I don't really like that the orchestra isn't more involved. I would go like full on Pathetique orchestration and have the orchestra convey everything the piano can and more. That is, if I was to orchestrate this sonata, which I probably wouldn't. I would probably keep it at Quartet and leave Piano -> Orchestra expansion for the likes of the Pathetique and Appassionata Sonatas.

I took lessons at 10 to 13 years old. My teacher said I was at a 7 or 8 year level when My parents stopped paying for the lessons due to money issues. The rented spinet was removed, and I hardly touched another piano for 27 years. When I was 40, I attended a concert featuring the Houston Symphony and Van Cliburn, (his last tour, I think). Mr. Cliburn played Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto Number 1, and several other great pieces. This was just the catalyst I needed to jump back in the arena for recreational piano playing enjoyment. Moonlight Sonata is one of the worlds benchmark piano sonatas. It will draw you in as it seems easy to learn the fingering and playing of the first movement. Yet, the tempo, the dynamics and emphasis on the notes Beethoven intended are usually interpreted differently by very good pianist. I had not yet the luxury of sight reading and had to make, many, markings all over my sheet music. The key that the second movement was in just about drove me wonky trying to learn it. I am now 65 years old, and with all my self-teaching abilities. I just can't play the third movement without hundreds of mistakes. I was a security alarm technician and would spend time in many of the super nice homes in the Houston Texas area. I had a nice little repertoire of a half dozen pieces I could play for customers listening enjoyment. When I would notice a beautiful Steinway, Yamaha, Kawai, or any super clean looking Grand Piano just idly sitting in the front room, I would cleverly merge the conversation towards the piano. Before long, the customer would ask me, "the alarm guy" if I'd care to play something. I would get tingles down my back, as I knew I was going to blow them away with my little mini performance. Sometimes my customers would ask me to stop so I could start over after having all family members and even staff, to come to the den, living, or family room to listen. One of our customers had a beautiful concert grand Bosendorfer. It seemed a mile long. When I played the first movement of Moonlight Sonata on that piano, I teared up at my own playing. Moonlight Sonata is a strong piece of music. I would love to have seen the hands and fingering of Georgii Cherkin much closer. I can listen to an orchestra; however, I like to observe a pianist while listening.

I like how the piano is even in front of the conductor, as it highlights how central to the piece it is - the conductor follows the pianist, and the rest of the orchestra follows him. Beautiful
@ShaunakDesaiPiano
@ShaunakDesaiPiano 2 года назад
For most works consisting of piano and orchestra, those often known as piano concertos, the piano is always in front of the conductor. But importantly, the soloist in a concerto (violin, clarinet, flute, whichever) is always positioned next to the conductor instead of directly in front of them, so the pair can easily communicate during the performance. In the case of the pianist, this results in the piano being in front of the conductor.

Originally published in 1802 as "Quasi Una Fantasia" (Italian for "Almost A Fantasy"), the "Moonlight" sonata received its epithet from poet Ludwig Rellstab five years after Beethoven's death. This composition has often been associated with love and romance. However, nothing could be further from the truth. As subtly implied by its original title, Beethoven's world-renowned masterpiece is more of a "Song of Death" than a "Song of Love". It was undoubtedly written by a troubled and suffering man at a time of tremendous loss, grief, and sorrow. The poem "Canto Di Morte" (Italian for "Song of Death") was written as a tribute to all of those who despite losing everything they hold dear, continue to face the world with unwavering strength and perseverance. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rbd3foiDgXQ.html
