the horus heresy books are fantastic. Grim dark, gritty, sci-fi books that are 10 to 18 hours long and up to 50 books. It’s the only reason why I got an account and I say it’s worth it.
@@kelly_savage That’s awesome and so do I! I love the books for the mass creativity. So many stories of different events and perspectives happening at once. Characters of unshakable courage and honour. In a dark time of brothers killing brothers. It has the typical sci-fi space ships and Aliens but a strong fantasy element that surprises readers of literal hell demons invading.

Took me a ridiculous amount of time to find an accurate helpful description on Audible so thank you so much! Everywhere I looked it seemed to be described as "The Spotify of books" which is clearly not the truth 😅 Been using the app a week now since I watched this video and already got through two books! 👍
@@kelly_savage Sherlock Holmes is one, I'm a fan of the TV series so thought I had to give the books a try! Other is God of War, usually fantasy settings for stories aren't really my thing as I prefer more grounded realistic stories but I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book 😅
The first sentence you Said, I was like, yeah I found that out the hard way. Everyone always talks about Audible and says it's so amazing, but no one ever clarified that you can only get 1, or maybe 2 books per month. I did not know this until I joined and had to find out for myself. Audible is basically acting like a middle man for buying the book because the cost of the membership per month is around the cost of 1 discounted book. I'm not mad because I'll at least finish one book before moving on to the next. But I just fear even after sampling, I might end up not liking the book
I’ve had Audible for 3 years. I’ve taken breaks, my books are still available to listen to,I collect Sylvia Browne, Shirley MacLaine, Diane Keaton, and many classics I have been gone over a year, and just got a welcome back price for 3 months Also you can listen to your books on many devices
Audible has a nice platform and I find it reasonably priced. It's great if you like collecting your books and having quick access to them. Many local libraries offer the same service at no cost, you may not find every single book available but you'd be surprised how many new books you'll find.
I have been a member 2014, I have 580 books in my Library. Audible has added an “Included” list which are books included in your membership fee. They are a bunch of them and they are for the most part very good.

Thank you for the great explanation. Amazon doesn't explain this. I think I'll just rip audiobook MP3s from RU-vid and listen to them that way. If Amazon did have an unlimited monthly subscription then I would buy that.
Have subscribed to Audible recently and found it very reasonable once I got my head around it not being like Netflix. What I did find good value was the £3.00 sale where I purchased another 5 books, saving a lot of money on the original price. Maybe not for everyone but it has certainly increased my exposure to books that would have taken me forever to read as a hard copy.
It actually does take a while to get through the books, so I do think it makes sense somewhat that its not completely like netflix. Wow, thats great actually I didn't realise they did sales, I'll have to look out for the next one - thanks! :)
Actually you can change your mind you can return your book up to 3 times! I think it's worth it because you get free books and you get to keep one in your library! And keeping one in your library is a big deal for me because I collect them! I occasionally buy and extra book too and the pricing is very fair so that is not a big deal.

Kelly you missed a few valuable item 1 you can vary the speed. Many books I find that I enjoy much more when I hear it at 0.9 speed. The distortion is minimal and it helps comprehension. Other books or podcast, for me, are better heard at 1.1 speed. Some platform allow speed variations but at 3/4 or 1.5 speeds. That doesn’t work for me. There a few more positive things I could say but I will pause here. Long time listener my library is 888 books.😊
The best and cheapest way to do it is to get the years membership upfront for approx £110. you get 24 credits in other words you get 24 books. You can use 5 credits one month to listen to 5 books then just use two credits another month and get two books. If you do it this way it brings the price down to less than £4 a book. And if you use all 24 credits in 7 months it lets you buy another 3 credits for £11 so this way there is no limit to how many books you can buy in a year and all for less than £4 so often cheaper than buying a physical book. Also if you don’t like the book even if you have listened to half of it it will let you return it and refund you your credit. ( again something you can’t do with a physical book.) Finally they have with the latest version of the app changed it so you can choose your book and download it via the app rather than having to go to the website.
First off want to say, I really like Amazon. Been paying for this service for 3 years. In all those 1,095 days I didn’t redeem the credit I got each month(cause i was under the impression that I canceled). Lost 570 dollars(oof). Kept thinkin I canceled. I love audible. It's teaching me self-discipline. Lol. You only have to buy the books you really need and not just want. Also, they have loads of free books (from the authors I love, at least). And their originals are okay, plus they have great courses which are also good.
Better deal is to just purchase the kindle book and use the spoken content features built in on the Iphone (maybe other phones have this also). Then u get the book (ability to highlight etc) as well as the audiobook without paying for them separately or paying extra bc u got both

You are so sweet, I could listen to you for hours, my first time in your channel, I was just trying to find out if audible was worth because I'm want to "read" some books on the go, you know, for personal growth and knowledge and also make good use of time. ¿Did you ever consider to do a podcast or something like that? There are several false statements here.. 1) You can definitely purchase and download selections in app. 2) If you don’t like your selection you can most certainly swap it out. You don’t even need a customer service agent to do so. You can do it yourself in app. 3) When your selection is made it is yours forever even if you cancel your membership.
Hey Kiana! Yes since I made this video they added the option to purchase in the app which is great!! I had no idea you could return but a couple of other people have said this in the comments too and i'm so happy about this because I've definitely regretted previous purchases!

Actually. It sort of does work like that now. Members now have 1000's of free audio books. As many as you like at the same time. Down load, or even stream direct from Audible with no need to down load any longer. The free titles are good titles too, not the usual dross.
Haven’t looked into it yet, but it seems there is a « Netflix of books » for Audible, and that’s Kindle Unlimited. From what I read, you can read and/or listen to all the ebooks/audiobooks you want without buying them not keeping them. Basically streaming for books…
@@kelly_savage I heard from recent info that it included audiobooks… but anyway, I then watched two other videos (one being from you) explaining that only a limited selection of books was on offer… which to me kills it, since I want very specific books that are unlikely to be part of the Unlimited offer (would still need to check that fact). I mean come on, music streaming services boast themselves of having virtually everything and not just select titles, so why not the same for books (if not for profit)?
I have been using audiobook for 6 months. I have been able to return 2 books. The one thing you have to return it within the first or second chapters. You also have to give them a reason. I wanted more books but had no more monthly credits left so I bought 3 credits for $30 dollars Canadian.

Not to mention that Audible has 100's, maybe more of free to members Podcasts and speciality commissioned series on many subjects, done by house hold names. All free to members too.

I dont know if your library has this but my library has a free app called overdrive, its totally free just need library card but you are limited to the library and can only keep the book for 14 days. If you are surching out audio books might want to check it out. I liked your reviews 😊😁 they answered alot of questions I had so thank you for all your efforts. Good job! Just started listening to audiobooks using play books. Rest of the books got expensive ( £8-15). So I got audible subscription now (1 credit and 1st month free)

I don’t get it so people pay 16 usd a month to get 1 credit which is basically the same as buying a 16usd book every month and to have some aditional discounts? How is that worth it????
My primary question with this is: "Do I own a copy of the audiobook? Can I download it DRM free? Is it only streaming? No one seems to answer that. I don't want a Netflix audiobook app. I want to own what I buy and have it so I can listen even with no cell service or internet connection. What is the purpose of a monthly fee if I only get to "buy" one book a month?
I'd say its a bit of a combo of both! So technically you do own it, you can download it and listen to it offline and you do keep it even if you stop your subscription. However, you own it through the app. So it's not technically streaming, you keep it and can listen to it offline but only through the audible app

You can return books my love but you need to do it on a laptop or desktop computer. You have 12 months to return a book and get your credit back or your money if you paid.
Thank you for clearing this up for us. 5:37 was definitely me 😂 I was devastated that I could only read 1 Carey Mulligan narrated book during my 30-day free trial. Now I have to spend $16.49 a month (Australian dollars) for the next three months to be able to listen to all of the books narrated by Carey 🤦♂️ EDIT: No way! I just chose a book to listen to and they just charged me $1 after using my 1 credit. Does this only happen during our free trial?
If you wanted to read the book instead of hearing it is there a way to visually read the book as well. My sister is losing her hearing that's why I asked
I believe there is another drawback to audible and that is you don’t seem to get the full book take for example’’ Behold A Pale Horse’’ I’m not sure if there are others but just saying.
I usually listen to books from the public library. However, there are long wait times and I don’t always find the books I want to read in audio format.

So basically, for the price of standard access to Netflix or 2 dollars MORE per month than an Amazon Prime subscription you get to listen to ONE audible book of your choice and access to free books you probably have no interest in listening to. Do I have that right? If so, this is an absolute and shameless RIPOFF and I see absolutely no benefits except to help line the pockets of the Amazon bigwigs. Who would want this?
Hi Leslie! Yes I think it would because unlike other subscriptions you basically buy the book using your credit meaning you can come back to it anytime even if you discontinue your audible subscription in the future! Let me know how it goes ☺️
You do get all the audiobooks you want, you just have to return them after you finished them. I probably listen to 10 different books every month but only finish 2-3. How ever the return option is hard to fund and cumbersome to use. But still only takes like 1 min to return a book and then 15~ min to receive your credit back.
Could you message me your account please? Listeners like you is the only reason many authors like myself fail to put food on the table. Abusing the return function is disgusting. We already do not make much of the sale but if we could eradicate users like yourself that would be a start.
Other thing you don’t own the book on the monthly service. Also if you get behind and have more credits than time you cant pause subscription and use those without buying more

I think it is a rip off how much they charge for what you get. It would be one thing if it was just a simple to understand flat rate, but how much for each audio and the fact that it isn't even anything physical, nope. Plus I think Amazon is starting to block the Audio Cds for sale for books on here. there was one I was saving for, and now they don't have it. It is a shame that they basically are ripping you off on prices, because they have some good ones on there. And can we just clarify that you aren't reading the book? You are listening to a book. Huge difference and it may confuse some on to what they are getting. You are only reading if you get the book and follow along, but usually there is nothing to follow along on the screen. So it doesn't really count as "reading".
Audible is the dumbest subscription system I have ever used. The credit system needs to be rethought and just rolled into the monthly subscription cost. I don’t want to purchase the books I want to listen to. I just want to listen to them once. Why can’t I do that? Also, the app is EXTREMELY confusing and it doesn’t do everything that you can do on the website. It also lacks features that even the FREE Libby app has. I’ll just continue going to my local library and getting physical audio book copies there.

@@kelly_savage Thanks for the reply. I am just listening to my first audio book, started a trial membership today: "Michael Crichton - Prey". In parallel I try to follow the lines in the real book which I bought a while ago but haven't read so far. I am doing this to improve my listening and pronunciation skills - I am German. Unfortunately the audible version is significantly shortened, sometimes whole paragraphs are even replaced by a totally new summarising sentence. This is not working out as I wanted. I am somehow disappointed now. Are all audible versions shortened? I bought a bunch of Robin Cook and Michael Crichton books in the original English version and actually I planned to "work them through" one after the other.
That’s really strange I don’t know why they would be shortened unless it just depends on the version? I’ve had bits cut out before but only if it’s like a diagram or picture or something that wouldn’t make sense to talk through
Can the audio books be transferred to a speaker? Or like an MP3 player? My phone's battery runs out pretty quick. And so I keep music in an ipod. So my phone stays charged longer.
As far as I can tell, no. There's no option within the app at least, you might be able to find a workaround online somewhere. You can click download in the app but it only downloads it locally on the app. Hope that helps!
Hi Kelly. Saw your review. I decided to subscribe to Audible. Like you, these days I struggle to concentrate on a physical book. (Reader’s block?) Did you mention the Audible Plus catalogue? This appears to be an area filled with free books….I think.
Honestly what makes it more worth it is aside from your credit the free books that are on there a lot of the books that I listen to after I use at my free credit are free stories but thereir books that I already read anyways
I’ve had audible for a year now and haven’t got even one book because it seemed like all books needed a higher subscription. Do the credits I didn’t use all this time accumulate or do you lose them if you don’t use them in any particular month?
All audio books are 1 credit? Pretty gross system, means a new book is worth the same value as an old audiobook? 1 credit? So in real world figures, I see 2 audiobooks 50p vs £9.99, it's 1 credit?
What is the format of the audio books...MP3 ? Plus do you own the audio book, I like to listen in my car and want the ability to put the audio book on a cd or flash drive...is that possible?
