I don't wanna draw attention from this wonderful lady because she is so amazing and talented! I still love her videos. But there is an easier and even quicker way to decorate sugar cookies if you're quite lazy: thin out a batch of classic stiff pipeable royal icing till it reaches the consistency of a thick custard??? Idk how to describe it but u should get the point. At this point you could split the thick but drippy icing and colour them whatever you'd like. Lastly all that's left to do is individually dip each cookie and that's it! Perfectly "filled" sugar cookies with no need to pipe a border! Just make sure to let the excess icing drip off and gently shake the cookie after turning it on it's icing side facing upwards for a beautifully smooth finish. From here you can get more creative if you wish. Put on some sprinkles, pipe on some patterns with icing or if you're too lazy to pipe at all, just swirl a couple colours of leftover drippy royal icing and change em up. I probably longed this out but the process is deffo quicker than piping and flooding

Hey just wondering how long it takes for the icing to fully dry once u have completed them and how long it takes for them to go crusty on the top before u do layers? LOVE the cookies btw!! :D
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 2 года назад
Thank you so much ❤ so for the layer to crust over it can take as little as 30-45 minutes if you have a dehydrator or a fan that you can place nearby. If you don't have that then just leaving them on the counter can take a couple of hours (give or take, if your area is humid it could take longer). Then once it's done I'll always leave them overnight on the counter, make sure not to cover them and in about 6-8 hours they should be fully dry!

@@LittleCookieCo Quick question though... if I put too much fill will it spill out or will it stay in because the outline has hardened?
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 3 года назад
If your outline is really thin, and you go to flood (fill the inside with icing) and you fill it a lot, it may go over the border. If your outline is thicker, its harder for it to spill over the sides. Not the end of the world if it does, just let it dry and use a nice and slice it off the side! Once its dry though, it won't move!

@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 3 года назад
You can definitely use buttercream instead of royal icing, it won't quite give you the exact same smoothe look but will look beautiful nonetheless. You'd want to search up a crusting buttercream as it would work best. If you search up the Hutch Oven on instagram, she decorates cookies with buttercream 😊

Thank you so much for these tutorials! I have couple questions I would like to ask about your pipping bags. I noticed that when you show your prepared icing that you have two types of bags, One for the outline and one flooding consistency. Do you use two different bags to make it easier on you to see which one is which or do you use different bags for the flooding consistency because there is a reason for it other than to recognize which is which ? Also would you mind to share what colors and type of icing you used on these? Thank you so much for making these, it is so nice to be able to teach my children and have great quality bonding time while decorating .
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 2 года назад
Hi! I use the same bags, except normally my outline bag has less icing in it than the flood, because I use much less outline than flood. They may look different because of that but they're the same bags! The colours are (all Americolor brand): Red Red Super Black Leaf Green Lemon yellow mixed with some egg yellow Warm brown mixed with chocolate brown Sky blue Electric orange

I have a question. Do we need 2 different types of icing? Flood and Outline? EDIT: I subbed after seeing the first comment...
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 3 года назад
Hi and welcome 😊 you can do what you feel more comfortable. The reason I prefer 2 consistencies is that I don't have to get them perfect, where if I use 1 it has to be just right not too runny so it doesn't fall off the cookie and not too stiff so I can smoothe it out. And I feel like an outline let's me have sharper designs. Also, I dont find it too much more work because when I make my icing I add enough water to make it my outline icing. Then I colour it, take some out and bag it and then add water to thin down whatever is left for my flood.

How long does your cookies last? If I'm giving them as a gift i mean.
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 3 года назад
If you heat seal them in bags or have them in an airtight container on the counter, they can last up to 2 weeks. Or you can freeze them for up to 6 months! Just make sure when you freeze them they're in an airtight container and when you thaw them, don't open the container until fully at room temp or the icing could have condensation and bleed.

No, you only bake before. If you use egg whites, you can buy the ones in a carton that are pasteurized and those are safe to eat raw!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. I’m motivated to try some Christmas themed cookies! What settings should I use for the dehydrator and how long should I keep the cookies in the dehydrator?
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 3 года назад
Yay! Happy to hear you'll give them a go! I try to keep the temperature around 85°F and ill leave them in for 15-20 minutes or until I notice they've crusted over and I can do the next step. And then after each step I put them in again. I've left them longer than that and had no issues either 😊
@stephaniedowning9039
@stephaniedowning9039 3 года назад
These are so cute! I plan to do several of these designs for Christmas! I have always let my flood icing dry overnight before adding any detailing! I don't have a dehydrator; they just sit out on the table. Now this makes me wonder if I can get away with adding details the same day as flooding without having bleeding issues. I would particularly worry about the black stripe and the white stripe on Santa! If you do the red, then the white, then the black, then the yellow, how much time would you allow between each layer? And no bleeding issues?
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 3 года назад
Thank you!! If you add white colour to your icing when you make it, that helps a ton to prevent bleeding! Also, for smaller areas like the belt or white part you can make your flood a tad thicker, which also helps with bleeding as well. You can also use a fan near your cookies to help speed up the drying process. And another rule of thumb is to do the darker areas first and the light, to prevent bleeding as the dry icing sucks moisture and colour from the wet icing (not really for this case because you're not able to, but just so you know) I would make sure to leave enough time so that icing crusts over before doing another layer so that the icing colours don't mix. With a fan it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour maybe.
@stephaniedowning9039
@stephaniedowning9039 3 года назад
Thank-you so much! Do you add white to all of your colored icing as well or just to your white icing? And approximately how much white gel dye would you add to a 4 cup recipe of royal icing?
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 3 года назад
I add it to all my icing, even if some of it will be black or red! I don't really measure, I usually add about a good squeeze or 2 of it.
@ginny4043

When piping the snowflake after piping the background colour how long do I wait before piping the snowflake detail over the flooded first background colour?
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 9 месяцев назад
If you are letting the icing air dry it takes about 45 minutes, or you can use a fan to speed it up and it can take 20-30 minutes to crust over enough to pipe the next layer.

this might be a stupid question but I'm really new to this world. After the icing is dry, is it safe to touch it? Will it be hard or do I need to take care not to mess up the work?
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 3 года назад
Not a stupid question at all! Once the icing is fully dry, I usually make sure to leave them out overnight to be sure they're dry, you can touch them, handle them and won't ruin the icing. They can be packaged in bags, or boxes with no issues 😊

I have a question. I am going to be making decorative sugar cookies for my family across states . How soon can I start making these cookies where they are still good when they arrive the week of Christmas?
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 3 года назад
If you can heat seal the cookies in cello bags (which would be your best option as soon) as they are fully dried, then they would last up to 2 weeks being fresh! They're still good after that but that would be the ideal time to get them there!

I usually dry them in a dehydrator when I'm working on them and then leave them on the counter overnight to fully dry. Do your cookies get soft after they are iced? Mine aren't hard but aren't soft either and are easy to handle. It could be your recipe? They shouldn't really go soft!

Hi , for how long do you dry the cookies?
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 3 года назад
I use a dehydrator so it takes 15-20 minutes for me to move onto the next step. If you don't have one, you can use a fan and it takes a bit longer maybe half an hour or so. And without a fan or dehydrator it takes a while depending how humid your area is. Once they're completely done I'll leave them on the counter over night to make sure they're completely dry.
