Celine (Julie Delpy) asks Jesse (Ethan Hawke) to speculate about what he would say to her if it was their last day on Earth.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Richard Linklater directs the romantic drama Before Sunset, a sequel to Before Sunrise (1995). Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) were strangers who spent a loquacious night together in Vienna. Nine years later, Jesse has written a book about the encounter. During his accelerated European book tour, he reunites with Celine in Paris. Before Jesse's flight home, he joins Celine for a picturesque walk around Paris peppered with intimate conversation: at first, about the minutiae of their day-to-day lives and their relationships, and then about their lingering feelings for one another. Before Sunset was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

There is something so amazing about Julie Delpys acting in this scene. Those little moments of her winces cause she went too far, said too much, not enough, wanted something more...you read it all on her face in those quiet moments.

Before Twilight. I'd love to see them in their 60's. We need more films and stories about lifelong love and old age. I think it would be beautiful to see them at that stage after everything we know they've been through. It's hard to witness that in real life. For example you only know your grandparents in their old age. You never really get how they got together and who they were as young people. Same with your parents to some extent. I think this series of films is a fascinating look into the stages of a long term relationship. It's so romantic but honest at the same time.

There is a chemistry between these two that is so beautiful, so magical and so endearing, that their interactions just draw one in, powerfully, deeply yet so beautifully soothingly, magically compelling as it all is. What chemistry, what discussions, what topics, reflections, sweet reverie, theoretical pondering, serene contemplation, and what romantic compatibility that is blossoming into something sublime, dynamic, fascinating, heart felt and long lasting. And the dialogue that drives much of this movie is excellent, unique, original, germane and compelling as it all is, sans any sap, vapid mumbling or any excessive drama. This movie really brought out the romantic in me, from the deepest, most guarded depths, steeped in this pure, loving rapture as such feelings and sensations truly are (and I just lost about 10,000 man points for those comments and revelations, yet so what?? Nothing that two hours of viewing Rambo and Commando in action, blasting away all the bad guys, can't reverse, make up for and restore😊😊😊😊🍺🍺🍺🍺🍻🍻🍻👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤). Great movie, great themes, great dialogue, and great chemistry!

This movie is special because the conversation between them feels so natural. There is attraction, awkwardness, tension, curiosity maybe even a little anger but they do their best to keep the coversation pleasant and fun.

I took my mother to see this in the theater at Canal Place. She absolutely loved it. It was the last adult movie that she enjoyed in the theater, so this film holds great memories for me.

This is when I realize he is not in love with his (ex) wife. If this were the last day of your life, of course you want to be with the person you love the most. His wife and son aren't even a factor in this fantasy. Celine is. Yep. Not surprised that he ended up getting a divorce and immediately getting together with Celine afterward and the anger/resentment his ex wife must have because it did sound she made it hard for him to see his son.
