Crochet a magic circle using the single crochet method. The magic circle allows you to control your inside holes to be extremely tight or generally loose. The creativity is up to you. Instead of chaining so many stitches to form a ring, you simple create a magic circle.

Thank you so much Mikey for making my life so much easier.I learned to crochet from my mother. She could crochet anything and make it more beautiful than the original.My mother passed away May 2011.She was crocheting right up to her surgery which she did not pull through from. She did not know about the Magic Circle and she would have been blown away if she would had known about it.Thank you for being a person I can now go to when I need to refresh or learn something new.I felt lost without her.

You are the BEST!!!! How much easier this is than all the other ways people teach it on youtube. I was getting so frustrated doing this technique, that I was about to give up until I watched your video.....I cant thank you enough for making a magic ring easy to do and now I can do it without wanting to throw my hook and yarn across the room. BTW I have been crocheting since January 1st of 2014, and thanks to you my items I make comes out very nice....most people are so surprised I have only been crocheting for less than 3 mths.

Thanks for this. I've been working on a puff circle granny square with 8 puff stitches making up the very center. The problem..I had a horrible time getting 8 puff stitches around the circle of 4 chain stitches. The magic circle is so much easier. No struggling to squeeze my puffs together to allow room for all 8. This way I can easily put the puffs into the magic circle and when completed just pull it shut...easy peasy!!!! Can't thank you enough.

once you make the circle and you make your stitches going into the middle of the circle and you pull the circle closed ...you work into the available stitches as normal to increase around and continue ... Cathy@ The Crochet Crowd :)

This is a great tutorial. Just one comment: you mention that when you have completed your single crochets and pulled the string to close the circle you can simply cut of the straggler. That straggler needs to be weaved in really well. It's really easy for it to come unraveled (especially if your project is a garment that will be worn and washed regularly), and if it does it can't be fixed. :)

Samantha Christensen I would split the yarn, weave one of the split sections in nearby and then tie a square knot with both of the split yarn threads on the back side (whichever Will be hidden) then twist them back together and weave the ends a little. I never feel alright just weaving. I have to knot it. I've had too many gifts given to me of hand knitted or crocheted scarves and blankets that have come undone.

there is a much easiter way, simply make a circle at the end he's calling the 'straggler'... pinch & hold the circle between thumb & finger, slip needle in middle of circle & pull yarn through & chain ... so simple...

You can probably do as many as you need that matches the pattern if you are chaining the starting from a chain to this method.

Hmm. See, I don't have the problem of not being able to close the circle with the regular method. I just pull the tail when I'm done. Maybe it's the way I make my slip knot, which is different from everyone else, too. (My mom taught me, eons ago, so it's old-school.) But more and more I see "start with magic circle" in instructions and, frankly, I have no idea how that would translate to a regular circle.

Jessica Brauman Did you ladies find out yet?
@jessicabrauman
@jessicabrauman 4 года назад
@@tracybuford9243 yes, and it seems kind of obvious now so I can kind of understand why people would gloss over it or forget to explain it. It is basically the same as adding stitches normally, but instead of inserting the hook through previous stitches, you insert the hook into the centre of the ring. Dummies.com has a great article called "how to crochet in the round". Though it uses the chain method rather than the magic ring, the basic principle is the same (both are just methods of creating a ring/loop into which you can add stitches).

It is impossible to follow along with this video because your hands are in the way and you don't say how your doing it at all. You seem like you are genuinely wanting to help people is why I say this but I am teaching myself to crochet and don't know anything except I am trying to make a basket. Also I have attempted to doing the 1st concept of the 4 chain but found the 2 and 6 in the 1st chain the most helpful for that and I think as I am typing this it could be the same thing as the magic circle as far as the yarn is in the same position at the end even though the start is more complicated and I just thought you should know I tried to follow along found the x and pulling through more helpful then others but can't figure out if you out the yarn over then the hook in the circle and pull it through or put in the circle then yarn over and out it through and some say to out the "straggler"as you say into the circle and do the single crochet on top and you say not to I am super frustrated have gotten as far as the circle then2 single crochet or double I'm confused on words I over think things I'm a disabled chemist trying to find something to do the doesn't require leaving my bed because I have pain I am not getting help for so even using the rest room is hard for me so as I sit here watching your video after 5 more unhelpful ones but helpful more so in other ways so they all are good and try which is what counts I guess my boyfriend is putting together a shelf for me to out next to the bed to keep all the yarn and stuff I've bought online currently stacked up in my floor I have a brain injury which makes me overshare and why I'm not able to make a video like I wanted to do kind of documenting my journey of learning watching these videos since I can't control where I stop and what I say but it's gauranteed to be alot regardless and I can't even remember my point in this however how do you get your phone to show just your hands like that as I wanted to do a video just one of my learning this not a channel as I am to fat for video and hate the way I sound though I'm seeing other people are worse and to bad to listen to though not you which I actually thought was odd since I haven't watched chrocet videos with guys doing it since the first time when my boyfriend heard and obviously gay guy telling me how to do stuff and I didn't listen to him long but wanted to prove to him not everyguy who chrocets is gay and wouldn't think even half but don't really know I don't think of that kid of thing but then my ex was a bartender at a gay bar so I've met a lot of openly gay guys in the 40s(mostly) I apologize be if any of this had offended you I typically do offend most people but I don't mean to I just cant stop however if you could please tell me how you get your phone to do that it what you sit it on I'd appreciate it however if you can't follow this and I get no reply I understand too it's annoying and biuced around if I knew how to send things privately I wouldn't have out all this on here sorry
