We are thrilled to interview Kiff McManus about his amazing work on 'Boiling Point'.
Simon Bysshe from URSA Straps asks Kiff how he planned out and delivered such a powerful sound track for this incredibly complex single take performance.
We get into the nitty gritty and ask about microphone positions, frequency allocations, equipment requirements, getting the best from the boom & some great advice for students starting out in the industry.
Boiling Point won 'Best Sound' at the 2021 BIFA Awards in 2021, shared with 'Kiff McManus, Rob Entwistle & James Drake'
Kiff McManus has worked on some of the most challenging unscripted dramas imaginable. For over 15 years & 80 episodes Kiff worked on Top Gear along with sound recordists Russ Edwards & Rob Entwistle. When Jeremy Clarkson & co departed the show Kiff joined them on 'The Grand Tour' & more recently 'Clarkson's Farm.'
Kiff has a well deserved reputation for delivering great sound on jobs that most recordists would run a mile from, these projects include 'SAS - Who Dares Wins' & 'The Island with Bear Grylls' - both shows featuring untouchable contributors who regularly plunge into water, hack through jungles & survive in some of the most inhospitable environments!
Thank you so much to Kiff and his incredible team for providing us with so many great stories from this shoot and lots of stills which we have been able to feature in this video.
