The Partridge & Orange is both a very easy fly to tie and a very effective trout fly. It originated in Yorkshire, England and it is part of a family of flies known as "Yorkshire Wets". These flies are typified by long, soft hackles and simple construction.

Thanks for sharing. For tying 4-strand floss I use a technique called "Walking the Bobbin" to keep the floss neat & tidy.

Thanks for this vid, Peter. I tied my first Partridge and Orange at home using this video at home. I also caught some bass on this same fly! Just a classic!

Guess what? The very first fish I caught on a fly that I tied? A bass on a Partridge and Orange! It was just a dink caught in a pond, but it bit the fly that I had tied. It was many years ago, but I still remember that fish as I'm sure you'll remember yours. Cheers

My first on a fly line was an olive bugger generously given to me by my fly fishing buddy, Kim. I am looking forward to giving her some of my Partridge and Orange. I'm readling Syl Nemes', "The Soft-Hackled Fly." :-)

Nemes is one of the best in the business when it comes to the soft hackled fly. Can't go wrong there.

The great debate with this fly is how many turns of hackle to lay down. Purists will insist on just one turn, a very sparse fly. Myself, I like two or two and one half turns. If you catch fish with either option, stick with it!
