Which setting did you prefer?

I liked the default setting the most, but other modes has their own use cases and they could be useful as well. This mic sounds great even as is.

Very impressive! The broadcast switch and the 269 sound really good! Can you use the 269 mode with the broadcast switch engaged?

I was pleasantly surprised by how much that 67/269 switch does to alter the sound. I expected it to be more subtle but it really does give a whole other flavor.

Love your microphone reviews -- thorough and neutral. I know the vast majority of everyone is looking vocal, drums, guitar, but ... do you know anyone to bring in to play sax, trumpet or string bass into a mic. The trumpet is a brutal test for dynamics showing off any "edge" the mic may produce. A trumpet with a Harmon mute has brutal harmonics. And of course the deep resonance of a String bass is another challenge in itself. Thanks.
@SeawellStudios

Thanks for the feedback! I don't have a trumpet player in town that I use regularly at this moment(I usually hire horn players on soundbetter). I will certainly keep it in mind though and try to make that happen at some point! Thanks for taking the time to watch the review and comment, it's very much appreciated!

Thanks Josh! This mic is surely a beast for the intimate sounding vocals and for its top end quality sounding. To me M269 mode has more presence on everything. S2 mode sounds deeper with more proximity effect. Without any mode it sounds more balanced and smooth.

Thanks Tom! I really like what the S2 does as well! I felt like I could sing the quietest/most intimate with that setting for what it's worth.

This mic sounds really fantastic, though I would expect this from Ben. He lives an hour or two's drive from me and his handiwork is extremely impressive, especially when you consider that he's a one man team and hand-makes his own capsules and transformers(!) I think of his mics as long-term investments because they are built to survive a nuke and tend to be very versatile. Judging from the audio in this video the mic has a really smooth but present top end and also a massive bottom. The midrange is super smooth and inoffensive while remaining up front, and I'm very impressed with how it handled the different frequencies when it was being hit louder. Didn't break up into disgusting harshness AT ALL. When it comes to the different modes, the S2 was pretty much identical to the standard to my ears, but something is happening with that M269 that just grabs me. It's like every frequency range just grew hair on its chest -- especially the mids -- while at the same time the top is even smoother than standard. Very cool, this might be the next mic I get from ole' mate Ben.

Thanks for checking out the video and for sharing your thoughts! Ben is such a craftsman. I've admired his work for a few years now since I first heard the Tribute 1 mic. Getting to chat with him on the phone a bit, I'm an even bigger fan. Such a great guy and I wish him all the success in the world! The BU67 is so smooth it's hard to believe it's this affordable!

Greetings from Argentina Josh! Great video! Thanks for taking the time to do this! If you don´t mind asking, saw you made a video about BeesNeez U87 mic, I think it could be interesting a comparison between both as the U87 is at a nice price point also! Thanks again and I'll be waiting anxious for the RS124 and the Stam mk2 Fet47!

@@SeawellStudios Hi Joshua actually it’s a great idea of you could add the Serrano 87 ( your mic specifically ) it would really be interesting cause I def feel 1) Carlos’s 87 is closer to the M269 mode of Ben’s 67’ but in a FET body of course or a Neumann 67 ( M269 version or like the latest Reissue ) than the vintage 87 or Ben’s 87 or his own vintage Serrano 87 . It will def be an interesting comparison to hear 😊👍

I absolutely love the Besneez line in general, and def want the new V2 Vernon of this one, with the "New" and "Old" switch. I do have to say, another company that makes incredible mikes by hand, at even lower price point, is Roswell Pro Audio. You should do a video comparison of the Besneez to the Roswell Mini K67x. I know it will not be a fair comparison in terms of who makes the best exact true copy of the original, but I think the Roswell is the best option for that flavor of sound at much a lower price, and still maintaining that expensive high end quality, that all the other Chinese clones just can't match, until they are modified.
@danielparker247
@danielparker247 6 месяцев назад
Another hand made... non clone... capsule built in house, mic with the U67 character, is the JZ Vintage 67. I believe the Beesneez is the best 67clone, but both the Roswell K67x, and the JZ Vintage 67, are the next best alternatives... and at an even lower price point. It would be a great help to all the mic hunters on a budget, out there to see a video where these three mics are compared.

Hey Josh, BU67 sounds great! Have you ever tried the Soyuz mics? That 17 series FET is one of the best mics I've ever used and also uses a similar 67 style capsule. I'd be interested in your thoughts one day on it as a comparison :)

Hey man! Thanks for putting these videos out! I am curious if you have used other BeesNeez mics other then the 67 and 87 clones? I see on their website that they have several other offerings, including a tribute series and a producer series. In particular, I've been itchy about a ELA 251 style close but the Uptons of the world are still out of budget for a home recordist like me. Thanks again!

I've had the pleasure of using the BU87, BU67, Tribute 1, Mahalia and a pair of Lulu FET mics from BeesNeez. All have been very impressive! I have not used any of their 251 style mics but based on all else I've heard, I would expect them to be top notch!

I sold this mic once I saw the V2 announced. Purely cosmetic, I'd just like the have the larger mic body. I haven't picked up a V2 yet but that's only because I'm pretty much only doing mixing and mastering these days, very little tracking. I would love to have a chance to compare the Beesneez side by side to the Stam at some point! This is still my favorite mic in this price range for sure!

Hi Josh, Beesneez interesting company, would like a 67 to add at some point. I said I’d share my Dangerous Compressor experience with you. It is, of course a joy to use Dangerous know how to choose a switch, a button or a potentiometer making interaction pleasurable and satisfying. It is the 180degree opposite of the RS124, modern, clean, transparent not sterile but efficient, effective etc. It is actually a great double act, assuming once you’ve tracked with your 124, you might then only want to squeeze the audio for the mix, not colour further. The Dangerous is one of those tools that is hard to hear, yet you are continually aware of its positive contribution. Sonically, while almost absent in any real sense, it makes an instrument more present and musical, but you regularly check your judgement…are you just hearing things or does it really sound that good? On a vocal, it acts upon the aforementioned RS124 like a finish tool, tastefully buffing it up, giving not a shine but rather a subtle patina, while setting it straight in the speaker. Its real home though, is on the mix buss, it does everything my current VCA comp can, but with an elegance and depth. Which is the point I got to and realised, as much as I adore it’s beautifully engineered design, how it feels and how tasteful it is, that it would be somewhat under-utilised in my studio…I don’t need something this good! By which I mean, its much more a mastering processor that you could also use on a drum bus or vocal, rather than a mix or tracking processor you can use on the mix buss. In my assessment, purchasing the Dangerous right now for us, would seem overkill. I’m sure if it were in the studio we’d use it all the time, but there are simply more pressing pieces like utility comps and EQ that we need. The Dangerous is not necessary for anyone truthfully, unless your mastering regularly, but it is a joyful example of fine design. PS, got any recommendations for EQ other than Ironworks or API? I have RSW295s and Trident 80B in 500 both quite different, Trident pretty great on vocal but lacking mids and low end features. RS amazing mid but not as keen on lo or high end. I think you will know the kind of thing I’m likely to appreciate given recent exchanges! Passive?
@SeawellStudios
@SeawellStudios Год назад
Thanks so much Jon! I really appreciate you sharing your experience with the Dangerous comp. As far as EQs go, for vocals I really like a pultec clone(AML is the one I've used but I've also heard great things about AudioScape's version) or an Avalon AD2055. The Avalon has a lot more bands if you're looking for more versatility plus it's 2 channels 👍🏼

@@SeawellStudios Thanks! I shot out a helios 500 EQ and RND 551 yesterday on vocal…my Trident 80B won! However, I’m thinking the Trident A in 500 might be a higher spec version, so…want to look into that as well. I think…I could be a Trident guy, I dig the vibe!
