I just got this begonia a few weeks ago and it's giving me the most beautiful leaves! When the new leaves come in they're so fuzzy and cute. Great video!

Love your video, very simple instructions to follow!! I'm curious, do the cuttings not need to callus/dry a little before going into soil? Do you water it, or juts mist the soil in the beginning?

Good tips. I love my black velvet begonia but its become long and gangly.. I would never have known i could propogate from the leaves! Thanks! ...Since tried your instruction and have about 10 leaves emerging from the pot. I see you also used only one leaf as I used 5. I'll try that too

totally, agree on plant and SA (S. Africa) one of my fav places! I dont have luck in begonia; but got inspired by summer rayne oaks and got myself a cheapie begonia rex jive (which is doing ok as in I have not kill it yet) a few months ago. For me the red begonias were like the most easy ones to propagate,I literally have them all over my house.I come across this same issue of them requiring a haircut always like every single week. Would love to get these black velvet ones into my collection.Another plant added to my wishlist.😊

Thanks Sean for this vid. Confirming that the Black Velvet begonia can thrive in our warm tropical lowland climate. I've long suspected that although they're tropical plants most begonias prefer the cooler high altitude weather and struggle in the warm humid lowlands. Well, at least now we know we can at least grow one type of begonia well in the lowlands 😂. I wonder, do you collect any of the hard leaf sansevierias...kirkii, lavranos etc? If you do, hope to see a future vid on them. They're fascinating plants from Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania. Very slow growing, almost like a wood carving more than a living plant hahaha.

How long does it take for the begonias to root? I cut my maculata approximately a week ago, and put it in water but so far there’s no root.

Well I have a question. I knocked off a leaf from my begonia with a fair amount of stem. So my thinking was to put it in water a see if it grows roots. To my surprise it did. Next let’s put it in potting mix and see if I can get another plant. Well it did start growing more leaves, but it’s growing off the other leaf not in the soil. So my dilemma is do I take it out of the soil cut the stem down and see if it will grow from the soil? Don’t want to harm my cute little plant. Just imagine several leaves growing off the main leaf....what to do, what to do.

Is this same with black mamba? And do you have update to this? 😅

I put the leaves cut in V’s with a vein, in a Tupperware with moist spagh moss. Put the lid on and forget about it for a month. Many new plants will sprout. Very easy and it works for me. Just another method you could try.❤️✌🏻🌱🌿🍃

Tjee, you can even put a leave of a geranium on the ground and it will root were ever you made a cut in it...

Its very difficult to know if its moist or wet :(
