Video is misleading, as it's explaining the benefits of full ECC, and then suggesting that on-die ECC is the same. All DDR5 got on-die ECC to make them not full of errors as it's denser and higher speeds then DDR4. It does not correct errors between the CPU and the RAM, only errors that occur on the ram sick. With full ECC the CPU is usually able to detect 2-bit errors and correct 1-bit errors, with on-die ECC the CPU doesn't know if there are any problems in the data it receives. TLDR; Consumers will not have full ECC like in server builds.

I have been using nothing but workstations for going on 2 decades. ECC memory computers almost never crash. I thought it was Apple but in reality, it was the workstation CPU and RAM.

If the EU can legally force Apple to switch to USB-C. Why can’t we force manufacturers to make ecc a legal standard?

DDR5 is not full ECC. You do not _benefit_ from ECC with DDR5! It's just for internal error correction on the module, but errors on the communication bus between the CPU and the RAM can't be detected. Saying "you benefit from ECC with DD5" is the same thing as saying "you benefit from ECC with an SSD drive". Because SSDs use Error Correction Code internally too. But in both cases, your CPU, and your OS will know nothing about it.

DDR5 uses On-Die ECC, which is not the same as ECC. On-Die ECC detects flipped bits, but it can't restore them. However, On-Die ECC is better than nothing, when it comes to error checking.

ECC memory feature do help in a way - and kinda necessary for RAM memory sticks more than 32 GB in capacity as it reduces the chance of CPU wigging out whenever there's a problem with RAM. And I already decided to go with server ECC DDR4 memory sticks with Ryzen Threadripper workstation even when playing games on it (I kinda wanted ECC memory features especially for disk to RAM caching preload on Linux OS).

The video does a great job explaining the basics of ECC memory and why it’s crucial for servers and big data centers. However, there’s a bit of confusion around DDR5’s on-die ECC. It’s true that DDR5 has on-die ECC to handle internal errors due to higher speeds and density, but it’s not the same as full ECC used in servers. On-die ECC helps with stability within the RAM chip, but it doesn’t correct errors in the data transfer between RAM and the CPU. For us average users, this means we get a bit more reliability, but not the full error correction benefits that server ECC provides. Still, any improvement is better than none, right?

DDR5 is not real ECC.

I have to ask.....Why does your audio have a real obvious treble pop that is freaking out my speakers??? I can not stress enough this is the first time Ive come across this. Make its extremely unpalatable!!
