If you’re only starting your fitness journey now and are watching this, you literally don’t know how lucky you are and how far ahead you are already to making progress by having such incredibly valuable content for free by this man 🐐 enough said.
I cannot stress to beginners enough the same point you made about "they're not judging you they respect you". I automatically respect anyone who's in the gym. It shows they have more drive to improve themselves than 90% of people do regardless of where they start. Doesn't matter if you're a recovering anorexic or cancer survivor and barely lifting 5 lbs, or 600 lbs and getting your first exercise in 10 years. You made the decision to try and change. +Respect
Thank you for this. Going to the gym consistently has been hard because I'm worried about other people judging me. Haven't been for a week because my knees are super inflamed (my gym has 3 floors and is kinda tiny) and I've been too embarrassed to use the elevator and be seen wearing a knee brace at 29. But, if I'm going to help my knees i need to lose weight. Gotta keep that goal in mind so i keep going. Edit: you guys are the best; i feel so supported ☺️
@@arielrose6361 Hey, don't let others put you down! I'm through similar things, kind of. Used to be in great shape in 2019 but after several disasters in my life over the next years and losing literally almost everything i had, including my girl during the pandemic, life was harsh. I stopped doing anything, and was just laying in bed all day, spending 3 days without eating, then eating a bunch of trash, etc. A few months back in 2022 i weighed over 130kg and was unable to do shit. Last month i finally managed and started going to the gym, and as someone with multiple mental issues such as severe depression, anxiety, panic syndrome, agoraphobia and a couple more, i can say that the ONLY thing you need to look at is at your treadmill's time and distance, and your form during exercise. There are days where i am unnable to leave my house because i just get locked in place and cry for half an hour before giving up, but there is always the next day. I can tell you that the moment you go through your front door, you have won, and as long as you never stop you will keep winning and getting further and further until your past struggles look like a joke to yourself. Yesterday i just hit 120kg (3 plates each side) on the leg press machine and i'm already happy to try 160kg next week. I know other people can push 200, 300kg, but i'm not those people. And if you're looking at nothing but yourself, you'll realize the gym is personal. Don't look at other people, and if they tell you you're fat or doing things wrong, all you have to say is "Well, thats the fucking reason that i'm here". I wish you the best of luck, and i apologize for the long comment, but if you read it, thank you, and stay strong!
Idk. The last few sets seem the hardest, since the muscles are fatigued. You muscles don't know the difference between pushups and bench, all they know is resistance is happening. Same with fresh lift and fatigued lifts. All the muscle knows is there's resistance. I only change up the routine for my own sake. There's so much to do, but if I do the same thing every time, it gets boring, even if I see results.
I’m 48 years old 5”8 120 lbs.. first gym workout last week.. there were massive guys 6” 4” just ripped to the max..I felt like a 10 year old weakling 😂 but I’m going to keep going because I want to the big muscles 💪
Make sure you’re taking in plenty of protein throughout the day. I’m 5’9 160 (runner) and I’m transitioning from eating only one large meal in the evening (lots of meat and veggies) to sliding in protein here and there throughout the day. I’m also a newbie and it’s the small steps that counts the most
The most difficult thing I find hard to explain for non gym goes or first timers, is that high you get leaving the gym and that feeling of accomplishment. Plus the compliments and being able to feel good about yourself. I'm like a parent who tries to convince all their friends to have a baby because its so great lol enjoyed the video!
ya , I do construction, so people think im crazy for hitting the gym after work. I tell them that even though we do hard work , im not hitting my tris or chest at all really at work. as a guy who was skinny growing up (5' 11" at 118 lbs in High School), and even though a part of me still feels like that guy with low self esteem, compliments push me to go to the gym even more and make my overall spirit happy.
@@Hellamoody once i consistently started going and saw results, i have started targeting muscles ppl usually neglect, lately its Traps and Calves, and watching them progress over months feels rewarding and great! stay consistent, i used stop after 3 months all the time, but i just now make myself go all the time
So many mistakes made when I started but it was a learning curve. Those mistakes costed me time and effort but it made me better at everything fitness related today. Thank God no more chicken and broccoli 😆
@@bloodbeats Search some RU-vidrs who do anabolic recipes so you get variety. I still eat chicken but mainly thighs unless it's a breast recipe with some type of coating but not every day or every meal.

One of the best things i did was get out of PF went to a better gym and saw some people deadlifting big weights, i went over to them and just said “ thats badass i hope to be able to lift heavy weight like yall” than created a friendship and they are the most supportive people and keep me from skipping the gym, what im trying to say is, socialize and talk to people, 98% are cool people and willing to help out, gets you comfortable in the gym and boost your ego. I started at 365 and am now at 280 and been at a plateau, but gaining muscle.
thats awesome, ive been really nervous to go to a gym like this but now that i think about it from all the experiences ive heard online ive never heard many ppl say they’ve had a bad experience. im excited to go soon
Notes for myself!! Workout: 6:09 legs - Squat ( 7:00 ): 5 x 5 back - Barbell/T-Bar Row ( 9:51): 3 x 8 Romanian deadlift (10:18 ): 2-3 x 8 biceps - Barbell curl (11:04): 2-3 x 8
my problem with this is those exercises are kinda complex to do with form and do in general. I can barely exercise with the lightest barbell. Maybe to do this after a month of building strength?
i have been training for 10 years and is pretty strong. Deadlifts 250 and is strong overall. But i have been drinking alot of beer and got a big belly that i want to lose to this summer. Should i be only running and focus 100% on that untill i see results or should i do 50 % running and 50% gymworkout? We are talking about losing 30lb fat here in the middle
@@novacrater3114 yes, i did not count calories and drank too much and now i need to get rid of the sloppy stomach och get thinner. This is the first week and i did 4 days of cardio and on friday i did gym and i feelt very weak : ). It was then i was wondering if i should just skipp it and do only cardio.
A Tip to beginners, when you start with your Full Body Workout, start with Legs then Back and the last Chest. This way when you are done you have tje most pump in your chest and some in your back. Also it feels like you are rewarding yourself with chest for training legs.
I liked the video for that in fact. Creatine is steroids we all know that. Also if ur a newbie u dont need Turkesterone and Should save it for later if ever.
My job used to keep me in shape (walking, lifting and climbing ladders 8 or 9 hours a day will do that) but now I sit down all day and my physical activity is like ten percent of what it used to be. I've been checking a lot of videos like this lately and this one really makes it seem realistically do-able. Thanks man!
"...then go out to eat every Wednesday and make it work." This realization was super important for me. At first, I wanted to stop all of that, but now I'm making room for it and just focusing on being flexible. Great advice.
Will honestly does not miss on any video. His videos aren't full of advertisements he literally just tells it like it is and what worked for him. His journey is very inspiring. Thank you i just binge watched most of your videos tonight i hope you continue to get new ideas for more.
Great job!!!! Get to the gym-believe me, 99%of the people there are focused on their own workouts. And don't be afraid to ask someone a question. Like Will said, EVERYONE there was a beginner at some point. Good luck!
Everyone in the gym has respect for everyone getting after the grind💪🏻 you’ll make some friends if you keep going! Also there’s very few douchebags but you just have to laugh and smile that they are so insecure that they have to try to act like an alpha in the gym
You were the last bit of motivation that I needed to set my ass on the gym, it's been almost 3 months and I'm loving it! Depression is non existent, work stress is being relieved and self-esteem is going up. Thank you so much for the amazing content
Its neverr about being motivated to be in the gym its about the dicipline, motivation is not consistant but discipline is at the same level all the time find a reason and stick to it think every gym session is another brick to the house slow process but in the end we will all make it.
When you feel lost sometimes just go back to basics. Love how you mention that everyone is different and that from one person to another it is not the same, but a good foundation will help everyone. Thanks Will!
if i feel lost at the gym, I will do some basics, I always tell myself to at LEAST do three sets of whatever im doing, while doing that I can mentally figure out and adjust my routine.
I’ve been training for about 4 months now and your channel has been a life saver for me. In a number or ways. I had been wanting to get into it for a long time, but your videos really pushed me to get started and I haven’t looked back since. I hope you know how many people you have helped with the content you put out. Thanks will. You the man.
This is super useful as somebody who’s started the gym specifically to gain weight healthily after ending up around 100lbs from losing weight when I was sick. I’m very weak and unfit but watching videos like this have helped immensely with keeping a positive healthy mindset.
currently have 2 friends starting fitness "under my wing" this video is bassicly what I keep telling them. It's not that complicated and it doesn't have to be perfect but it has to be fun
Love your vids my man, only thing I would like to interject is that DISCIPLINE is far more important than motivation, your motivations will come and go, it is your DISCIPLINE that will keep you putting in the work that you were motivated for initially.
This is a great restart. Recently graduated from Ranger School with very low T, a shattered ankle, and some pinched nerves along with normal tightness and lack of muscle. Basically needing to restart my own baseline and this is very helpful.
I think its a good thing to know that people at the gym are all there for themselves like you are. They aren't judging you! But 90% are very friendly so if you need help you should ask many people will be more then willing to help.
so true, ive had coworkers think that gym goers are constantly judging everyone and are condescending to those who cant lift like them (sometimes they think I might be like that)...Im like 'na man, gym people are the nicest people if you have a chance to talk to anyone, the media presents it like 'Bro Dudes' (there is always someone like that, but thats such a small percentage), we want the best version of ourselves we can get and are excited to help people wanting the same goal'
I got into lifting around 2015, every year since then has been trial and error. Alot me being inconsistent with my lifts and poor diet. Fast forward to 2019 when I discovered your channel, I started getting into my nutrition alot more then covid happened and I ballooned to almost 300 lbs. Its 2022, im 5'3 at 269lbs. I've been following your tips and tricks along with my workout plan, man you have helped me move forward and make the process more exciting.
hey ik this vid is a bit older but i just joined the gym this week and did this workout today for the first time and i swear to god i’ve never felt such a muscel soreness just 12h afterwards i love it! i’ll try to keep up to that plan doing it every 3 days or so but thanks a lot for that video mate!
I started out March weighing 268lbs. Its now August 28th and I'm down to 248lbs. This is the channel that actually got me excited about going to the gym, especially to try out the squat rack. I did my first set of squats yesterday and........holy shit, my thighs hurt. I knew it would be uncomfy but god damn 😂
good fuckin work! I’m currently around 275 down from about 310 during the pandemic. Mental health improvements change my eating and led to that but I’m stable at 275 now so it’s time to focus up on eating and get started lifting. Keep it up!
thanks for this video. this really opened my eyes on how obsessive i’ve been over fitness. your videos make me realize how simple fitness really is and how fun it can actually be. again, thank you so much for helping me out
This was jig for me, I was a macro obsessed teenager who skipped meals with the family and weighed out every single thing I ate and things like MyFitnessPal became more of a hindrance than a tool and worked out 6 times a week. I fell off once I didn’t have the schedule of a high schooler and it’s been a long climb back. Keeping it simple keeps it sustainable and that’s more important than almost anything else.
Been lifting for many years and couldn't agree more with all of this. Also form is so important as you can get injured from slight mess ups in form on some exercises. You're doing a great thing for yourself just by watching Will :)
I really love and appreciate your message about bringing balance into fitness and making it a part of your life rather than taking precedence over it. I definitely experienced going overboard getting into fitness, and I wish I had seen this video back then. Peace and love, man. Keep it up. - Your fellow Will
It's so cool that you offer up your fitness wisdom for beginners in a no bs, respectful way. It's so common to see fitness influencers either have a paid program that they shove in your face, or the advice is just garbage.
Two questions. 1. I’m overweight with a belly. Should I add cardio after each workout? If so how much? 2. How should I stagger the weights? 5lb up each set or each workout? Thank you. I wanna change my life for my kids!! I love this channel.
I can relate so much to this as a 16 year old with good information about muscle growth and fat losing process. When i began working out when 14 I remember eating more than usual and was gaining until 15 where i only reduced the food amount but didn’t calculate calories and now when i am 16 and few months old I am happily calculating every single calorie and losing weight alongside with growing sufficient amount of muscle. Its an annoying learning process but it rewards you patience.
I've been going to the gym for 5 months now... Seeing the results is very rewarding, I'm so happy. Love you Will, your videos are like garlic. I like garlic :)

Hey everyone. Figured I'd drop by for an update after using this to start. Saw this video when it dropped, and it caught me at the literal perfect timing. Everything he shared is more or less what I followed, including the "intro workout plan." I've yet to use a pre-workout, however, I have been on Whey & Creatine since day 1. Starting: 33 years old, 5'9", 343lbs, ~41% BMI Ending: 35 years old, 5'9", 170lbs, ~9% BMI Obviously, I have grown from the original workout plan, but I still take the whey and creatine daily. My biggest issue when starting was figuring out where to go from the original workout plan. I used it for my initial ~3 months. I didn't break away from it until I started wanting bigger lats. I wanted to make Bruce Lee proud, yah know? So, I added exercises for my lats, and then figured out how to build out from there (e.g. oh, my lats will get bigger if I build this other muscle with them). Something that helped me immensely, and that I don't believe he mentions, is rest. GOOD REST. This especially helped as I added more workout days in the early stages. Also, don't be afraid to spend the extra time getting your form down. You want to make sure you're avoiding potential injury, and it's harder to correct difficult form after doing it for a bit. I understand wanting to be in-shape ASAP, but keep in mind it (probably) took you years to gain all of the weight. You aren't going to lose it all in a couple of weeks. That said, if you're genuinely consistent with it, getting your ideal body doesn't take nearly as long as you think, but to maintain it is going to be a lifelong commitment. But man... I promise you that commitment is worth making. I have never felt better in my life. I have never been happier. It was worth every single sacrifice and painful moment. Now my only regret is not getting into fitness in my 20s like I should've. My life would look dramatically different if I had. Good luck!
When I was getting used to going to the gym, I approached it in very small steps; the first day I literally just sat in the locker room for a few minutes, then the next day I changed to training clothes and walked around in the gym for a while, and then I started working out the day after that. I am a firm believer in this kind of gradual exposure, and it works great for me.
@@rikkTV yep, that’s nothing to do with the weight loss tho, I have pretty good height genetics, like my cousins 6’10 and my uncles are all 6’4+ but maybe the exercise helped be grow 🤷♂️
Unrelated to this video but you inspired me to do more steps every day. It might not be much but I try to do at least 15k steps on work days and 10k steps on my days off. I even made going for a walk after a meal part of my daily routine and it makes me feel more relaxed so I wanted to thank you for motivating me to become more active during the day even without going to the gym so often.
Started working out 6 months ago and thank God that I found will on RU-vid. The amount of stuff I learned and keep learning from him is insane. Keep it up will
4.5 weeks from a skinny guy (21 6ft3”) added 10lbs in size and visually reduced my fat % , started just like this video shows and its working. Just hit 197lbs from my starting weight of 187lbs
Doubt you’ll see this but you inspired me to get over my fear, stop working out at home and join the gym up the street from me. I’ve started your full body compound routine 3x a week and am loving it thus far. Thanks for being a positive influence, dude.
I remember when I first started I would take whey protein in the day and casein at night along with my BCAA’s. This video was even more motivation because it reminded me of how far I’ve come so thank you!
I would also recommend as a beginner going light on the weights and focus on form. I injured myself numerous times as a noob for going heavier than I could go with good form.
Thats what me and my workout gym friends always say when we workout together, form for sure (my squat form tends to want to get out of line, form is on my mind the entire time when I do them)
@@bud993 It dependsz I’d recommend whatever weight you can do in perfect form for 13-15 reps where the 15th rep is close to failure. If that’s 45lbs (the weight of the bar) then that’s what you start with.
I think wat is the most overseen for beginners is. Start light. Really light. The first weeks gains are so hight just because you are not used to it anyway. But what is worse start hight and get sore on day 3 4 5 6 and then you are set back mentaly. You need to build up the mussles that stabilize first and the chances are hight yours are so weak thst overusing them can hurt you really bad. Its not a sprint 2 weeks slower start dont set you back for the rest of you life. But you build uo confedence
I would actually replace or superset the barbell curl with a skullcrusher, the long head of the triceps doesn't get much work from the bench press, maybe still a little bit but it's the biggest muscle in your arm so you need to hammer it. Very good advice still, I regret so much that I didn't start like that too.
I love how you emphasized that we should still enjoy time with friends, go out and try to make it work. This is something I avoided in the very beginning treating it very strictly. But now I understand that to make this a lifelong journey I should still incorporate such occasions and try to make it work
I have trained for almost 30 years and have never done pre workout. Personally I recommend that route. You do not want your energy becoming dependent on chemicals because that dependence will only worsen over time.
@@ammarjunaidabbasi9555 Because you will be really pumped and hyped up. You will feel like you could push away the earth and therefore hit a lot of pr's.

I just got into bodybuilding a few weeks ago, age 40 after years of running and doing Crossfit. I've been doing exactly what this video says to do and it feels good to know I'm starting on the right path.
Do you still include anything from CrossFit? I know a lot of people make fun of it, but from what I’ve seen, if done right, it’s an incredibly healthy and competitive thing to include.
@@josiahjaacobson754 No, it's purely lifting for body building now. Crossfit was fantastic and suited me for years but you have to be highly motivated to keep at it. It's high intensity so I'm enjoying slowing down and doing lifts in my own time instead of to a timer.

Great advice man! I wish more influencers in the fitness industry were as honest and forthright as you are and I wish I had your videos to learn from when I started working out. Thank you for all you do 👍
If I could start over I would do everything you mentioned on here. Would of got where I am allot faster. Only thing I would of added was the importance of proper form because the gym is useless if your unable to go due to injury.
as someone who is obsessed with going to the gym nearly everyday, i have been strict with myself to keep proper form, knowing i cant go to the gym due to an injury would really bum me out. If something feels a little off while working out, I wont risk it and avoid that specific workout or even that muscle altogether

I wish I see these kind of video before I went into my fitness journey 3years ago. I spent the first 2 year doing bad routine , very bad diet , bad training with relatively no good volume. Only since the past year I been noticing some progress
"I stopped doing anything above 10 reps even before I got into lifting." This dude. 😂 Great video btw. I really appreciate creators like you and Greg helping me as I've been beginning my fitness journey in the last few months. Don't want to waste my newbie gains.

Thank you for the great info. For all of those who think they are too old to start in the gym, I'm 60 and just started going twice a week about a month ago. Even in that short time, I'm seeing (imagining?) some minor results and I'm feeling better than I have in a very long time.
I grew up liking leg days. My legs are always naturally stronger, so it was kinda the easier day. The day I got to see bigger weight put on the lift. Felt good.

Leg days will actually become your favourite day once your body aclimates to it. I feel like people dont like it because their legs kill for like a week after and it turns them off to it. Once the soreness isnt as apparent its the best
I like everything he said, although for me I’m a new lifter and I would like to add cardio. As many things like the military and police academy run a lot. I want to do both in my life time. And am training for boot camp.

Hey Will! Since Ontario is back in a partial (soon to be full) lockdown again, can you do a video of some at-home gym workouts with little-to-no equipment pretty please?
My motivation is the gym is my therapy and it makes me feel amazing physically and mentally , ive always been high strung so it exhausts me for better sleep and its my chosen social interaction mostly because its people I have a few things in common with .
I haven't exercised in 5 years. Let weed, alcohol, and depression ruin my body. I could never lift that much I was more of a runner I did a half marathon at 20 but always lifted weights. I was never that good at the bench press. Now I'm 27 and finally turning my life around. Did calisthenics work out this morning and could barely do 5 pushups in a row cause the goal was reps of ten. I'VE HAVE FALLEN. I felt great after though and I know this is just the first step and that's the most important step. Trying not to be hard on myself, that I'm starting over on my fitness journey. That'll I'll get there but fuck man I felt pathetic doing them but proud that I'm taking the first step to get back in shape. Let's keep going but not be hard on ourselves. I know I probably weigh about 140-150 been in this range ever since I've stopped working out. I'll add updates as I progress. Good luck to everyone.
