Your tutorial on the lepaul spread lead me to look up the virtuoso cards which lead me to a bunch of cardistry videos and I still watch your channel for flourishes because of your teaching style. Thanks a lot Chris
When Thomas Edison tried and failed nearly 2,000 times to develop the carbonized cotton-thread filament for the incandescent light bulb. And when asked about it, he said "I didn't fail; I found out 2,000 ways how not to make a light bulb," but he only needed one way to make it work.
Chris you inspired me to start cardistry! I recently went through ACL surgery and to keep my self busy for weeks of being in bed I thought of doing magic tricks. Went on RU-vid and the first card video I saw was yours and you really inspired me to pick up the cards. Your videos are so entertaining and fun to watch because of your personality, I really love it. Now I'm hooked to my cards 24/7. I barely use my phone now, my mom used to yell at me saying stop using your phone and now it's stop using your cards lol. Thank you again for introducing me to my new love and passion and please never stop making videos it really makes me happy and want to learn more. Thank you again. Lots of love and God bless.
One thing that seems to really help mean clean up moves is to step away for a while and come back fresh. A small break can really makes a difference. Also for some reason switching up the deck seems to change the mechanics a bit. Each of my decks act a little different. Could just be phycological, but I thought I would share.
How to start cardistry: open up School of Cardistrys youtube channel and start from their first video "grips". Then progress forward. The most important tips i have for beginner cardists: 1. Only focus on the moves you actually like. Otherwise you'll end up wasting your time. 2. Find a community. If you dont have cardist friends irl head over to reddit or discord, the community is the most important thing about cardistry. Without the community, I would've quit over a year ago.
Just ordered my first set of cards, was inspired by your videos and ordered your red knights.. Looking forward to trying out this cool sport. Already into flower sticks and throwing knives, this will complete my trifecta..
Your last part about your mind practicing even when you're not is 100% spot on. We are learning about mindfulness techniques in my cognitive psychology class. Pro athletes use it all the time. Lots of studies have shown it's effectiveness.
I have started practising since 2 weeks, i have the black tiger deck for one week now and I have practised the spring so much, the corners are becoming white..
Love that you mention hand size. A regular bicycle deck almost dwarfs my hands, and at first it was a struggle to even shuffle a deck. Can’t wait to learn more.
Funny thing. Im not exactly a beginner but Im still pretty shit so I still watch your cardistry videos. Plus I like the vibe some of your moves have like hubble.
I started cardistry for a Halloween costume and I had about 3 months to prepare. I'm still very much a beginner but I never thought I would become so addicted to something I just wanted to check out. Thanks for all the help Chris!
I can see the work you put on every video. So well made. Made me smile with the giant cards and the moves you made with them. Just that takes an effort people don't see at first.
Could you teach us the moves at 37 seconds and 23? Also I love the way you see cardistry and the moves that you create. You are a HUGE inspiration to me
0:23 3D by Chase Duncan just look that up and you will find a tutorial. Edit: here you go ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kreCSNWgip0.html
pogs yes lol Amazing what you still have and dont realize until Chris Ramsay says pogs and you instantly think .. I could win so many who wants to play!?
right on man i still have a bunch and it is actually not a bad concept for a game, but the biggest downfall is you need a little space to play so that thing are not interfering with other people. If i knew someone that would play id still play with the commons or duplicates but i love the art on them you cant find old artwork from that era very often that is intriguing except old magic cards but i new got into that unfortunately i guess lol
I watched your top 5 favorite decks of 2017 video just a few months ago. It was suck an intriguing video and you did a fantastic job on describing the cards. It was almost like I could feel what you were felling on each deck. So I bought a couple of your favorite and have learned a lot. I now have all your favorite decks except the smoke and mirrors private reserve and the Dan and Dave private reserve. I never thought in a million years I would be playin with cards like I do. You have gotten me through a lot and you just don’t know it. Peace!
thanks for everything you do you've got me started i am a mechanic and take alot of the moves you've taught me and started doing them with nuts and bolts, gears, my favorite is a nut and bolt that "magically" screw together thanks
Chris Ramsay is clear and his videos unlike others are very simple and entertaining. He has a great way of putting you in to your own comfort zone and level. Good videos, keep it up.
I still have all my POGs. I'm so retro. Anyways, I was dabbling in cardistry after I learned a few card tricks back in school. Unfortunately, I shattered my right radius in a motorcycle accident and have lost dexterity and range of motion. It's ok though, I've got a fidget spinner. Thanks for the awesome videos!
I started cardistry at 20th May 2017 (a year after the video liquid paper by the virts) after seeing that video, I fell in love with cardistry and I'm now 5 months into it and it's been a great experience so far. Tip: finger exercises help you really get better helped me too. Tell me what cut you want me to learn .( I'm into spinny things and comfy things)
im lvl1 magician but.. like a poor guy buying local playing cards like condor. lol but thanks i learn a lot to your tips! (i have a problem about card spring trick!).
Some of those exercises you mentioned were done by Rise Magic, check out their channel on RU-vid. Thanks, Chris: ru-vid.com/show-UCnbSssjaMs0ZYTfAemM4LWg
It’s super interesting bc when I’m learning a new trick, a day after the first time I’ve practiced it, I can do it a lot better than the first time, even tho I haven’t even touched a deck of cards in abt 12h. It’s super cool how the brain processes the new information even when you’re not doing it
Your awesome. I just want to say I stumbled upon your videos on accident. And discovered a passion. Im not very good yet but I can't stop playing with cards. Thank you so much.
46::: artist carpenter wood crafting art illustration/illustrator but love cardistry, takes the place of a fidgit spinner and the challenge is beautiful. *There is a Lee jun Fan(Bruce Lee) practice chart with quotes on the internet that has helped me daily when i feel like I'm not good enough. are you practicing chart,, look it up,
Cardisty is so much fun and i love it. I started out with a False Cut and i developed it into a flurish. Now i have Made three flourishes myself. They are simple but Mine...
Hi Chris it’s Ryan Schaub great video watching it right now you are amazing at magic and cards try- impressions thanks for the inspiration.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️♠️♣️♥️♦️
Guys pls help me to say to chris to teach how to make a magic video Like 'Instagram magic' or "Geil video from reacting to old videos" this would really help us . Thanks guys .. Keep it up chris
Won a free deck of cards from Walgreen at the Kumquat festival in FL. This deck is awful. I've been watching your Videos and have always loved magic. You've made me want to learn a little magic and cardistry. Just purchased two decks from Encarded!
Oh hi. I'm fairly new to cardistry and this video has inspired me. So, you've definitely been a catalyst for me to keep going. Thanks mate! Subscribed. o/
Why are my cards so damn clumpy and sticky, but yet stippery at the same time? Is there a good type of cards? These aren't a traditional deck. The back of the card is all black with a white logo, I'm wondering if that texture of the card is bad, or if they just aren't broken in very good, or if it's simply normal? This is a new deck. Opened 3 days ago, but shuffled around a bit and worked with them. But your piece in here about an old deck being sticky, and a new deck being slick, sums up my 3 day old deck lol.
The reason I started cardistry was because it looked really cool, and it looked like a very fun thing to learn. The first thing I learned was one of your cardistry videos, and after that I was hooked into it. I love it, and it is so much fun to do. Great video Chris.
As someone who constantly fidgets, this weekend like the perfect hobby for me. I used to constantly switch my 7x7 Rubik's cube between checkered and ringed patterns, but this seems way more interesting
I'm a 90s kid, so I know Pogs. Many used to be sold in barber shops and so forth in infamous Miami, FL, where I was born and raised. (; They got a lot here still in the Philippines.
Great vid Chris. Came across your tutorials by accident a few weeks ago (I was actually just looking for a “cool” deck of cards for Poker XD), and never knew anything about cardistry. But seeing you use something that to me at the time seemed so ordinary (playing cards) and transform it into a visually stunning artform really roused my interest. First deck i bought was the Memento Moris (they were just beautiful) and immediately got to practicing some moves. Currently have 4 in my collection and looking at getting the Knights next (Bicycles are actually pretty expensive where I come from. Figured i might as well get decks I really liked XD) Can’t wait for 1st’s release! Thank you for the inspiration! PS: Showed some moves to my gf and actually got her into cardistry now too. Now I’m buying decks for 2. So thanks for that :p
for those who don't have trainers, you can rubber band packets of cards which I did. Nice a4 size deck, that would be awesome if you could do cardistry with that hahaha
Practicing over the bed is the best tool I’ve been using. Because you don’t have to keep bending all the way down to pick up the cards every time you Drop a few. If they fall you can just pick them up where you stand. You might have to bend A little bit. But, it takes a lot of the frustration away.
About 3 years ago I started learning cardisty... I gave up after getting sick of picking up cards off the floor.. I got into yoyoing... I'm back... Haha
I just got myself a deck of cards and will try some cardistry. If I ever get the hang of it, you'll have given me the spark and support for starting. Thanks!
I was thinking.....you should do like a "1 hour special" episode devoted to a small full routine with a few different tricks that we can go learn, and go out and do. You see videos online of one trick at a time, but never a full routine. Can you pull that off for us??!
re: practising over a soft surface vs. hard surface, i found it's also useful, if only for the sake of the cards, to not practise while sitting in a chair, manipulating the cards over my lap. like huck finn learned with the ball of yarn, there is a tendency when dropping something into a lap to instantly shut the legs, which crushes the bahjonkers out of these poor cards ;) standing up over a rug/carpet, or kneeling on a soft bed helps.
Hi Chris this video was very helpfull and visual but my fav cut at 0:33 this is for 100% this music and the timeing is yoooooo but it not as hard as it seems thank yoh for all of your videos you inspired me to do magic
Thanks Chris, like a lot of things, especially on youtube, half of making it look easy is not showing the part where it was really hard. One thing I found that helps me with problem moves is to make the moves very slowly at first, even using your other hand to help stabilize (in a one-handed cut) and to put the cards where they should be and you can then figure out where the cutting hand needs to be and why you keep dropping them. For me, it's usually a matter of where on the fingertip the corner/edge is. A 1/4 inch can be a big difference. Anyway, I started watching your videos to learn some magic tricks to do for my kids and such, but was always fascinated by cardistry, but mostly just to watch. Now the kids harass me for carrying cards everywhere because I also watched your cardistry vids and started wanting to learn more. Lastly, I have your Memento Mori cards and they are simply the best for fanning of all the cards I've used, just so smooth easy to distribute evenly. I hope you make more and do some that are all Ramsey, but closer to traditional card design - think Unchained or DB's Lions series, etc. Thanks again!
Couple things...I think u sould make a video about the different kind of playing cards...like air cushioned,linen,plasic,etc.. another thing is I am diebetic and my skin is always dry and my hands are always dry and I think that affects my cardistry. Do u think dry hands are a issue with the way u handle cards? Just seems like I do better when I really moisten up my hands. THANKS LOVE YOUR VIDS AND CANT WAIT FOR 1ST PLAYING CARDS!!
Hey Chris! I've recently been looking into cardistry since I just love finger-dexterity type activities like this, piano guitar, balisong's, pen spinning and just generally anything that involves a series of slight and precise hand movements to cause a chain of events, but with cardistry I can't force all of my fingers to move with such fluidity, like, etc on stringed instruments I generally use my index, middle and ring finger as I have the most control over them whereas with cardistry it incorporates your thumb and pinkie far more and I just can't quite make the transition, do you have any advice for forgetting muscle memory from pervious things like those so I can focus on cardistry? Because it's always super easy to return to something but hard to learn something new that's so similar yet completely different.
I’m just a 62 year old empty-nester Mom who LOVES close-up magic. Cards are my fave. Coins are great, too. But, CARDS! And I can barely shuffle. Then, online, I run into this CARDISTRY thingy! LOL! Never saw anything like it. Big props to all those who take the time, dedication, have the tenacity to be their best. I watch so much of it. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL, CHRIS! You’re very humble and mad with appreciation for other magicians and cardists. You are so fun and crack me up!
Great video Chris👍 no matter what your videos are about I always look forward to the next one!! But just curious any headphone users only getting sound in the left ear?? 😞
Seems like you consider yourself a professional at cardistry yet you're blown away at cardistry.. which means you know how to do it but YOURE NOT A PROFESSIONAL! Be humble.. sit down.
