every curly girl's story is the same, we straightened the hell out of our hair until one day, we realized how beautiful our hair is and began to take care of it :)
I have been straightened my hair for 11 years all my life yes I’m 11 because I thought I would look better and everyone would do it :( so now my ends are straight but my roots are really curly I’m starting my hair Journey I haven’t straightened or permed my hair for months I now you might not care but if anyone sees this take the best care of your hair :)
#1: time #2: no heat, don’t diffuse on high heat!! #3: products! you don’t need expensive products, invest a little into a good set of products. (Shes moistures or John Frieda line is good to start) #4: deep condition at least once a week to moisturize while you transition! #5: to stimulate hair growth do a scalp massage once a week at least in the shower #6: start finger curling your hair to help stimulate curls when starting transitioning #7: if you’re lazy do protective styles instead of styling curls! (Braiding after showers, use head wraps, headbands) #8: the BIG chop, get a trim or cut of some sort when transitioning, then eventually chop the DEAD ends, if you don’t it will stunt hair growth. #9: find your hair type. #10: take pictures once a week to track curl growth and for encouragement !!!!!!!!DO NOTS!!!!!! #1: don’t use a cotton towel to dry hair #2: don’t brush when dry #3: don’t compare to other girls hair, you’re hair is different! and beautiful
I ruined my curls because I was embarrassed by them and I got a treatment to straight it and thanks to the quarantine I couldn't get the treatment and my natural root has grown curly. you inspired me to let it grow I learned from your videos how beautiful curls are
wow it’s been 3 months since you’ve commented this, hope you’re still growing your beautiful curls, i’m pretty sure they’ll be gorgeous at the end of this journey!!
@@halahossam8271 same😔 my hair was frizzy so i got straight perms last year but i didn’t realize they were curly so now i’m waiting for the curls to grow back☹️
I've been properly curly for a year now but I didn't use to straighten my hair that much but I also wasn't caring for my hair like it was curly and I would like to point out that not caring for your curls can also damage your hair, regardless of whether you use heat or not. Now I am the most confident I have ever been because I wear my curls proudly :)
Yes gal, this was me around 3 and a half years ago, I Didn't know how to style my hair after my mum stopped doing it for me and my hair was constantly in a bun dry damaged not from heat but from breakage Because I would tug it and brush it while it was still drying. I hated my hair and it made me feel insecure most days! If you don't want your hair big and curly maybe try braiding it when it's wet because it comes out neat and you don't have to brush it when dry buttttt this can cause dandruff so be careful x
@@Lily_of_the_Forest it took me a while to realise this too but my curl pattern is so much tighter and more bouncy than it used to be just because I loved and cared for my hair like it was curly. Even if you don't have products to use just follow Jayme's no product curly hair routine and your curls will come back x
When I was 12 I used to straighten my hair every single day until I was 14 and that’s when I realized that my hair was LITERALLY fried and then I started my hair journey and your videos HELPED MY HAIR SOOO MUCH 💜💜😭
That is amazing! I feel so happy that I found this comment because is the exact same thing that happened to me!!! I'm 14 right now (freshman) and I've been acting for years now and every job that I have has loved my curls! But as I got older around middle school time, I had to straighten my hair for jobs more often. I would straighten my hair about 1 every 2 months for all of the 6th and 7th grades until I had jobs back to back all of the 8th grade. I didn't wear my natural hair for a single day in 8th grade until the girls at my school would say rude things to me about wanting to be white and how I'm not black because my hair wasn't curling anymore. I decided to work on my hair and I've been natural for 2 months now!!
When I was a kid my mom used to brush my hair while it was dry because she didn't know how to care for curly hair. My whole family has straight hair and I'm the only one with 3a to 3b hair 🤣 by the end of quarantine I want to have the best curls 😂👌🏻
I was 16 when my mum convinced me to permanently straighten my hair because my curls were “ugly.” I’m turning 20 in a week and I regret letting her take me to the hairdresser everyday. I miss my natural curls.
idkwhattocallmeself I totally understand what you meant! The reason why I used to hate my curly hair was because my mum used to negatively talk about it (and because having curls as a chinese is super rare, I used to envy straight hair) and even encouraged me to permanently straightened my hair. I’ve permanently straightened for 3 years and i truly miss my curls. Now my curls is growing back and I can’t wait to take care of my curls!!
You ladies are so beautiful and kind. My natural curls have started to come back and my mum tells me everyday that she hates my hair but I don’t care. I’m gonna grow my natural hair back but it looks so weird atm cause it starts off wavy then it goes dead straight. I am planning on cutting my hair when enough of my natural hair comes out.
I didn't use heat that often but i always brushed my curls out and used like really heavy oils. I am soooo grateful for finding someone who actually helped me how to take care of curls.
My god same story I am 15 and I am starting to wear my curls naturally Can we be freidns if you have time of course I need some help especially that you have same story as me
@@frankocean6685 yeah actually. But when you put too much in your hair, it can damage your curls a lot. Because it will weigh down your curls. And I did it a lot when i was younger.
When I was little I had perfect curls spirals because I didn’t straighten my hair but when I started going to school I got bullied because I was the only one in my class that had curly hair. Eventually I started straightening it with a blow dryer and straightener but now I love my curls so much but it’s damaged❤️❤️ I love ur channel💜
I have wavy 2C- 3A hair but only on the bottom half of my head (i cut it in a short bob so the damaged part was gone and it grew healthy underneath) and my top layer is so fricking heat damaged it barely holds a 2A wave. This video gave me hope!
i am literally living proof that your hair will get better!! it’s kind of a rough road but my hair was so damaged from heat and bleach! it’s been almost a year since i started my “journey” and i still have dead ends but i’m so happy with how far i’ve come!
Exact same! My curls at the bottom layers of my hair are coily, kinda soft, and are more or less actually curly. The top layers of my hair are pretty straight and dry no matter how much moisture I try to add, I suppose. I got a satin pillowcase, I try not to touch my hair, got a diffuser, shower in cold water, use CGM approved products and STILL. ugh I'm so tired
@kiki champ nooo.. been a year and the top layer is still flat and stringy. I'm planning to make a hair appointment for a trim so I will let you know if that helps:)
I used to always straighten my hair with a blow dryer I’m 11 now and am trying to get some of my curls back thankfully my hair isn’t that heat damaged but they aren’t like they were when I was little
Cloudy tears it may not be entirely your fault that your curls are different than when you were little. My hair changed a lot when I went through puberty but I still love my wavy curls. I’m sure yours are beautiful! :)
Same for me, when I was little it was super tight curls but I had a shaved head for a solid 5 years so when it finally grew back out it was just a little wavy, I definitely want my curls back
At first I was always putting my hair in a bun and a lot of people kept telling me your hair is amazing why do you put it in a bun but now I got used to taking care of it and everything
I definitely agree with a big chop! I had naturally straight hair my whole life until like 4 years ago my hair started transitioning to curly! It was crazy I didn’t know how to take care of curly hair. I used to flat iron my hair everyday which caused my curls to become heat damaged as they were growing. My hair was so frizzy and damaged that in October of last year I cut my hair to my shoulders! It made a huge difference and brought curls! Thank you for your tips! ❤️
I have been straightening and Ironing my hair past 7 years without any knowledge about my hair type or that I had curly hair now Im one month in to transition and this video is very useful loved the way you talk and explain things ❤
my mom used to straighten my hair ALL the time, and i would always take care of it like straight hair and always brush is dry. then i realised one time when it got wet and i didnt blowdry it straight that it was actually really pretty, and then i started my curl journey, and it has been SUCH A LONG JOURNEY and im still not at where i want to be, i wish there was a way to speed it up lol.
I discovered LAST NIGHT that my hair is naturally curly! After getting a perm when I was 16, to manually curling it constantly since it's been bleached, curly hair is something I always wanted but never thought I had (I would always blow dry and brush it straight after washing it) and all it took was a bit of sea salt spray and letting it air dry to realise they were there! Thank you so much for this video, rocked my natural curls today and have just reset them and applied some moisturising creams and they look even curlier than last night! Thank you angel Xxx
I have been straightening my hair everyday since I was 14... I am 27 now and finally to start rocking my 3A curly hair... Its going to take a while until I can finally see my healthy, bouncy, natural curls back... Can't wait!
exactly how i felt when i was in 7th grade , i really hate it so much since everyone around me don't have curly hair . They started to call me weirdos n stuff and i decided to straighten my hair . But now , i just want to bring my curls back and get rid off my damaged hair . Love your vids ! 💜
Thank you so much for this video, this is the second time I'm transitioning and your videos help me so much! Before I damaged my hair, my curls looked like yours (3B), right now they're frizzy and wavy, but finally ringlets are starting to show! Also I tried the unicorn method to cut my hair and it did wonders for my hair 🤩 Having curly hair was always hard for me, since everybody in my family has straight hair, I always felt like there was something wrong with me 😔
Oh my God, I literally started my journey back to my curly hair today after watching your older videos. And after doing all of it today, I still see my hair is straighter in some areas and wavy and not the curliest and started to get upset. I'm so glad you uploaded this video at the right time. I've always kept it in a tight braid and now have awkward curls that are sometimes waves. I can't wait to have my curls back. Wow I really wrote a novel 😂😂
@@izymelendez hi! So I slightly gave up in the middle because I wasn't in the best mental bubble. However I restarted, and made sure I had good products in hand by researching first. I made sure to fully understand my hair porosity (high) and what it needed. So im currently a month in and I think my hair is coping well. ☺
@@faridahabdulqadir9954 that is awesome I’m so happy to hear that !! I need to figure out what’s my porosity!! The only thing I know is that my hair LOVESSSSSSSS proteins absolutely loves it whenever I put anything that has protein in it Curls so much
i had really pretty curls when i was younger. im 17 now and my hair is so sparse due to stress and my curls almost disappeared and im starting to believe that im not curly anymore when the pattern is clearly there.. i tried different methods and some work and some dont but they never turn out voluminous and they are frizzy idk what to do :(
Hair is getting sparse and your curls have disappeared...? Girl, that could be that you are underweight (malnourished) or anemic. Stress alone doesn't change your hair this much. Are you also felling cold, dizzy when you stand up fast, tired all the time...?
I went on this journey too! I was born with curly hair and always tried to change it and conform to the norm. Now, it's so damaged and I'm trying to go back to how it was. I'll follow these tips, Jayme. THANK YOU
I’ve never straightened my curls but I used to always wear my hair up in a ponytail EVERY day. I’ve been using curl defining gel for like 2 years, but now I learned and bought a couple (trusted) curl products. In the beginning of the year my curl pattern was pretty good but now my curls are so loose and aren’t defined.
I started my journey in April thanks to you and finally now in August I’m able to go out with my natural curls confidentially! They don’t look their best now but I’m definitely getting somewhere and I’m happy
I had extremly curly hair when I was a baby, then I got my first hair cut and it was all over... Now it is super wavy(not the wavy I like) so I straighten the crap out of it and I really want my hair to go back to the beautiful girls they were
Hey Jayme, I believe I have type 2C/3A hair, but I have a hard time keeping definition in my curls by day 2/3/4...I’m also still a bit puzzled when it comes to what products to use and in which order. My hair ends up feeling dry and brittle by the end of day 3, especially when I try wetting it again and it dries. I’m so clueless 😅 my hair is also down to my mid-lower back now. I guess my problem is, I don’t put A LOT of product on shower day because my hair is prone to getting oily at the roots, and I don’t put just a little because I want curl definition.
try a leave in conditioner!!! you seem to mainly struggle with dryness. just make sure that you apply it at the mid shaft and down. also, try deep conditioning fairly often! as much as once a week :)
Paige Love thank you for the reply! What deep conditioners do you recommend?! I’ve only used the briogeo one and the Shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil one that smells like play dough lol
If your scalp is oily but you want more definition you should really clarify first before shampooing or use a clarifying shampoo. Work it in really well with shampoo scalp brush and it makes your hair really dry/stripped that way you dont have to feel worried or hold back when layering products. I have the same hair type. I recommend bounce curl clarifying shampoo or the curl smith scalp line. For added moisture I would use shea moister curl enhancing smoothie, bounce curl leave in conditioner or one of curl mix moisture products, after washing and detangling of course. I usually do a hair cream or leave-in after I brush my hair when its dripping wet, then finger coil and scrunch it or just scrunch with microfiber towel. Then add gel with prayer hands on top and underneath, no raking. Then air dry or diffuse on low air with medium heat without moving or touching. When hair is completely dry, seal with a jojoba based or grapeseed based hair oil for softer look, or seal with bounce girl hairspray for harder look. This process usually gives me definition that lasts for days if I sleep in bonnet or silk/satin pillowcase. If i want more volume i shake at roots when dry. For refreshing I use shea moisture coconut hibiscus hold and shine moisture mist. When you notice your roots getting oily again then it's time for another wash day.
@@urdoseofsaratonin shea moisture argan oil sea kelp deep condition works great on our hair type as well as curl mix deep condition, and curl smith deep condition
Amy O'Connor I just screen shotted all of this! Thank you so much for taking the time to type all of this. I’ve heard great things about Bounce curl and also Curl Smith. 😭🙏🏽
I started my transition after watching some of your vids (thx youtube recommandations) maybe 2 weeks ago and I started to be less motivated. I am the kind of person to be super frustrated if I see no result or if it's not working as I wanted it to work.. Let's not give up hope, I am only at the beginning of my long hair journey so thank you so much for your videos that are a big reminder of loving and taking care of my hair 💛
Thank you Jayme for being constant with your videos and being an important part of my curly hair journey. Over a year now since I started my journey watching your videos that I know each one of them by heart. Thanks!!!!!! For everything
You are incredibly adorable. I love your gorgeous 3B hair. I can’t believe you’re not 20 yet! So accomplished, knowledgeable. You have no idea how lucky your generation is, we had NONE of these products when I was growing up! They didn’t emerge till the mid-late 1980s and they weren’t great. The great ones didn’t come out till the late 1990s-2000s. I’m a 3A so my hair flops on top, no height.
Im 5 months no heat all thanks to u amd my curls r THRIVINGGGG. I obviously still habe bad hair days but theyre so much better and i can actually style them and go out with them down. U have no idea how thankful i am for u..and u also dont use unreasonably priced products so i can buy the products myself (im 14 lol)💛💛💛👑👑💫
i needed this today! i'm a hater of curls, well i was until like 2 weeks ago! i'm so in love with curls now,i absoultely love my curls! curly hair is my new favourite!
i remember after i had chopped basically all of my hair off, i was left with a very short cut that looked like my hair was growing out after a shave. obviously it wasn’t, but as my hair grew out i started to become obsessed with finding my hair type. mind you, i always considered my hair to be straight. but, after i started to scrunch and finger-coil my hair as it grew out, it became more and more curly. finally, after about a year of growing my hair out, it was around 2 inches past my shoulder. the day before i got my haircut, i washed my hair, scrunched it dry, and went to bed. the next day, my hair was unbelievably curly. the curliest it has ever been. i was so happy and even after i got my hair evenly cut, it continued to remain curly just by scrunching. but i grew so obsessed with making it more curly, i actually lost my curls. my hair became so dependent on products and heat, that only after a day or two of styling and diffusing, it’d go back to being wavy and frizzy. the more i styled, the less curls i had. my hair barely has any waves anymore. i’m honestly embarrassed of my hair. it’s so thick yet so frizzy and dry. it’s been almost a year, and i’m trying my best to move away from heat. i hope i can find my curls again. my hair is my pride and i havent felt pretty ever since i lost my curls.
I have never really hated my curls but I didn't take care of them either. Today I'm 14 years old and I have started to see that curls are beautiful. I think I have 3a curls but most of my hair is like wavy. I have some curls at the back that look like 3a but the rest are wavy and some are even straight. I really do want to know what my curls would look like. Thanks for the tips. :)
Do you do any henna treatments? Your hair is so shiny and healthy! Do you do any hair masks? I saw your no products routine and my hair is waaaay too frizzy without a little cream, and the shrinkage is so bad!!
Cake Princess She most likely has low porosity hair. If you have high porosity that means your pores are more open and can easily frizz up faster, which means your going to need creams and oils to seal the pores and keep moisture out. There are hair masks that you can use to help though, but again it’s all about your hair type :)
Bleached my hair 9 or more times, dyed multiple times (stopped counting) and always straightened it. Took 14 years of people telling me I have beautiful curls for reality to kick in, so here I am trying to save my curls.
watching what I need to do while transitioning when I thought that just stop straightened my hair would work, I'm on my second month and I need to start doing that NOW
My mom and siblings all have straight hair so when I came along with my curly hair she didnt know what to use and how to style them so she just starightend and brushed it out everyday. And now here I am trying to figure out what I can do and your channel has helped me so much!
I am currently starting to transition! I can’t wait to get my natural curls back💗 could you please try out the olaplex no.3, I’ve heard it works wonders on curly hair but I’m afraid to try it out😭🤍
I have 2b/2c and doing olaplex treatment once a month did wonders for me! But always make sure you deep condition after it in order to make the olaplex really give you the best results. :) Also use it with caution, I once used too much and it wasn't a good hair day! :D
I’m in the same situation, no one around me had curls so I would straighten them and brush it out and I hated them. And now in quarantine I’m 15 so I’m transitioning out to my curls and now I love them
Sometimes we lose our curls just by aging. Focus on making your hair healthy. My hair was 3a-3b when I was young, but sadly it loosened to waves by my teen years. Didn’t straighten it much and hardly used heat. It was just getting older. Something we have no control over. If it stays curly, you are blessed! Everyone please go cruelty-free for your beauty products. Thank you.
As a young kid i didn’t like my curly/wavy fluffy hair. Now my hair turned almost straight and not that fluffy anymore, i want my curly/wavy hair back:(
Thank you so much for this video. I have had keratin done 4 times. I never liked my curly hair until only recently I noticed how much I love curls. SO THANK YOUUUUU
@@lindseylowe8344 No it doesn't count, taking warm showers is actually good for the hair since it opens up the pores but at the end to conceal all the stuff you put in it you should rinse with cool water. But if its to hot I think hair is more fragile (I'm not 100% sure I just know you should you warm water not too hot)
I had soooooo cute curls when i was like 6 (3b) but i started to straighten my hair when i was like 10 and now i have like really really thin hair which is also just kinda wavy (2b)...i miss my old hair and really want it back so im gonna do it☺️
My mom never knew how to take care of my really curly hair so she just straightened it when I was REALLY young- and I really want my hair to be curly again :]
Hi Jayme! I have a quick request! So I want to start doing finger coiling and I just checked out your video but that video has the devacurl products. Do you use any new products nowadays?💕
Thank you so much!😊you're the reason why I got motivated to go back to my natural curls! I honestly wasn't in touch with the curly girl community and I thought I was the only one that felt insecure about my hair, so again thank you!❤❤❤
when I was in around fourth grade I had a big problem with hair self confidence since I went to a school with mostly white people and it made me want straight hair but I didn't know how and my mom didn't want me to straighten it so I always had it in a braid and never would Un knot it so it was messing up my hair. Guys leaving your hair in specific hair styles kills it. I left my hair in a bun for so long it got so knotted I did a big chop from my hips to my ears. Now I know how to style my hair but I'm still learning thank you so much!
I am trying to get my curls back right now but the only thing is my curls are really pretty wet and when the first dry and then after like 3 hours they were weird and because I just started taking care of my hair and stoped using heat it’s is also struggling to stay in. For me I am not a patient person so it is really hard for me to just wait for my hair to be nice and curly again.
Hello jayme I haven't heat damaged my hair...but it was kept in tight braids for years...Now my hair look like the left picture in your thumbnail......will it ever be curly again?... Thanks for all the help tho❤
Oh my gosh this is exactly what happened with my hair. My mom love putting it in protective TIGHT styles and I just feel like my curls haven’t been the best and they shead A LOT and are brushed dry so I think that this with a combination with a few other vids would help a lot
i used to straighten my hair everyday and i even got a brazilian blowout because i thought my hair was just frizzy but now imma take care of my curls😭 theyre slowly coming back tho! the front pieces of my hair and bangs are realllllyyyy curly
Always bringing us gold content👏🏼 I would like to mention that diy hair masks have been so good to me, BUT it's important to inform yourself before using them, specially about the moisture and protein balance part, cause I did a big mistake with that at the beginning and it was a big step back in my transition. But if you learn how to use them they'll be your best friends in this journey. Plus it's a cheaper and healthy way to deep condition, give protein, shine and many other good things to your curls. Loved the video so much dear Jayme❤
Use natural stuff, it does the job. Such as flexseedgel and hande made masks with eggs, avocado, aloevera and honey. There is an overload of natural products you can use in Lebanon, that are fantastic for curls. Or if someone comes from another country, let them bring some products. They last a very long time.
Thank-you ,i also have like really naturally curly hair ,n I didnt know what to do with it,like I'm so happy that I found you, bcos now I feel like there's hope for my hair ,😊😊so thank-you
I used to straighten my curly hair a lot during school time and now I had so less voluminous hair .. and I cry 😭 every time when I should go outside ... I want my hair healthy now ... please anyone provide me solution 😞😞
i used to have naturally straight hair when i was about 10 it started getting a bit wavy. I lived in mexico for about a year and i noticed my hair looked more wavy/curly i started to straighten it a lot (not important but i got bangs) now my hair is straight from the top, my bangs are growing out and they are wavy/curly, the middle of my hair has a bump and then the rest of my hair is straight i’m trying to get my hair back to being wavy/curly
