The second movement of this concerto (in my opinion) is a dialogue between two lovers, with absolute, pure, untainted, heartful love to each other. And, this version, thanks to the conductor, filled my heart with the true joy of love.

I was about to click off this suggested video from some unknown orchestra and soloist but after hearing a few notes it sounded right and nice. The orchestra accompanied the piano excellently, melding together in unison as if like brothers. The pianist treated this composition as a piece of art, free of the annoying overboard pomposity as usually interpreted by others. There are no dynamic struggles nor timing lag between the orchestra and the piano. The orchestra is not overbearing too. It truly embellishes the piano and not just tag along. The synergy here is strong and without arrogance. Finally, Beethoven concerto #5 is played right, by both the orchestra and the pianist. Bravo !!

Agreed. Quite amazing on all ends. I will say though- Frankfurt RS is pretty high up there in popularity. Aimard is more niche, but very important in the industry. Friends with Ligeti, many Ligeti's etudes were written for Aimard or under his guidance. And his Bach WTC is top 10! He's a force to be reckoned with.

Thank you, thank you very much hr-Sinfonieorchester, for uploading the complete concerts, do not know how grateful I am, very few orchestras upload the complete videos to RU-vid, and even rarer when it comes to top quality musicians, and this concert for me is very Special since it is my favorite, I used to believe that the Berlin Philharmonic was the best and they had no rivals, but you have changed my opinion!!

my believe is that many good orchestras like berliner or vienna have very similar performance skills, soloists and conductors are the key to a truly outstanding concert among others.

So enjoyable to hear the laser-like clarity of every note, phrase, and the connection between soloist and orchestra. This is the cleanest PC 5 I think I've ever heard from both soloist and orchestra. I really wish I could have heard it live. Many thanks to the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Afkham, and brilliant pianist Aimard!

The best interpreter for all Beethoven's music. Also agree that the orchestra is really wonderful. Thank you for sharing this. I must say that I'm impressed at the quality of the video. Great sound, best camerawork, never too much or too little. Very well balanced, good timing and never misses the most important closeup. Bravo!

I am surprised in positive way, that Mr. Aimard, whom I know especially from XXth century repertoire, is playing Beethoven with such a deep understanding of this piece, including sound aspects of piano from the beginning of XIXth century familiar to composer himself.

Wow. Superb. Such a tight connection with pianist and orchestra. Perhaps the best Emperor I've heard.Absolute clarity in every note. In the first lock down here in Australia I listened over 5 nights to 5 different pianists playing this piece and at that time Hélène Grimaud with Paavo Järvi won my heart ~but a year later, Pierre-Laurent takes Gold. Couldn't help a funny thought ~ here's the Orchestra all dressed up, white bow ties and all, but a an dressed as the Plumber walks in and steals the show :)
