Before Buying a Car From Hertz, WATCH THIS VIDEO! 

I purchased a 2018 kia soul from Hertz. I have owned it for 1.5 years and I LOVE IT! No problems and...the KBB value is still higher than what I paid!! This is the only way to go!!!

I looked at the rental vehicles for sale and to me, they’re not a bargain.

I checked into Hertz and they let you rent it for three days before you buy. This gives you lots of time to get an inspection. Most of them have black interiors.

When i purchased my nissan versa was valued at 11.700 to 12800 every single dealer i went to with the same 46k miles i got it from hertz for $9.100 took it to nissan for a check up and that car was as neat as new. The car was not a rent to own but a certified pre own. With rent to own you had to check it in a bodyshop because they take the car from the active fleet. Certified preown came with new breaks, new tires oil and filter changed, same with engine filter. I pay $177 dollars per month for my car and is new as any other

I bought a 2018 corolla (35k miles) from them for 14.8 k (tax/paperwork included) about a week ago. Everything seems perfectly fine, it came in a bit dirty from the inside so I rented out a car detailer and got it all cleaned in about an hour. Feels like I couldn’t have done much better.

Used to work for AVIS rental and say for cerain that the cars are tried to be maintained as good as possible. As for scheduled services and oil changes the cars are tracked by milage driven. At certain points the car is blocked by computer (can not be rented) untill maintenance is done. What is terrible are the people that rent the cars. Customers have no qualms using a car for something it was not intended for. They will take a ordinary car and go 4 wheeling etc. Had a car returned after the customer used it to transport cow manure for her garden. Seen a lot. Buyer Beware..

As a former Enterprise employee, I can attest to what Ray said about the cream of the crop vehicles being sold in-house and the not so great being sent off the the auction. I can also say that premium cars tended to be driven like crap as the clientele at our branch would never be able to actually buy a car of that caliber but could scrape together enough coin to rent one for a weekend. The condition those cars back in on a Monday morning would make a sailor blush. Interestingly, we never went after the customer regardless on how bad the inside was trashed.

Idea for future video!!!... Can you give us any insight on the best way to order a new vehicle through a local dealer? ( when a specific model trim or specification isn't locally common) What sort of negotiation to expect? Can it be purchased for a small profit over invoice? ($250-$350)? Do's and don'ts? Also if ordered through dealer, what to expect with settling price at time of order or time of delivery. (variables of manufacturer incentives or rebates at time of order or delivery) Do dealers have any incentive to place a custom order vs convincing you to buy from current stock on hand? Any other advice would be appreciated on the subject! Love the channel and appreciate all the insight and knowledge on the little things that can add up to a successful experience in car buying!

The worst thing about buying from a rental fleet is that renters abuse the crap out of the cars.

I bought my current car through the Hertz Rent2Buy program and loved the process of test driving cars in advance without having to rent/pay for them. Prior to purchasing, I had a mechanic review it and did research. It's been 7 years since I bought my car through Hertz's Rent2buy program and it's still going strong. Due to my mileage (23,362), I still had the company's warranty until 60,000. I LOVED this program/process.

I’ve purchased my 16 versa with 40,000 miles on it, I now have 180, and still going, I’m very happy with my purchase and may buy another show the RAV4 soon

Couple of additional notes. I have bought four cars from HCS. One purchased just a month ago. 1. You get only one key fob. With smart keys that is a BIG deal. 2. You will likely not get floor mats. Add another $200. 3. Hertz apparently has in house accident repair. Carfax may be useless. My vehicle has clean Carfax but had obviously had some (minor) body damage which has been repaired. Paint over spray visible inside engine compartment. Inspect your vehicle very carefully. Having said this, I am still a fan. Dealer was asking $4k more for exact model, year, mileage. That car may well have been from Hertz, many used cars at dealers are from Hertz.

Keep in mind Hertz is in Chapter 11 which is bankruptcy PROTECTION so the sky is far from falling (and warranties are far from worthless). If/when they ever get anywhere near Chapter 7 is when I would run the other way unless there was exceptional value or fire-sale pricing.

Many of the vehicles that I have seen at the Scottsdale Hertz Car Sales lot are 2020s with under 20k miles. They are not 2017s with 60k miles that you might have seen a year ago.

With a car rental company in a cash crunch, the first thing to cut back on (I feel) would be routine maintainance. "instead of 5,000 mile oil changes, wait until 8 or 10,000 miles." "After all, future issues will not be OUR problem!"

I had a good experience with Hertz Car Sales but that was back in 2012 when I purchased a 2009 Mazda 5. It was in very good condition and had low miles (can't remember how many -- about 25k). Still have and use the car as my daily driver. I have 183k miles but had to replace the transmission at about 120k.

Would the powertrain warranty still be good on a vehicle from hertz?

That just means next year there will be 200k less cars on the used car market so I wonder what the used car prices will be like next year.

Professional mechanics have warned me that Hertz only do maintenance once a year even though the majority of their vehicles are driven 15,000 miles or more per year. That means 1 oil change for approximately 15,000. They but a whole lot of wear and tear on their new vehicles and then they try to sell.

That warranty is usually NO Good anyway because it falls in line within the factory powertrain warranty. So they're not giving you anything. The Kia - Hyundai powertrain isn't transferrable but if you do the math you'll still be under bumper to bumper. Ford n Chevy still using 5/60k on powertrain.

Ive been tracking Hertz prices for 2020 BMW 330i since June (All around 6k miles). Early June, the 330is prices were 31k and increasing steadily. I was waiting for a price drop but when it didnt happen I bought for 32k at the end of June. Now they are all hovering around the 35k price. Still kicking myself for not buying sooner. Also read about someone else on reddit who bought a 2019 5 series for 30k around the time I bought. I really think the good prices were in June and the prices now are nowhere near where they were when they first started liquidating.

In the process of buying a 4runner from AVIS. The price is not amazing, but good, about $2,000 less than comparable cars in this market, and there's a lot of things to like about buying from them. 4runners are some of the most reliable cars ever built, so I am not as concerned about the rental history of the car, as it has only 22k miles on it. I'm not sure how I'd feel about buying a Ford Focus or a Chevy Impala. The good things are that the car is very recent, about 18 months old, the purchase process is straightforward and easy, and best of all, I can rent the car at the reduced rate for two days so I can give it a very thorough check.

Hertz/Avis could very well absorb into another car rental company. These companies have been doing this over the past two decades.

I doubt that Hertz offers a 12 month or 12k bumper to bumper warranty. I'm sure it's probably 'limited' which means it's basically no coverage.... The bottom line is this: If you're buying a rental car that's out of it's factory warranty, then good luck to you... buyer beware.

from my rental experience with hertz, I highly doubt the condition of their used car for sale. I once rented a challenger from Hertz, drove around 200 miles then the oil change warning showed up. So I called Hertz and asked what I should do. The agent just told me to reset the maintenance warning and keep driving. So I did what they told me then drove for another 800 miles before returned the car. Can't imagine how they take care of cars' maintenance. But definetely won't consider buying from Hertz.

I bought from hertz a Corolla with 32 thousand miles now after 6 years with 240, 000 miles still runs good. Why the hell do I need to buy from dealers ? What can it go wrong with 32thousand miles? I hope all the dealers go bankrupt!

I was just at a couple of Hertz sales places last week, one in Phoenix, and the other in Scottsdale, and I was NOT liking what they had to offer. In my opinion, they should have not been there (granted not ALL were in bad shape), but instead should be shipped off to auction. They were full of dings, scratches and dents, cracked windshields, weather stripping ripped away and loose hanging front spoilers and questionable tires. Not a bargain by any stretch of the imagination, all the while they were asking prices that were "elevated" for the shape they were in. I ended up buying a Tahoe from Enterprise, and it's immaculate inside and out, with one ding on the rear spoiler. Just what I was looking for, and the price was reasonable IMHO. Oh, one more thing, Hertz vehicles had the "subscription" navigation system through OnStar, monthly fee, where Enterprise had the normal "built-in" NAV system, no subscription needed. Also, to see all the equipment the vehicle built sheet has to offer, scan the QR code on the little sticker by the drivers' door, and it'll bring up a list of RPO items. You can also request a build sheet based on the VIN you can submit to GM online. Send email to socialmedia@gm.com and request the build sheet based on the VIN.

Hertz prices are not going to be slashed below Kelly Blue Book they need to make money. Here is something to consider also when they a claimed bankruptcy there stock dropped and they tried to sell stock to raise 500 million. They were stopped by the commissioner of the stock exchange because the investors would not be able to be paid once the bankruptcy went through. Not good business practice.

Even if Hertz does come out of bankruptcy, any warranties they back may be considered a liability and written off during the BK process leaving all warranties null and void

I would like to search and find what the best price would be without being harassed by multiple car dealers through phone calls, texts and email. Plus, you really don't get any prices, just harassment. Your site is the exact same as cars.com, no different.

This reminds me of when my fiance wrecked a rental. She paid over 12k to have it fixed. The body and suspension was pretty bad. I'm sure it was eventually sold. The question I have now after this video is: If she paid for it to be repaired and it didn't get claimed on insurance, I wonder if the Carfax was clean and someone bought it not knowing it was crashed?

Sorry to bust these guys bubbles but the high end hertz cars have a higher price than you can buy on a lot!!!!!! They are right, huge companies are going in and buying all the SUV and compact SUV’s like Mazda and Toyota. They can sell them at inflated prices.
