To be honest I like this game. Not my favorite of the franchise but It has a place on my heart. The 3D was pretty cool at that time and it was one of first videogames that I had on PC. Thank god they go back to the old formula on MK9
I went to a summer day camp that was located behind a game arcade/miniature golf course, and I use to sneak over to the arcade just to play MK4. Good times.

I was 15 when I was playing MK4 so far I thought it was the best 3D MK game to debut and to intoduce me the most bad ass character Quan Chi. Way before Kratos
MK4 blew my mind back in the day. 3D graphics, more blood, more gore, awesome fatalities, and it cleaned up the game in terms of reducing the roster a bit and getting rid of the stupid animalities/brutalities/babalities/etc. Personally, the best version of MK4 was on PS1 due to CGI endings.
4 was the start of copy cat characters and established movesets getting butchered. But it did fix the terrible AI, the soundtrack was great and the whole thing had a much more darker, fitting atmosphere.
This was the first time I've ever heard of mortal kombat as a kid. I saw my older brother playing as one the characters. Dont which one but, I remember that one the guys blew one of their heads off and I was just blown away(lol). Mk 4 is what got me into the mortal kombat franchise
MK4 is still the best MK for me becouse at it came out on Playstation 1998 i was 14y old and i spend so much time with playing this great 3D game :-) i loved it realy to beat all my friends :D:D
I used to play this game all the time as a kid and I definitely enjoyed the gameplay and cutscenes! "Mortal Kombat is about change!" *Money rains down* I get it 😁😂👏👏👏👏👏👏
i was never a fan of mortal kombat but i played mk4 with my friend for hours and hours on end... it was this game that you weren't sure if it was done right or not so much, but we just got addicted to it with all it's flaws and absurdities, which oftentimes made us crack up really hard... and whenever you got pissed at yourself, your co-player or the game, you'd get over it in a second and go back to playing, that's what this game was for me.
Me and some friends were lucky enough to test this on the mk4 road your at frankies fun park in SC !!! While I was not happy about the change to 3D, it was cool to play something before it was released !!! Shout out to Klum and DBO who were with me on that amazing day !!!
MK 4 is awesome, such an underrated game. First fighter to go places other franchises would be too scared to go, N64 version still the best version of home port of MK 4 by far.
Why does Midway think every little thing they do is "revolutionary" or "amazing". Basically every time they comment in this video it's like "We released a game nobody has ever done that before it's revolutionary and better than anything ever done in history ever"

mk4 was so important that it reinvented fighting games on first 3D consoles, ed boon actually didnt want to continue the mk series. So you should appreate what this game did cause without it we wouldnt have MK 9
I think many fans disliked MK4 for the same reason many fans disliked MK3 : huge change in direction compared to the previous titles. MK1 and MK2 had pretty much the same type of feel and fighting mechanics (although MK2 was much faster and smoother)...then MK3 comes out, and now suddenly there's this new combo system, where you have to memorize all these individual button combinations for each fighter (which was indeed very tedious!)...the "Run" feature...introducing cyborgs into the mix...all sorts of changes - many of which were not received very well by many hardcore fans of the first 2 games. Then around the time Ultimate MK3 and MK Trilogy came out, many of those fans had actually began embracing the newer look and feel of MK - although many others had long since abandoned the franchise. Then a couple years afterwards...BOOM...we get MK4. And once again, the look, feel, and mechanics undergo a complete overhaul. And once again - MK fans were divided. It really just comes down to the extreme changes that MK went through, every 2 - 3 games. Some people embrace change, others prefer familiarity, that's all.
1:10 What's crazy to me is that when Deadly Alliance came out I remember them going on about the advancement in tech allows them to create better characters models, yet(imo) MK4 had better and more realistic models(especially in the face). The characters all looked like plastic dolls in Deadly Alliance(the females looking the worst). Sub-Zero and Quan Chi had the best models in DA and looked like that's where the majority of the work went.
I feel like the guys who created Mortal Kombat (which was created in the '90s) were in such good moods, because Michael Jordan was winning championships for the Chicago Bulls.
mortal kombat as per ed boon was supposed to be just another regular old project. another game to put out. they never envisioned it becoming this big and having such a long shelf life. after MK 1 they wanted to make other games but their supervisor was the one that told them to drop everything and work on a sequel.
@@joeswanson733 Yes, NetherRealm Studios (before they were called that) wanted to purchase licensing for Star Wars and make a Star Wars fighting game, but the higher ups asked them to make a sequel to Mortal Kombat.
For a bunch of computer nerds they know how to charm people. Even making a crappy game look like the best. The Mortal KOmbat team is the best at advertisement.
The number of polygons was like the number of bits for the previous generation. I think olny after sega model 3 the arcade boards could really generate 1 million polygons with texture and shadows in real time.

The biggest mistake in MK’s games: Ever since MK4, the designers at Midway went with the same bland and generic 3D graphics as they used in their other failed fighting games like War Gods and Bio F.R.E.A.K.S., instead of upgrading and revolutionizing the live-action motion capture gameplays after Mortal Kombat 1, II & 3.
MK4 was awesome I dont know why too many people here say it kill the franchise. After that I didnt play Deadly Aliance Deception or Armageddon thoose were the ones I really hate
The biggest problem with MK4 is that the new characters introduced were extremely unintersting. Even the boss was a huge let down compared to Shao Kahn. Jarek was a Kano wannabe, Kai was forgetable at best and a bad Kung Lao replacement, Tanya a boring generic female warrior. Reiko, who? You mean the Noob Saibot reskinned? Also, only a handful of stages, like 8 or 9... and their look was very poor and lacking details, probably due to tech limitations.
I loved UMK3 and couldn't really get into MK4. The technology wasn't quite ready for a move to 3D, and to me MK4 looked uglier than the 2D MKs. Also, the character roster was pretty weak.
