I am 80 years now , I have grown up listening to Akhtari bai and then Begum on megaphone still on RU-vid! My grandchildren may sing it someday to theirs (I hope) Timeless!
Am 85 and feel privileged to have listened to this immortal legend live in Kolkata a few times as a teenager and the impression created has, like wine, matured with age!
I have sung her ghazals all my life and really feel honoured when people remember her through my renditions. I humbly yjank AllaHtalla, for having found such a wonder in our lives! Thank you aapko bhi Shaukeentabiyat Sahab!
Jayati Bhattacharya I’d like to hear your singing of her ghazals. You should upload to RU-vid and post a link. People can listen to your recordings and give feedback.
Difficult to decide whether it is poetry of Shkeel or rendition by unbeatable Begum Akhtar where the soul of the song is. I think it is just the perfect combination.
When I listen BEGUM AKHTAR,, I just go to the era when this special lady sings on the stage keeping a Shama in front of her and people who can understand and enjoy sit spellbound in front of her without missing a word....those days were golden days and flew away with this golden sound....! Tera zaam lene ko koi aur haanth badha na le !!!

Hamari oqat hee kia hy. Zindagi kia hy?
There is so much pain in her voice. It can take you back to the darkest moment of your life so you can shed the tears of blood from your lamented heart.
واااااہ واااااہ واااااہ الفاظ نہیں ہیں تعریف کے لئے ۔۔۔۔۔۔کتنا درد ہے بیگم اختر کی آواز میں ۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔ Our Sweetest Song are those who tell us Saddest Stories.
I am in 10th standard and 14 years old and I love her Ghazals. But I have listened to just 2 both are my favourite 'woh jo humme tumme qarar tha' and this ghazal 'Mere Humnafas mere humnawa' Great mesmerizing voice of her ❤️❤️
I was in my twenties when I heard this voice back in 1977 in Palika Bazar shopping of New Delhi. I bought her cassette and was listening to it day n night. I was so attracted to her voice withought knowing a word of urdu that time. Thanks to youtube which helps to make me happy by making possible to play Begum Akhtar's gazals whenever I wish.
The soul leaps out of the body , experiencing both the pain And the joy of love .The poetry soul piercing , the voice divine , the tune tugging at the heart strings .Salute to all responsible for this music
Appropriately worded and true appreciation of this marvellous creation. Heartfelt indeed. Draws humanity together at a time of hate and divisiveness engulfing the world. Nothing is bigger and nobler than humanity.
Shakeel Badayuni was known by most people for his film lyrics, but in fact he was a poet of a supreme caliber and one of the fines modern Urdu poets. Ah! what heart piercing lines are these. Amazingly worded sentiments.
Truly .... this is rendered by many but this rendition takes your breath away .... even after 35 years when I heard it on stage in live concert of Begum sahebaa !!!
OMG! I have grown up to my dad listening to this ghazal umpteen times. Now I understand why it is so addictive. The sheer profundity of the lyrics, the touching tune and the soulful rendition by the Queen herself all go into making it immortal. Gone is that Golden Era and shame on the current one. It clearly lacks that magical touch of yesteryears
Thanks to RU-vid for such great collection it was time I used to take cassette in those days after long wait and still difficult to get here we get it so easily it's paradise ghazals
the veteran singer Mrs. Beghum Akhtar was a dedicated soul to the music and no parallel to her then or up to now. a singer pleases the hearts of all humanity. sound is one of the divine systems manifested on the earth by its creator the Most High. so nothing can be so pleasant when the sound is controlled and created to be a tune. it is only glorifying the divinity it its own language. people dedicated to this fine art, are very less on this earth at any point of time but they are born as a gift to this earth. they will be listened forever.

Years go by but the intensity with which this ghazal touches heart and soul remains the same.....! There can never be another female singer as versatile as Begam has been. Salute to the great singing and the great singer!
Humchildhood sebegum akhtarjikosunke bare hue. Samman se unko akhtari baivibolte the gunijon. Unki zindgi ak dukh vari kahanithi. Unkiruhu our swar se ohi ans hu ki bunde nikhar ke aati hai sabnamke tarha. Salam namaste uppamar rahe Kayamat tak.

She just got the magical voice and melody. Her singing created such an atmosphere of pains, it carries along with all. I firmly believe that no one can pause to listen this song as it offers such a soulful synchronizion of the lyrics, melody and signing, no one is above another. And she had exceptionallly presented this song. She is as of today unbeatable. Thank you mam to prepare our minds to incline towards such brilliant composition and soulful singing.
Ahhh whenever I listen to this ghazal it take me away from this world... A magical pure magic.... I even cant move my finger, i am totally in the control of begum akhtar.... Ahhhhhhhhhh
AHA AHA KYA BAAT HAI KYA ANDAZ HAI GANE KA MIND BLOWING TABLA AND THE SITAR. HUM AAP KE PER CHOOTE HAIN AUUR SALUTE KARTE HAI AISI AWAZ AUR AISE KHOOBSOORAT INSAN KO. INDIA IS PROUD OF BEGUM AKHTAR JI. SANJAY
Other greats have tried to sing this ghazal but have not been able to match the incomparable Begum Akhtar. Such poignant outpourings can only come from the depths of the heart to bring out such soulful music. PB Shelley had correctly said that "our sweetest songs are those that come from saddest thought".
One of the all time greats. Begum's rendition is deeply passionate and conveys the pathos with such penetrating emotions that eyes of the listener turns moist with lumps in the throat...such a great singer.
O uthey hain layke khumo-suboo , arey o Shakeel kahan hai tu , Tera jam layney ko buzm mein koi aur haath badha na dey"Opportunities come in life only once and if we are not quick enough to grab it someone else snatches it away .A true friend doesn't act as a wolf in sheep's clothing,he doesn't deprive his friend of what rightfully is his. .This beautiful ghazal by janab Shakeel Badayuni has been rendered so soulfully by that Queen among Ghazal singers ,the immortal ,inimitable Begum Akhtar!
This ghazal is da crux of all ghazals of begum altar what a beautiful voice with classical music i dont find words to comment but i say that urdu is fortunate in having such artists since amir khusro which hv contributed to internationlise this language long live urdu
Begum Akhtar ji's voice is divine!! Something makes her voice unique. I don't know what is that, but love her very much. I heard this ghazal many times before but this time Acquired within me!!
Commenting here so that after 100 years when people will listen to this all time master piece, without auto tone without music, real talent they will put a heart here nd remember n praise this legend
No words for her singing.... She is the one and only who brought real form of Gazal before the music world. The DP of this song reminded me those moments sometimes in late 60s or early 70s when as a studend was passing through class rooms of Bhatkhande Music College at Lucknow and suddenly in a room I saw an attractive graceful pink faced lady sitting on dias with the support of Gao-takia ( the cushion ) and a cigarette in her fingers , talking to some students .. I was told later that she was great Begum Akhtar... what a mesmerizing personality she was.... I still cherish those moments....
