Really enjoyed this. You put a lot of effort into that sky, & it shows. Your methods are a bit different than mine (Tonalist/Expressionist) landscape artist, & it was interesting to watch how you 🎨. Ty for sharing! If I had any suggestions, they would be to list your colors & mediums, particularly for the folks new to this. I actually watched to see how you’d achieve that sky, & what colors you used for your small pond. I’ve painted long enough that I think I can figure it out. Also, there are fairly long occasional pauses that may make some viewer leave. I’d edit them out. I’d change your channels title from Fine Art, to include “Tonalism and Tonal Realism Landscape Oil Painting” ,as this will absolutely increase your traffic. There are too few good Tonalist Landscape oil paint artists on RU-vid. I know this bc I’ve looked through at least a thousand videos (was a research scientist, lol. Now I paint). Finally, I would change your banner to one of your Tonalist paintings bc THAT is much more representative of your style & people searching don’t have to guess. What you paint when your channel comes up . You know these younger generations glance at channels or videos only a few seconds at most, then move on, so you have to show what your content is right away. They’ll see it & click on it right away bc people interested in Tonalism Landscapes know them when they see them. One other thing, if I may. While it’s true shorter videos get more clicks, that is not true of painting tutorials. People want to watch & learn. I’ve found this to be true both in my observations, & from comments by viewers. I hope these tips help. You’re quite a good artist, & I like to see you get more viewers. I did definitely like seeing your palette, & the music was quite nice🙂. If you want, check out an artist named Stuart Davies. He’s a Tonalist artist who likes to focus on sky work. You might just have a look at his video list, & compare his short, sped up videos, vs his longer, full length tutorials regarding the views. I’ll becoming back to watch more. I’ve subscribed & shared your channel w/ a couple friends who also paint in the Tonalist style 🙂

Thank you very much, that's very kind. I put the name of the paints near the start of the video, on this video they start at: 1:41. As for your other suggestions I will take them on board but unfortunately, for me, lol, i have already made a fair amount of videos uploaded and sitting ready to be published on specific dates, But from now on editing the videos, I will take your suggestions into account. it just might be a while before you notice the changes.

mineral spirits, is that the same as white spitits ? great videos. can i ask is gamblin solvent free gel the same as you use, and what paints. Thanks again

Yes mineral spirits is the same as white sprits. The Gamblin is just the ordinary medium, I use a variety of different brands, normally cheapest paints as under painting, and the more expensive paints to finish it of. That way the bulk of the paint you use is cheap but it is finished with the more expensive ones. The brands don't really matter to me.

This has been reaIly good as I’m just starting out. 2 questions would be ogle great help. How do you make your wash? And how yo do you achieve the light source (ie the sun)? Many thanks
@allendixon

The wash is made with transparent oxide red and mineral spirits. as the for the light source it is a mixture of Cad, yellow, cad red, Trans oxide red an mostly titanium white...to give you a figure, I would say. 5 percent in colours split equally and 95 percent white. And if I wasn't happy with the luminosity i would wait until it's dry and glaze another coat of white over it. i have some other videos where I narrate the process. if you'd be interested in them they are on my channel.
