Great video :D Do you know what settings to use for the orion nebula?
@Astrobloke
@Astrobloke 3 года назад
Thank you. For a nebula you would need to us long exposure. Mid to high Iso, around 30sec exposure. You would need to take as many as you could and then stack them in a program like deep sky stacker which is free. For your best chance you would need to find some nice dark skies with little or no light pollution

@Astrobloke
@Astrobloke Год назад
Hi Danielle and thank you. I would love to grab images of the Aurora someday. I do not think there is a specific setting but a long exposure set with this should capture it well. I would try the star mode though as that might work too

I wanted to ask you, in the app we talk about the shutter, but what do you use? because i don't think there is a lightining shutter for iPhone. from the image they look like headphones, can it be? and secondly, what is that square icon under the brightness for in the settings? thank you
@Astrobloke
@Astrobloke Год назад
Hi Davide. I have not seen the remote shutter control thats shown in the diagram. Not sure even if its available. I think you can use the apple watch as a remote trigger though. it seems to blur things a little but would have to search up its true function, its like it softens the sharp levels

believe it or not but with a reflector and a mobile phone and a tracker you can capture really beautiful deep-sky objects or planets depending on the focal length of the reflector

Great video, really helpful. Just a query, the app seems to close iself after about 30 seconds, is this normal or can it be set to remain open as the normal iPhone camera does? Tried loads of searches on this but cannot find any answer....
@Astrobloke
@Astrobloke 6 месяцев назад
Hi and thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Thats strange that it is closing. I use it on an iphone 12 and it stays open all the while I am using it. Do you have a screen saver set on your phone so it shuts off if you are not touching the screen after 30secs? The built in camera app may override this but not realise the nightcap app is the same thing. Let me know if this works. Happy New Year.

Great video. I don't know why but every time i try a star trail exposure, the ISO is constantly changing even though I set it lower. It just means that my photo is super bright and the stars are really faint. Is there any way I can "lock" the ISO to stop it changing?
@Astrobloke
@Astrobloke 3 года назад
You would have to set it all manually in the settings tab. So set it up to do a timelapse with long exposures and then manually set iso etc, the star trails seems to work ok for me. Do you have a lot of light pollution?

It can seem confusing at first. I can try and help if you have a more specific question, otherwise just play about with it and you should hopefully work it out. There are tutorials inside the App also that will help guide you. Good luck

how to take pictures of the Northern Lights with the Night Cap Apps on iPhone 11
@Astrobloke
@Astrobloke Год назад
Hi Patrick. There is no auto mode for this so use the long exposure settings. A good starting point when photographing the northern lights is: aperture f/2.8, ISO 1600 (increase if it's very dark) and 15 seconds shutter speed. Keep in mind that if the aurora is very active (i.e. dances quickly), you need to shorten the shutter speed (up the iso to compensate)
