tony nominee alex brightman as beetlejuice and ensemble performing The whole being dead thing from the tony nominated musical beetlejuice - may 2nd today show
@@lukenaoumovitch4477 Bootlegs steal money from the show? I had no idea. I guess I'd better give the show some money by never being able to afford to see it...
@@logan.weisberg bootlegs don't steal any money from the show, they just make the people who see it satisfied with just seeing the bootleg and then they don't spend the money to see the actual live performance
This is the third lyric change I’ve heard to this song and I AM LOVING IT!!!! (Because they perform it on different shows) It’s crazy how they come up with the perfect words to change it and I’m just UGGGHHHHH I LOVE IT 😂
okay alex is great and all but the fact that ryan berslin was like right next to you? he's the dude kneeling closest to the camera at 0:51 and he's like one of the best ensemblists i know? agh i'm really jealous all the way around
Honestly yeah he seemed pretty nervous but he slowly seemed to chill up maybe because of the Kyiv changes I know I’m super late but I couldn’t help but agree
the amount that flooring moves kinda gives me anxiety, like seriously. Even when he's stood still you can see him kinda correct for it, it's maybe why he doesn't stand on the coffin like usual. I know I notice weird stuff but now I can't unsee it help.
this is a different version then the one they showed on tv subtle small things gave it away for example when bj breaks the ukelele the second time on the tv version it fell onstage and people had to rush on the stage to grab it another one is when he asks the one lady how she's doing the tv version has him moving backward in this one he's going forwards so they filmed one separately?
as I told someone else in the comments, this was their practice before the broadcast so not only can you watch the live performance but you can also watch a little extra
This looks like rehearsal. In the live broadcast they have a camera on Al for his reaction, and the second ukulele rolls onto the stage and the prop man appears briefly for a second on camera grabbing it.
ok so i couldn't find the real recording but im glad someone else recorded it BTS and i get to listen to it, i was looking for this one specifically because he switches it up a bit for the different preformances he does
I live that we can see Al Toker absolutely enjoying the show in the background - so much in fact, that at some point he seems to make his way to the front side of the stage so that he can watch it properly.
MusicFeedsYourSoul in the actual show one of the ensemble members gets taken off stage because of the giant sand worm in this number so I’m thinking that’s why one of the ensemble members goes off stage in this performance I could be complete wrong though cause the song was changed a bit for this performance
He isn't there the entire song, so I think the part where he goes offstage is just when they don't need all the dancers for the choreography in that moment
It might be so they have an even amount of dancers, because you see them pair up as he's offstage, and in the actual choreography of the musical someone gets taken off the stage by the sandworm, so they probably just don't have anything for that guy to do until they all line up at the end of the song
I’m not feeling this. For me it comes across as quite flat. This might just be a similar problem to the Addams Family performance on tv a couple of years ago.
Matilda Andrews well to be fair, the musical is absolutely stunning. This performance was outside without the lights and better sound equipment, plus this was just the rehearsal. Alex is incredibly energetic in the actual broadway show.
Mark Squirp it’s a broadway adaptation. Part of the magic is how they’ve reimagined hair, costumes, and makeup to better suit the stage, as well as to give it a fresh new twist.
He meant that the musical doesn't have the quirky dark spirit of the original Beetlejuice. It's more akward and 'hip' with its typical-Broadway-sounding score. Doesn't remotely remind of Beetlejuice...
Remember the time when you had to actually know how to sing to be on Broadway? Good times. What's next, a West Side Story revival starring Ke$ha, Springsteen, and Mick Jagger? Alex sounds like someone auditioning for American Idol, NOT a Broadway lead. His stage presence is also off in this video...doesn't seem commanding enough, and it looks like he's not confident enough either. Some of his movement definitely looks awkward.
I saw the show a few weeks ago and the whole thing is great. But I personally thought Alex was the strongest part of the show. He absolutely steals every scene he's in and is incredible. Also in terms of the voice, if you've seen the movie it's based on, Michael Keaton's voice sounds the same. I think it takes a special kind of talent to not only bring uniqueness to an established character, but to also honor the character existing fans know and love.
@@BeckyA I actually tried to sing the song in an harmonic way, it sounded good but it lost a bit of the Beetlejuice charm, we are literally talking about a deadguy/demon and he sings really good to be in character
