...a slow and emotionally painful madness going slowly deaf. And having to be mocked by his contemporaries. Must of been hell for him. Yet still remembered and loved for his beautiful music he gave the world to enjoy.

My favorite composer Ludwig van Beethoven. His music was full of emotion, power, passion, dramatic, melancholy, introspection, deepness, sorrowful, striving, struggle, encouragement, devotion, excitement and triumph.

I feel sad when he lost his hearing. I can't understand the pain and the frustration he might have felt and to me, 5th Symphony: Allegro Con Brio, was very strong and very Forte. I can only imagine by this certain piece of his music, was not only beautiful and very Forte, he was truly trying to express himself and the only way he could, was through his music especially this one. The whole beginning to end was like: "Hello. My name is Ludwig van Beethoven and this is my story and I am playing this music piece as a sign for the world to know that being a person who lost his hearing and at probably a young age too, I am having trouble signing with words from my mouth and can only express with my music. Either love it or hate it. This is just me and how I'm feeling and what I'm going through. Please understand how painful it is for me to be deaf even though it was unexpected and talking and for such a time as this, this is what I am and again, how I'm feeling by expressing it. Maybe not with words and a voice to be heard, more for the world to know that everyone is different so, if you will, give me and them a chance." :( I love you and your music, Sir Beethoven, I just wish I was there to hear how you played in real life. Your real picture of yourself is basically a probably a painting. Anyway, I hope I see you in Heaven. Love, DarLing. 😰❤️🙏

That had to be so devastating. I'm not sure what's worse, being blind or being deaf. If I'm not mistaken he still composed even when deaf. He was a brilliant musician. Sonata Pathetique is one of my favorites, as well as the Moonlight Sonata. Rest in Peace.

It depends, but in 90% of cases, being blind is worse. Just blindfold yourself for a couple of hours and you will feel. But, for such a composer like Beethoven, being deaf is way worse.

Beethoven was found to have Paget's Disease of Bone in his skull. Autopsy found extra bone growth pressing on nerves in his ears. The Paget's Disease of Bone over growth may have caused Beethoven to have shaping to his head, his skull.

How and when did he become deaf?
@CLASSICALFAN100
@CLASSICALFAN100 5 лет назад
In his young (broke) days, Beethoven grew fond of cheap (sour) wine, which was re-sweetened using lead salts. As he was a heavy drinker, this grew into a chronic lead toxicity which caused his tinnitus and eventual deafness. His autopsy showed heavy lead deposits in his bones, caused by this chronic ingestion...RIP

It's false that LVB used to play too much "forte" because he was deaf. Sometimes he was playing "piano" parts so "piano" that the audience no longer could hear the music (because of low quality instruments of that era).
