Thanks for the fantastic tutorial. What iPhone model did you do this on? I only have iPhone X which does not have night mode but I do have the night cap app. Also, where did you get the ISS info that you showed on the right hand side of the screen?

Its a great App that one. Been around for ages, but is really handy. Soon you will be getting a telescope 😁. Amazing to think that is constantly manned that space station, travelling at 17500 mph. Nearly as fast as you drive your Mondeo 🤣

Thanks Grant, we're very lucky! Although if I go to the field up the road it's even more spectacular - Milky Way is usually out in force, I'll try and get up there one day and get some images 👍

Just a tip - don't use Apple's built-in image editor. Use something else like Lightroom (which is free). The reason is Apple's way of manipulating highlights, shadows, exposure etc. is not done properly - it also increases saturation and other parts of the image which are unnecessary. Just try LR with the same settings you use in the Photos app and you'll see the difference.

Hi there, thanks for the comment. I'm well aware of Lightroom and other editing apps, but the demographic that currently use NightCap don't know what Lightroom is, or if they do they may find it complicated. The video is geared towards beginner's and not necessarily people like you or I who have a better understanding. Appreciate what you mean though, I've got another video planned showing how Lightroom can improve these Images 👍

@@DaveWestMedia Totally understand. My main point was that the Photos app editor is not to be trusted that much. I hope Apple will fix those issues in the future. But for quick edits and the fact that majority will use that I guess it's fine.

Hi Dave. Very nice shot with nightcap for iPhone. The skies are clearer due to this coronavirus. Astronomers know they are losing the night sky due to light pollution and searching for darker skies in Eastern Europe. With me being an astrophotogher I'm seeking dark skies now. Pixel 4 really should be used in dark location with little light pollution if you really want to take advantage of it's astrophotography mode. It's amazing how smartphones can now do astrophotography. I remember I was very near to Galloway all dark site and in 2012 I used Samsung Galaxy ace and I attached phone to telescope eye piece and got nice shots of moon. With phone it was impossible to shoot stars with Denab or Vega or even Sirius the dog star. Smartphones has come along way now. I was impressed how Samsung S7 got M31 in pic under light pollution. Hauwei p20 takes fantastic shots of milky way and some deep sky objects like M42 Hydes Beehive cluster and others. Does this new feature improves iPhones star shots? Keep getting shots of the international space station in astrophotos as the ISS won't be used forever. It's great seeing it. You think Apple will take astrophotography more serious in future as iPhone does ok. Some say Pixel 4 is as good as high end DSLR at astrophotography so soon I compare pixel 4 v Canon 6D mark 11 DSLR as I'm planning to get DSLR in August so hopefully October I'll get up to Cairngorms national park or Glencoe and test them both to see which one is best. Pixel 4 is saved under light pollution with Lightroom mobile. Very enjoyable video!!!

Thanks dude!! Yes, I find astrophotography mode works its best on complete darkness - although I usually need to do a little post processing to get the best from the image's. Hope you are doing well 🙏

Can you check and see if you can use the g camera apk on a Umidigi Power 3 cellphone?

It's not supported I'm afraid. GCAM is only supported on Snapdragon based devices. The Umidigi has a Helio P60 processor and therefore wouldn't work with GCAM, sorry.

His David, yes you can achieve this on the P30 using manual mode; For dark sky; RAW ISO 3200 Focus infinity Shutter speed 30 seconds Leave w/b in auto 3 second timer For slightly lighter twilight sky use 200-400 ISO with the same settings as above 👍
