It would cosr the owners more , but they could convert rhe 2 yo / 3 yo seasons to 3 yo / 4 yo. The horses would have time to develop their growth plates. Instead of pinhooking yearlings to 2 year olds it could be 2 year olds to 3 year olds. In the 1940's horses could race 200 times going 2 miles. Breeding for rarly maturity has made them too unsound.
@@alifewithhorses-meryllynn I agree, 100% I’ve been saying for years they shouldn’t be racing two year olds. I don’t think they even give the owners a option on racing as 2 year olds
@@rickcouches1022 I actually read something that starting horses at 2 builds dense and stronger bone. It was from a vet magazine, I’ll post the link once I find it,
The deep rooted criminal element in horse racing rearing it's ugly head . Who could trust such skullduggery. Sinister goings on tears the heart and soul out of the sport. When the racing public looses confidence in the sports integrity , where the rich get richer and the poor stay poor is a loosing game.
I just started to really learn handicapping, but with all these recent events, I'm quitting for now. I need hard evidence that something is changing to my satisfaction, and so far I haven't seen it. I don't even know what that would be, not being a horse expert, but I'll know it when I see it. I'll also formulate new or follow-up questions as reports come out, IF they come out.
Horse racing is cool, but the number of deaths need to go down, I think it would be reasonable to have deaths in single digits per year because I don't think we can get to zero. Ending racing would be bad because the people who own and care for these animals couldnt care and to have thousands of homeless horses suddenly would be bad. I dont get why everyone thinks that when horses die for greed its wrong but when others die for greed its fine.
Question: Would insurance have anything to do with this? I am very ignorant about this industry, but makes you wonder about this aspect and if it factors into the equation.
The reason people don't know about racing is the people who run racing do not explain or speak up for the sport. In the U.K the BHA have not cared what the public think they think they are untouchable. I'm a racing fan and it's time to wake up and realise 7 horses dying at Churchill and 3 at Aintree is uncomfortable for anyone who cares about horses. We have protesters on courses now causing mayhem and getting huge publicity. U will too soon. Are we doing all we can for these horses safety and jockeys. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Speed is what is wanted now not stamina. The price is broken legs heart attacks and death. We can never make it 100% but we need to start looking at every aspect or the protesters win and racing will be gone
@@suemaher5282 I have been in the thoroughbred industry, my whole life and I’ve done everything from starting out cleaning stalls to grooming, exercising horses in the morning, breaking babies, and a training horses for owners. I am all for the horses well-being of the horses. We have put many rules and regulations and banned many medication we were able to use. And vet checks before races 99% of the people who owned and train horses eat before their horses do in respect to Churchhill downs I believe a lot of it has to do with track conditions. Owners don’t spend all that money horse take a chance on them breaking down. I also seen a comment about the insurance on horses 99% race horses horses are not insured. I also believe they could take a step and make all the standards for medication across the board the same for every state. Because right now a lot of states have different guidelines.
@@rickcouches1022 The reason I replied to u was I guessed u understood racing. I know that the majority of trainers and owners do the best for their horses I've worked and had horses all my life. That's why it's important we comment. We know that there are a few trainers who are not so honest and that the majority live for their horses as u do. U know too a horse can injure itself just being turned out in the paddock as any vet will tell u. I love my racing but I worry these protesters will win because the people who run racing don't seem to care and its time for them to realise in 2023 they need to be open and honest and start cleaning up the bad trainers and show the non racing informed that they are doing everything they can for the welfare of the horse.
@@suemaher5282 I agree with that. Everybody who works on the the back side of the tracks knows who they are. But it’s like everything else in life you have to catch them. I do know when they do they pay the price for it. They don’t let the public know about it most of the time to keep the protesters away, unless it a big name trainer in the spot lite. It’s like you said horses are going to hurt them selves even though it’s out in the pasture.
@@suemaher5282 I know this is not just a problem in the US but worldwide. Things can be done to fix it, but there must be transparency and accountability. In the US when trainers get suspended due to drugging their horses for example, they are only off the track for a couple weeks and then they are right back. Thanks for watching and your thoughts!😊🐴
