Yes! Omg I forgot that one, thanks for putting that in! ❤️ but if you’re reading this and you are someone who cannot afford “high end” or “better” hair products at the moment (I know I couldn’t😭) just do the best you can ingredient wise. And go on COSDna.com to check the ingredients of all your products!
@@laurscurls I would say for a cheap silicone free conditioner there is VO5! the strawberry is my favorite, I love it for the slip!! they are like a dollar or less, my walgreens have them.
@@Samantha123121 I heard about that but was always afraid to try it just because where I live I can find them at the dollar tree and that always scared me off but thanks for the recommendation
Thank you for saying a dramatic “big chop” is not necessary. I let my hair grow for a year before I cut off the straight ends. It was a lot less stressful for me. I have since cut the straight ends and my curly hair is amazing!
I can admit that trying to care for my hair naturally feels super intimidating. It feels like there are so many things that have to be done in a certain order and I don’t even know where to start. But after watching this video, I do feel inspired to try again.
Wow, I have mine at the end but if I were you I would just do a big chop. But there is a way to make the top curly. Do the bantu knots. I know you commented that a year ago but hopefully you can still do it
You can definitely get rollers and do bantu knots and twists to retrain your curls it will help a lot. As your hair grows out it will be trained. And do those scalp massages!
my mum relaxed my hair in November 2018, i hated it I was so sad. yesterday was the day I trimmed off all the old bits that are straight until I got too my natural hair. i can’t wait to grow it back again even longer ❤️ it’s short but not really short i can still tie it in a puff using a headscarf x
When I was little I grew up in an all white school and all I wanted was to have straight hair, so I straightened it to the point where it’s severely damaged. My curls used to be like yours but they were a bit tighter. I’ve been trying to transition but my mom prefers straight hair because it’s more “professional”. When I graduate I’m cutting it all off because like...it’s so bad I’m ashamed to have my hair in anything but braids :(
Your hair is so beautiful!!! Also, I love how positive this video is! You're so right about there being a lot of people in the natural hair community that are discouraging and negative, so I appreciate how honest and encouraging you are :)
Be careful with buns I used buns also and got to mid back didn't realize that a part of my hair like a line straight across my head at the bottom was breaking off until my mom straightened my hair and pointed it out. Honestly as long as you rotate where u place the ponytail it's perfectly fine.
i absolutely love your hair. my hair is in the growing stage and its not quite where i want it to be yet. but thankyou for this video because it really gave me great natural hair advice
I agree with everything. you. just. said. 👏🏾👏🏾 I need to get better with my night time routine. Right now, all I do is moisturize my edges and put on a scarf and bonnet.
Really enjoyed this video. I started my transition to natural about a year and 3 months ago now. It was scary, but very liberating now that I'm used to it, and it cooperates most of the time. Knowing how to do various styles helps with your confidence as well. My curls are getting used to being curly again. I definitely need to get the satin pillow case and work on re-incorporating my weekly deep condition routine. Personally I used only Olive oil for a few hours, and my hair LOVED the olive oil. Much more than the moroccan oil and Shea butter deep conditioners and more I've tried i the past. I'll definitely try the greek yogurt recipe. I loved the tip about putting your hair up in the pineapple at night! I'm definitely going to try that, as well as the regular scalp massaging with essential oils. Im really wanting my hair to grow longer, and I feel like my hair is very slow to grow. This was so helpful!
great vid. I live in Jamaica and its so freaking hot all the time and my hair was alwAys frizzy until i started deep conditioning every week and it helped with the frizz. Whenever im not going anywhere i just braid my hair in two and even when im going out i braid my hair in two and put on a hat. My hair is in the weird length so sometimes i dont wanna let it out.
I’m not black (but I’m also not white I’m just really pale lol) and I have 3c hair, my family doesn’t really know anything about curly hair bc they all have straight-wavy hair, so I decided that I’ll just take matters into my own hands, and you’ve been helping me out SO much 🥺 Tysm and keep going!
I just big chopped😫🤪 my hair is Really uneven because i had more heat damage on one side...😭 but i plan on growing it out and cutting it again to even it out. Is that a good idea?? Does anyone have opinions? Please write back!
Ik this is old but I to had uneven hair it's even now and I just let it grow out tbh vs cutting to make it even. It evens out in about 3 months for me. But that's my hair 3b 3c
Hair grows at different rates on the head, so it may even out on its own, but to be sure it is even you can cut it. I think letting it do its natural thing is pretty smart because that way you aren't cutting a lot of healthy hair.
Hello im a new subscriber.. I never was one to believe i had to have a full hair cut..just a trim every six months.. I use a leave in moisturizing conditioner it helps so much.. Satin pillow case ✔ Satin bonnet ✔ Thank you for the post Sincerely Tanja
Hi I’ve just started wearing my hair curly since September and I wanted to know how long was the transitioning stage for you? Your hair is gorgeous btw ❤️
Ty babe & I haven’t! I’ve been warming up to the idea but I hate the feeling of liquid dripping down my neck (weird I know😂) and that’s all I see in the RU-vid vids lol. maybe one day! 😊 do you know of a good one?
Actually I have tried it a couple of times in the shower. I personally like peppermint tea because I love the way it makes my scalp feel but I’m totally lazy so I do it every once in a while LOL. My normal wash and go is enough work 😂❤️ thank you so much for replying hun ✨
I don't know what videos I should be looking at because I am a teenager and I never flat ironed my hair in my life I only blow dry it two times a year I really want curls like a lot of the natural hair community has like yours. I just keep watching all these videos that say cut off your dead ends and do a big chop but I don't have any damaged hair I never dyed my hair, I just need help knowing how to get curls like yours.
You can just follow the other steps Girl! Those are important, even if you don’t have damaged hair. I would also look at “application” videos that show you how to apply certain products to get your curls poppin!
Thank you so much for this video you are very helpful😊😊. you have help me to have peace In transitioning, training my curls . I have the same texture and hair porosity like yours and every time I start I will get discourage but you have given me hope again. Thank you soo much . 💜🥰☺️
I've been natural for about 10 years now... but I've struggled with sticking with a hair routine.... my go to products are shea moisture coconut curling cream and milk cream.... cantu jamaican castor oil gel, 3 minute miracle.... but I notice I shed alot and my ends are always dry... so i can't maintain length ... everything that grows eventually has to be trimmed again.
Okay so I wear braids most times because my hair is damaged from a perm that my hairdresser put on by accident and it damaged it I was freaking out and I’ve let it grow out it’s still straight I’m going to cut it little by little and deep conditioning hope this will help my problem is that my hair isn’t out as much to make a routine should I just do as much as I can when I don’t have braids in?
Im trusting to guide me on this. Regrowing out my 3B high porosity hair and it touches my lip. What's the mixture you do for your olive oil, greek yogurt and honey?
Would using a diffuser comb on a blow dryer still cause heat damage? My curls struggle and fall quickly when dried (my hair's super damaged) so we invested in a diffuser to see if it'll help but I'm afraid that it'll cause heat damage too.
I'm 5 months post relaxer thanks to covid, I've been struggling with how to style without heat, even if I detangle like crazy, I can't air dry because the relaxed portion tangles really badly, I get fairy knots and I can't always safely untangle them without taking some extra pieces with it :( Does anyone have tips on how to tackle this without the blow dryer?
I am relaxed as well and I have the same problem with air drying. I watched a video here and I found out about "Kinky-Curly Knot Today" it's a detangler and a leave in and its AMAZING!! I bought it for $12 at Walgreens and it was worth it it's all natural ingredients which is great! I use it before and after on wash days. I hope this helped💜💜
So when transitioning should we air dry or? I usually blow dry but I wear a lot of protective styles and end up washing only every 2 (sometimes 3) months depending on how long I keep the braids or sew in in my head and I usually blow dry after.
i had a semi big chop in the beginning of september (i had waist length hair and now it is just above shoulder length) my hair was never relaxed or chemically treated, just heat styled, so i thought maybe i would start seeing some difference or growth. it's just really tiring wearing my hair in a bun every day. it also doesn't help that my whole family is very disapproving of my transition because of the culture where I live and straight hair being considered beautiful. i'm just writing this because i am kinda frustrated by how little progress i've made (feels like none, since i can see absolutely no growth at my roots) and need some help. i have looked all over the internet for curly hair and transitioning videos but most things won't work for me. protective styles like braids seem great but aren't really an option for me because i do ballet. its really inconvenient because of the strict rules and dress codes and we NEED to wear a neat bun every day. okay now i'm just rambling. if anybody has any more tips, please help me! thanks!
I just started. My hair is 3/4 down my back but I’ve been getting it washed and pressed for 2 years but I just started washing my hair and there’s NO CURL TO MY HAIR. help me what do I do for low porosity hair.
I'm going through same thing- and I had do many relaxers and perms and I always straightened my hair but now I'm transitioning. Best way to gain your curls back is to basically just completely cut out the heat- I mean no type of heat at all. And find a routine, look for products for low porosity ( Shea Moisture has a good line). On top of that like she mentioned, make sure you really take care of it at night. I would twist it, braid it n keep it in a satin scarf, then get some braids/weave etc. Do this for some months and your hair will flourish! **Also remember to trim your ends monthly or however, just keep a timeline so you don't trim it irregularly :)
Hi bby I totally get that, low/high buns, high ponytails, half up half Downs, French braids, and wigs are all great protective styles :) any low-manipulation style that takes minimal effort that essentially tucks your hair away is a great choice
So sorry to hear :/ but listen, I dealt with the same exact problem, it may take a while but a few good trims and protein masks will do the trick overtime! Hang in there You got it 💕
Do y’all mind dropping y’all night routines for 3c/4a hair but my ends are still straight in not doing a big chop I’m gonna chop it off little by little but I I just really need a routine so if you guys mind lmk😭😭
heyy! i chopped off certain sections at a time. like first the sides then some of the top. not the point, i deep condition once every 2 weeks or once a week. but regularly, i shower and condition then de tangle in the shower and once i rinse i leave a lot of water in so it’s easy to style put the shower. then i smooth in leave in, NOT RAKE bc that causes frizz for me then put in a ponytail and use a denman brush for the ends and finger coil the ends then scrunch with gel
It really wasn’t that hard considering a couple of months meant 6+ (maybe I should have clarified that better in the video!! My apologies) I’m sure factors such as genetics and diet come into play, but I have not seen so much growth until I started doing my scalp massage regimen. I have multiple pictures on my Instagram to show my growth over the few months around the time this video was made if you’re interested!
