luck 💯💯💯.
