I had the pleasure of meeting George Romero at a horror con. I gushed like a child and told him I’ve been a huge fan since Dawn of the Dead...What a gracious man he was. It really was an end of an era when he passed away. RIP George.
beezle1210 Agreed. He was a legend. I read his script for his version of resident evil and his original day of the dead script. Both would have been epic . But day of the dead was still awesome.
I met him at horror con too! His exact words were "say man, thanks for the praise! Want a cup of coffee? " Hell yeah I want your coffee George. His styrofoam cup sits on a mantle inside of my "theatre room" which is basically a second bedroom with the walls filled with horror memorabilia and posters and action figures. Because even though my physical shell is 36, I'm still 12. At least that's what my wife says lol 😂. Be well everyone!
This movie is peak Savini. It's ridiculous how much of an improvement it was over Dawn with convincing blood, more convincing rotten zombies, and animatronic work. Him, Dick Smith, and Rob Bottin are all 70s and 80s legends.
@@CALAdmin88 Even Savini himself admitted that the look of the zombies in Dawn were horrible. He said adding grey makeup to the actors' skins made them look blue or sometimes even green in certain scenes. Watching the movie again made me realise how right he was.
1 Original dawn 2 Day of 3 90s remake night. And its actually a toss up between 1 and 2 The scream when head being torn off changing pitch is absolute gold.
I’m sorry for your loss brother. I love this movie as well. My father introduced it to me when I was 4 I was born in 1990 so your comment really hit different for me hearing about your son passing since I feel my father will have to bury me also. May I ask how he passed ?
There will NEVER be the same magic George made with his writing, ideas, ability to accept others ideas, direction and class. Watching Dawn as an 11 yr old in 1984, I was forever changed and hooked on horror, especially zombies. RIP George, Joe Pilato, and Ralph Marrero.
I got to meet Lori Cardille, Robert Zdar & Joe Pilato in SD well over a decade ago at a convention. All 3 were among the most fan friendly actors ive ever had the pleasure of meeting. Lori is an absolute sweetheart. Sadly joe and robert are both gone but their film legacy lives on. May they RIP
The bullet headshot set up for the zombie actors was just incredible. A metal plate to protect the actor's head! Those exit blood gushes are amazingly real looking. Great job Tom and crew!
Everyone involved in this movie did an amazing job creating this classic. It's funny seeing Joe Pilato being so chill in this documentary when I'm so used to seeing him chew the scenery as Cpt. Rhodes.
Day of the Dead is an absolute masterpiece. Every time I watch it I see something new in the makeup and effects. Still to this day it has some of the most creative and amazing gore effects you'll ever see.
I disagree. I think Night of the Living Dead is the best. It’s the one that started my fear of zombies and kept me a fan since I watched it in the 70s. George and Tom are two legends. The first three are very good tho, but I’m a fan of all because I’m a fan of George. RIP😢
Thank you so much for loading this. I actually have this on the Anchor Bay VHS version from 1998 but can no longer watch it because my VHS player is broke. So cool to be able to watch it once again.
why was he a villain to you? he was a commander who found out his team protecting scientists were dying and being butchered and chopped up and fed to zombies.
@thenycestmc he sexual harasses the protagonist of the film, threatens to kill her, bullies everyone including his men, murders a scientist who wasn't "butchering" already dead specimens, murders another scientist impulsively, and uses physical violence to beat some sense into the helicopter pilots "jungle bunny" head. He's the villain
@frankvizen5480 it's not excusable but she's the lone female in a base full of men. those comments are sadly going to come. he wasn't bullying his men. he was commanding them. thats military hierchy. the racist comments were wrong of course but that was 80s shit from the 60s. and pay attention to all the men he mentioned died helping the scientists. he didn't murder an innocent one that scientist was part of the collective who got caught red handed butchering dead soldiers.
Growing up In Ann arbor, Michigan, on university of Michigan town, my older brother (R.I.P🙏🌹) He was the movie/ comic book , Kevin Smith meets Jack black kinda guy! He took me to see "Dawn of the dead" at lorch hall around Halloween 🎃 time. Perfect time for u of m film school to put on a movie 🎬 like this in 1982 or 1983 ish. Plus a " best zombie contest!" 🧟♂️ the person who won was a special effects guy and he came down the isle in the theater 🎥 and ripped his chest open as a zombie 🧟♀️ leaving his end trails everywhere 😅😅😅 he won$500!! Very cool, and if u came dressed Asa zombie 🧟♀️ 😀 you got half off admission! So I was hooked after, had to see ALLLLL of Mr. Romero's dead movies after. Including this!! Thanks for showing this, brought back a lot of wonderful memories!! 🎬🎥🧟♂️🧟♀️🙏🌹
George was the best. I’ve been a fan since I was 9. Tom Savini is amazing! He has a school teaching his techniques. I would love to attend just to meet him. My husband is Tom Savinis twin lol
I fell in love on my 10th Birthday when I watched Dawn of the Dead on Betamax... G.A.R. seems like such a nice fellow, he is sorely missed by me and a million others. x
Day of the Dead become my favorite zombie movie. It was like the more times i saw it the more times I absolutely loved it, just like Carpenters Prince of Darkness movie.
i remember when tom savini went on letterman and brought a lot of these awesome props from this movie...including the first zombie with the long tounge at the start of the video. good stuff.
Hey it hurts to know this was a lifetime ago. 1985. Actually this footage was probably 1984 production stuff. Not sure. Alot of these people have passed on since then. But not forgotten. No. Never.
The first minute of the video I'm thinking, man I miss 80's girls. Anyway, I guess most people know this if they are watching, 12:31 is a young Greg Nicotero, (walking dead fx among others). Bub the zombie was on an episode of Seinfeld as Elaine's boyfriend that had surgery (the junior mint episode). Day of the Dead man, a classic.
6:10 on the left of the screen. the worst zombie ever! he's the same dude who reached out and touched the golf cart in the actual movie. totally broke character to touch the set.
Excellent the only movie that ever scare me was George Classic was Night of the Living Dead I’m From New Jersey an I went to see it in the Winter An That time of year it gets real dark early so after the movie I had to walk home I was 12,yes it had a profound effect on me, till this day I’ve seen it over 50 or more times as a matter of fact I’m watching it tonight... Thank George A. Romero I just wish you had done one in Real 3D... Rest In Paradise Thank Again for all The Dead Films... Peace Mustafa
Wow… what a brilliant atmosphere. You know you’ve got yourself a passionate project when you’ve got people travelling over 200miles to feature in your Movie. Such a different time… not like today with all the woke censored garbage. No originality anymore… Romero’s Dead Trilogy are cinematic masterpieces❤️
