Really great to see the referees side of the game. Sometimes you can forget that referees can have a bad game too. It’s good to see the process behind every decision made. I agree Keep these videos coming
As an amateur referee myself, always great to watch videos like this. It affirms my belief that players just want to know what's going on, what you've seen, why you've come to the decision you have. "high studs, down the leg, excessive force, it's a red mate" They can't really argue with that. I wish there were more of these type of videos, hopefully I'll be in one in a few years or so 😁
Tough game for this ref at the top level in Australia. Seemed the incorrect penalty decision affected his confidence and he didn’t call the red card initially when he knew it was red all along. Kudos to FFA for making this insightful video!
Great vid, I love the advice from the assistent refs to not let the players chase him heading over to the on field pen review. I hate when players try to intimidate refs.
Looks like it was a bad night for him but from an uneducated standpoint, compared to the Gillett video that Fox put up a while back this referee didn't seem to have a great command of the game or the players. Lost confidence early and seemed to go downhill from there
Never easy job but two critical decisions both overturned. It gets you to think it is the VAR refereeing not the refs any more. Referees at lower divisions will think to themselves why they cannot be there if the FIFA gets all big decisions wrong. This comment comes from a ref himself. You can see his guilt at the end of the game in the dressing room. He knows he has screwed big time. Especially that this game he is on the documentary he knows that all refs in his country will watch and start asking why this ref has the coveted FIFA badge but not me.. hope he recovers but first impression is not that good. Worst is that if he were in Spanish, Greek or Serbian League, they would eat him alive. He doesn’t display much confidence.
Poor comment IMO. He is an excellent referee and well respected by the players. Has self awareness in abundance and a clear desire to get better with every outing. Bigger things coming for Alex I would suggest.
