I can just sit for hours and listen to George talk about his world. And I'm even ready to pay for it. But he's writing something so I guess he's busy a lot
I know right? It's easy for him to talk after selling out an entire family of characters. Those HBO checks are definitely more important than the lore he established.
I'm crossing my fingers we will some day get a few more (or even just one more) Dunk and Egg novella. As much as I love the series proper, I love Dunk and Egg almost more. Thing is, I'd rather not have a Dunk and Egg show because that would almost certainly mean no more novellas. Also, Steely Pate and Ser Kyle, the Cat of Misty Moor are my favorite very minor characters in all of ASOIAF
It's good to see George RR Martin involved, if his world and his characters are being respected in regards to what he intended for them to be, I'm all for it!
Respect is beautiful! Remember how some Of the cast felt! Oh dear! Here's cheers! to more if not better! From some Of All the Great shows! Creating More All Beautiful Great Shows! Its the Audience that will love! Ofcouurse :)), Cheers to All the Awesome creativity! Wonderful rendition Ancient Fascinating Lore! ❤️🔥🗡️🗡️🔥❤️
He took a lot of plot-points straight out of history, just the setting is medieval times. That's why I think he don't even know how to work the main-series together, you adapt from history with your own spin on it and add some cool ideas, suddenly you have no way to tie the strings because even history has it's limits of what to give you and where to take thing after putting them there. Also if the show wouldn't have came he would have propably written pretty wall like ending anyway. Usually you have to have somekinda mental map of where things are going, like Lotr is pretty straight forward from the get go with get the ring into Mordor and defeat Sauron you know. If it's too life-like in one sense it will just keep on going and going and ending up being like, some characters biographies but they meet interesting people and people have kids so it's just never ending cycle and cannot be fit into neat ending. Also he doesn't have to finish it but he needs to stop telling his publishers and fans that he will. That's the sh!tty part.
He can't finish those books but my man can still write fake history like a motherfucker, was my takeaway from reading these books. Optimistic for this show!
The darkness, reality and politics is what sets apart GOT and HOTD compared to other fantasy shows. Other shows can’t just replicate the success without a legendary Author like GRRM🔥🔥
Agreed! That’s why I was disappointed when fans turned on the original show when it refused to fall into all of the same predictable tropes and cliches of this genre.
@@georgeleinberger8670 exactly, They wanted Jon and Danny to be King and Queen and Tyrion hand lol, what show they have been watching all these years? It was just a fairytale ending, I was satisfied with story of S8, but my only problem was it was rushed.
@@no_one8224 I think there was some of that, but I think that’s underestimating the intelligence of many fans who didn’t like the ending. I didn’t like the ending but not for the reason you’ve stated.
@@jayuk83 A fantasy series with 100s of characters there is no one perfect ending , you'll always disappoint one or the other fanbases, since Jon and Dany have highest Fanbases among the fans, this is one of the biggest reasons they didn't like S8
@@TheManorBeast bc he screwed himself by having TOO MUCH lore and having TOO MANY storylines and now he can't finish it. No one could. He went too far man. That, combined with the huge (rightly so) backlash from the show made him even more paranoid than he was. It's real simple, y'all just over complicate it
Song of Ice and Fire genuinely feels like a world you could live in. You can go back in history from 10-50-500-1000 years and you’ll still find different histories cultures and mythology
Dude that's NOTHING compared to Tolkien. He wrote FAR superior stories, created his own languages, and didn't shoot himself in the foot by writing too much lore with too many storylines.
@@fondationmongangafmwilly4162amazing? You mean over convoluted and too much going on. That's why he can't finish. What y'all thought was a good thing with the expansive lore and storylines is the reason he can't finish it. Use common sense kid.
I love hearing George talk about his world, like a great historian of a timeline that never existed. So many fantasy writers don't bother worrying about details like trade routes; they're worried that they'll bore the reader, not realizing that it's those sections that make their world feel so real. I cannot wait for this series!
how does this man keep all the details straight?! he's able to speak about hundreds or even thousands of years worth of history and lore, and still be able to go into granular detail on each of the houses, characters, battles, relationships, etc. blows my mind.
Well that's because there isnt 5000 years of history to start with. His world is written to give the illusion of it. The reason the long night prequel was cancelled is because not even GRR Martin himself could fill the gap as he truly never developed that side of the story for it to be serialized and adapted.
He has that couple that have curated the wiki since the 90's, I'm sorry I forgot their names. He goes to them OFTEN for help, making sure everything is consistent and the lineages make sense, even making sure in one instance that a horse'mane was the right color
@@Tweezy786 true but he isnt a good story teller if he cant finish his story. Whats the use of a story with no ending? So is every other fantasy and and sci fi author since Tolkien. They finished their stories and didnt become rich and famous. Steven Erikson for example, finished his story and is a much better author than martin.

I always love hearing George R. R. Martin talk about the world of Ice and Fire. Truly inspirational and just nice to hear. I'm excited for this new show. I just hope the writing came first and foremost when they developed this show, and always will. _Fire and Blood_ is amazing source material. If they've made any changes (I'm inherently okay with adapters doing that), I just hope those changes were well thought-out and work for the better.
@@joshrivers5191 I'm even going to wait and ONLY buy a used copy if he ever finishes TWOW. I give TWOW a 20% chance of getting done but ADOS has less than 1% unless he's found the fountain of youth.
ASOIAF world history has its own breathing, evolving and functioning world. Goes to show how an Architect writer and a Gardener writer can do a multitude of layers to the story.
The way George RR Martin tells the story is like epic.... I would hav listened to whole of his book from his mouth if at all there was any audio book my him..🔥
I'm really happy that they've given GRRM a more prominent role in the series as a executive producer, instead of a consultant in the previous GoT series (we all know how that played out). It gives peace of mind that the lore and story won't be polluted to a large extend under his guidance, unlike another fantasy series that is coming out soon who's name shall not be spoken... So excited for this!
@@moiseman LOL what agenda? Women with agency in a world that oppresses them? People of different ethnicities being important in a medieval fantasy setting? That's part of ASOIAF, GOT and Fire and Blood. Maybe read other fantasy fiction if you want far-right reactionary politics in your fantasy. Or better yet, leave the reactionary politics behind and start caring about people around you.
Lord Tarly was referring to the fact that Dany did not grow up in Westeros and probably know next to nothing about the land and its peoples. Not saying he was completely right but can't really blame him for how he reacted in seeing someone from the other side of the world bring a hoard of warriors known for their savagery, an army of Unsullied, and 3 freaking dragons after they've been known to have died out.
@@belleretiredaccount it is not canon if it was canon there is no way Tarly tell this shits to Dany he was loyal to Reach/Tyrells and the Targaryens... during Roberts rebellion Targaryens major victory came from Randyl Tarly and spoiler alert during HOTD (Targaryen civil war) most of Reach declared for Aegon/Greens (they break the oaths) but house Tarly declared for Rhaenyra/Blacks (never break the oath)
@@belleretiredaccount still doesnt makes any sense to Tarly's betray their own lords Tyrells especially at that time TV show's last 3 season is completely trash
@@tariizm1500 From how they portrayed Randyll Tarly it absolutely made sense that he would break away from the Tyrells who was helping Dany bring a host of foreign invaders AND dragons (there's no way he hasn't heard of the Dothraki's and the Unsullied's reputations), and he doesn't take his betrayal of them lightly either. He is stuck in this "two evils" scenario, and he made the choice to support and defend his own country, even if that meant Cersei's rule. The later seasons have a lot of problems, absolutely, but I don't think Lord Tarly is one of them. None of this is canon because it hasn't happened in the books, so it doesn't really make sense to compare the two. What we know is that the Tarlys are indeed loyal, and in a sense they have shown that they are in the show by choosing to defend Westeros. Moreover, this calls back to that scene between Jaime and Brienne where he talks about oaths and its complications, something GoT has thorougly and magnificently examined.
4:50 props to the artist, notice the difference in size and age of the dragons. How the oldest and largest has damaged, saggy, wrinkling skin from battle after battle. If the show is this detailed i'll watch every week.
The world building of a song of ice and fire is incredible. It feels like a real world with real historical events and characters, props to George R.R Martin for creating such a complex story
It is great to know what George R.R. Martin thinks about the new series and to see that he is also excited about it. The story he explains is amazing, and I hope that series will be as well.
As a longtime fan of GOT, I actually am very hopeful about this series now that George RR Martin is in charge as produce. His attention to detail in story-telling, political intrigue and betrayals is what makes the show watchable. So I'm cautiously optimistic about the prequel series.
I love the illustrated history on the Blu-ray extras for GOT & it looks like they’ll continue this for HOTD. Very cool! More things to get excited about for this series.
Fr!!! I had to do all i could to stop myself from getting up qnd yelling and screaming in joy and pride. Goosebumps💥

I heard they're gonna make the Hightower sigil flame green when they're at war. And at the Hightower there will be a scene of wildfire being lit to signal a call to arms. Sounds so epic.
All this new Art looks incredible. And i love all these little extra bits of extended scenes from the trailer. Im so excited :) and the reviews so far have put me at ease. Im so ready
New to Westoros. I've read the first two books of A Song of Ice and Fire (never seen the show) and currently reading Fire and Blood. It's awesome to know that Vhagar is still alive during House of the Dragon!!!!
'It's difficult to hit' something the old show runners forgot, at least the book involving the Dance of the Dragons was complete. Finally going to see the true power of the Dragons and House Targaryen.
What?! I don't think they forgot that at all. The point in showing weapons that could take down a dragon was to show the wealth and determination of the Lannisters. It also served to emphasize the fear of dragons and that whoever could defeat one would earn loyalty, respect, and power from the masses. And the Night King taking down a dragon served to show what a formidable foe he was. All he really did was stand and stare, so that act showed everyone how capable and calculating he was. Dragons are difficult to hit, but throughout GRRM's world, the dragons do get hit, fall in battle, pass away. It is uncommon, but it happens. Also, Daenerys didn't train her dragons in any type of aerial combat, so their experience was significantly lacking compared to that of the previous Targaryen dragons. The past showrunners absolutely wrecked the end of the series, but they didn't forget that the dragons are hard to hit. Personally, I like that they killed 2 of the 3 dragons in the ways that they did because it foreshadowed Daenarys' fate and signaled the end of the reign-by-fear era of Westeros.
@@thecomorbiditycurator8018 When Benioff and Weiss decided, that Rhaegal could be shot down from the sky, while standing on a boat that is unsteady, because it is on the waves of the ocean, they just proved they didn't know anything about these dragons George R.R. Martin created. And Euron didn't just manage to have one lucky hit on Rhaegal - He landed his arrows on that dragon many times. Even if the first hit would be extremely lucky one, nothing explains the other shots he landed on the dragon. Benioff and Weiss took all the lore GRRM created and pretty much pis*ed on it.
@@thecomorbiditycurator8018 come off the bullshit lmao. Daenarys fate and the ending she was given was fucking awful. and you know it, even if you ant to pretend otherwise
@@Feisty123 "The past showrunners absolutely wrecked the end of the series" was literally in my comment, meaning I agree with you that it was awful. My point was that killing off the dragons foreshadowed the ending, not that the ending was good. I love a good foreshadowing in a story. I don't think those idiots planned that terrible ending from the beginning, but I do believe they always knew they would kill off Daenarys because the other options made for even worse TV. Option B: Danny beats Cersei and the Night King while maintaining her sanity and restores the throne to house Targaryen, Westeros gets a new benevolent queen. It's weak, too "happily ever after" for the overall vibe of the show and makes no sense. People still remember the Mad King, so they would always fear Danearys would turn out just like him and would also fear her because she had a dragon. That is no more or less tyrannical than Cersei's reign, giving no actual end to the "game of thrones" so it isn't a clean ending, more like a season finale cliffhanger we never would have gotten an answer to. Option C: Danny still loses her mind at the end and then beats Cersei, kills Jon Snow out of paranoia that he will take her throne as the only living male Targaryen. Crazy Danearys becomes the Mad Queen, the cycle continues, and everyone is instead mad about the death of Jon Snow. No ending to the vicious cycle that is the "game of thrones," so no actual ending. Option D: Jon Snow's character structure is compromised by not killing the new Mad Queen and is fine with his complicity in her slaughtering innocent civilians. The fans would riot because that is not the Jon Snow we know and love. Again, nothing is learned about playing the deadly game of thrones and there is no clear ending to the story of the iron throne. Option E-Z and beyond make even less sense. Jon Snow, NOT Danearys, is the Targaryen that can redeem the house name and even he knows it's so far tarnished and lost that he would rather just disappear back to the wall and keep his parentage a secret. Danearys had to die. Killing Danny made sense for the show. I can't speak for the books because GRRM doesn't have a limited number of lines or screentime to finish his incredible story, but as far as the show goes, Danearys dying was necessary. The rest of the ending was horrible and ruined the whole show, but Danearys still needed to die for the end to make any sense. Personally, I would have loved to see her defeat Cersei, reign for a few days by fear with the political figures realizing she wasn't ready and this was a big mistake, then be taken out by the Night King while sacrificing herself to save her last dragon child, the only creatures she loved more than her own life. Would have been a bit poetic, too. They were born in the fire beside her and she would die in the ice beside them. Stick to the fire and ice theme.
This man can do no wrong. Amazing storyteller and one of the most brilliant minds to ever exist to have created such a deep world and be able to articulate it so well. 🙌🏽🙏🏽
Can do no wrong? Hes let down every real fan he had by not finishing the series he started writing. The series that made him rich and famous cuz his fans loved it so much he refuses to finish.
@@joshrivers5191 that's what I was trying to say, wrong use of words. The thing is, GoT is the biggest thing left for him to finish, it's a very, very detailed story full of characters, it's not something easy to finish. Specially now that the TV series were over in such a horrible way. I don't think at all he refuses to finish it, he might be just tired of that project and wants it to end well in his terms. That's just an opinion.
@@nocthorys6 yeah so im saying he needs to stop with all the greedy side projects and regain his dignity and soul and finish the story that matters. The true heart of it all. A Song of Ice and Fire. I just hope he doesnt add a trump allegory. It would be cringe.
I remember reading this story for the first time in Princess and the Queen and even then I thought that this was way better than Game of Throne, back them GoT was still it's heyday, long before it's decline in the last season. I truly hope that this portrayal matches up to what is written because if it does, it is gonna be EPIC... cant wait
Honestly didn't you read "Fire and Blood" and think "he can't write the novels anymore but he CAN do this pretty well, he's giving HBO more shit". Hopefully it works out.
For those of you who don't know, the dance of the dragons is based off of the actual civil war called the anarchy between the grand children of William the conqueror, Empress Matilda and Stephen for the English throne. Matilda was one of the most bad ass women who ever lived. I highly recommend learning about her.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS SHOW! So exciting to see a new fresh story from A Song of Ice and Fire put to the big screen. It looks sooo good. Aug 21st can't come fast enough!!
I’ve really missed this world and the feeling of excitement for it. But I can’t help but walking in to this with cautious optimism after GOT’s finally. It almost feels like reuniting with an ex after a bad break up.
I am so excited for this. I love the world of Game of Thrones, the characters, I hate how it ends but I won't throw away how great most part of it is. GRRM storytelling is on a different level. He also took part in building the background story of Elden Ring and I swear that game's lore is so rich it can easily be made into a series with multiple seasons. House of the Dragon will surely live to expectations and that expectation is very high 🔥
All these amazingly skilled people involved in these enormeous productions and somehow the quality proves to depend on source material from this single individual! Incredible.
these illustrations are incedible! The music in the beginning sounds like the GoT theme mixed with the targaryen one, I think this will be the new intro music
daaayum...the level of imagination and detailes in the story for that many years... like it really happened...and everything goes together so well...hat off to george
Ive always been for House Targaryen until the end. Now theyre coming back to televisiom and i cant wait. I waited 2 years for this since its announcement and now its here ❤
I love the Valeryons being dark skinned because the diversity in Valyria and maybe there were Asian looking Valyrians, different races in the most advanced city in the world there were no racism it just goes to show how advanced they were, people hate what they don't understand
It's such an intricately woven universe. I loved Fire & Blood and especially the ambiguity of a lot of the Targaryens. Can't wait for the show and the new book!
By the god's I wished this man could live forever! Hearing him speak about this world he created in his head and yet it feels as if it is a world one could visit in real life...wow
